Study on the Characteristics of Hydride Heat Pump Using the Zr-based Laves Phase Alloys (Zr-based 합금을 이용한 hydride heat pump의 작동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to improve the power of hydride heat pump, prototype heat pump was constructed using $Zr_{0.95}Ti_{0.05}Cr_{0.9}Fe_{1.1}$-$Zr_{0.9}Ti_{0.1}Cr_{0.6}Fe_{1.4}$ which had very good hydrogenation properties. The power changed with operating parameter such as cycle time, air flow rate, and temperature of hot air was investigated. The power shows maximum value with cycle time. The power increased with air flow rate and temperature of hot air. The power of the heat pump was $65-72 Kcal/Kg-alloy{\cdot}h$ under optimum operating condition, which was superior to that the system using $LaNi_{0.9}Al_{0.3}-MmNi_{4.15}Al_{0.66}Fe_{0.2}$ alloy pairs.

Mineral Chemistry of Magnetite from the Hongcheon Carbonatite-Phoscorite Complex, Korea (홍천 카보나타이트-포스코라이트 복합체에서 산출되는 자철석의 광물화학)

  • Magnetite, a major constituent mineral of the Hongcheon carbonatite-phoscorite complex, was produced over three stages in each rock type and decreased in quantity toward the late stage. Electron microprobe analyses for magnetite revealed that Ti and V were detected in traces, but showed increasing tendency from early to late stage. On the contrary, Mg and Mn decreased distinctly, and it is the general differentiation trend of carbonatitic magma. Al also showed decreasing tendency in carbonatite and phoscorite, and Cr was mostly below detection limit except late phoscorite. In early stage, $Fe^{2+}$ was largely replaced by $Mg{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$, and $Fe^{3+}$ by $Al^{3+}$ in magnetite, but it has nearly pure composition in late stage. Tendency of increase in V and decrease in Mn toward late stage represents that magma differentiation progressed under the condition of decreasing oxygen fugacity. Low concentrations of Mg, Al, Cr and Ti, as well as the absence of olivine and phlogopite, suggest that the Hongcheon carbonatite-phoscorite complex was generated from depleted magma. Especially, lower concentrations of Mg in magnetite compared to other typical carbonatite-phoscorite complex, and abundant occurrence of Fe-carbonate minerals and quartz in late stage, suggest that magma differentiation of the Hongcheon carbonatite-phoscorite proceeded to the latest stage.

Properties of Nimonic 80A Alloy with Change in the Chemical Compositions and Heat Treatment Paths (화학조성 및 열처리경로 변화에 따른 Nimonic 80A 합금의 특성)

  • Properties of Ni-base superalloys of Nimonic 80A alloy system were investigated by the observation of microstructures, precipitates ana hardness as a function of the chemical compositions ana the paths of heat treatment. The higher hardness values showed, the higher Ti/Al ratio among high compositions of Cr and Co element. The lower (Ti+Al) and Fe contents decreased in the same Ti/Al ratio, the higher hardness values showed. This results are considered that coherent deformation was increased with increasing Ti/Al ratio. Hardness showed higher value when Cr contents was $18 wt\%$ less than $21wt\%Cr$. In $3.15 wt\%$Co alloy, $\gamma'$ phase was very fine as around 50nm and, its volume fraction and hardness showed the highest value by 2step-aging treatment.

Enhanced Mechanical Properties and Thermal Stability of CrAlN Coatings by Interlayer Deposition (중간층 증착에 의한 CrAlN 코팅의 기계적 물성 및 내열성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • 물리기상증착방법 (Physical vapor deposition)에 의하여 합성된 천이금속 질화물 박막은 경도, 내마모성 등 절삭공구의 성능을 향상시키며, Ti-Al-N, Ti-Zr-N, Zr-Al-N, Cr-Si-N 등의 3원계 경질 박막에 대한 연구가 지속적으로 이루어지고 있다. 이중에서도 CrAlN 코팅은 높은 경도, 낮은 표면 조도 등의 우수한 기계적 특성 이외에 고온에서 안정한 합금상 형성으로 인하여 우수한 내열성을 보유하여 공구 코팅으로의 적용 가능성이 크다. 그러나 최근 공구사용 환경의 가혹화로 인하여 코팅의 내마모성 및 내열성 등의 물성 향상을 통한 공구의 수명 향상이 필요시 되고 있으며, 코팅에 적합한 중간층을 합성함으로써 공구 코팅으로의 적용 가능성을 높이는 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 CrAlN 코팅의 물성을 향상시키기 위해 CrAlN 코팅과 WC-Co 6wt.% 모재 사이에 CrN, CrZrN, CrN/CrZrSiN 등의 다양한 중간층을 합성하였으며, 중간층을 포함한 모든 코팅의 두께는 $3{\mu}m$ 로 제어하였다. 합성된 코팅의 미세조직, 경도 및 탄성계수, 내모성을 분석하기 위해 field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), nano-indentation, ball-on-disk 마모시험기 및 ${\alpha}-step$을 사용하였다. 코팅의 내열성을 확인하기 위해 코팅을 furnace에 넣어 공기중에서 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, $1,000^{\circ}C$로 30분 동안 annealing 한 후에 nano-indentation을 사용하여 경도를 측정하였다. CrAlN 코팅을 나노 인덴테이션으로 분석한 결과, 모든 코팅의 경도(35.5-36.2 GPa)와 탄성계수(424.3-429.2 GPa)는 중간층의 종류에 상관없이 비슷한 값을 보인 것으로 확인됐다. 그러나, 코팅의 마찰계수는 중간층의 종류에 따라 다른 값을 보였으며, CrN/CrZrSiN 중간층을 증착한 CrAlN 코팅의 마찰계수는 0.34로 CrZrN 중간층을 증착한 CrAlN 코팅의 마찰계수(0.41)에 비해 낮은 값을 보였다. 또한, 코팅의 마모율 및 마모폭도 비슷한 경향을 보인 것으로 보아, CrN/CrZrSiN 중간층을 합성한 CrAlN 코팅의 내마모성이 상대적으로 우수한 것으로 판단된다. 이것은 중간층의 H/E ratio가 코팅의 내마모성에 미치는 영향에 의한 결과로 사료된다. H/E ratio는 파단시의 최대 탄성 변형율로써, 모재/중간층/코팅의 H/E ratio 구배에 따라 코팅 내의 응력의 완화 정도가 변하게 된다. WC 모재 (H/E=0.040)와 CrAlN 코팅(H/E=0.089) 사이에서 CrN, CrZrSiN 중간층의 H/E ratio 는 각각 0.076, 0.083 으로 모재/중간층/코팅의 H/E ratio 구배가 점차 증가함을 확인 할 수 있었고, 일정 응력이 지속적으로 가해지면서 진행되는 마모시험중에 CrN과 CrZrSiN 중간층이 WC와 CrAlN 코팅 사이에서 코팅 내부의 응력구배를 완화시키는 역할을 함으로써 CrAlN 코팅의 내마모성이 향상된 것으로 판단된다. 모든 코팅을 열처리 후 경도 분석결과, CrN/CrZrSiN 중간층을 증착한 CrAlN 코팅은 $1,000^{\circ}C$까지 약 28GPa의 높은 경도를 유지한 것으로 확인 되었고, 이는 CrZrSiN 중간층 내에 존재하는 $SiN_x$ 비정질상의 우수한 내산화성에 의한 결과로 판단된다.

Crystal Growth of $Cr:Al_2O_3$ and $Ti:Al_2O_3$ by Czochralski Technique (용액인상법에 의한 $Cr:Al_2O_3$$Ti:Al_2O_3$ 단결정 육성)

  • Cr:A12O3 and Ti:A12O3 single crystals were grown by Czochralski method, and the effects of crystal growth parameters such as pulling rate, rotation rate, dopant and growth atmosphere on crystal quality were investigated. And spectroscopic properties including lasing efficiency were also measured. Single crystals, sized of 20mm in diameter and 100-135mm in length, were successfully grown from the seed of <001> direction. With the doping level of 0.5w/o Cr2O3, pulling rate 2.0mm/hr, rotation rate of 30rpm and inert atmosphere by nitrogen gas, high quality crystals of Cr:A12O3 were grown. While in case of Ti:A12O3 crystals, high quality crystals were grown under the conditions of the doping level of 0.25w/o TiO2, pulling rate of 1.5mm/hr, rotation rate of 30rpm and reducing atmosphere by hydrogen - nitrogen mixed gas. It was confirmed that Cr3+ ion which maintains its ionoc valence during growth easily de-bubbled than Ti4+ ion which changes its valence, Fe3+ ion also has do-bubbling effect to Ti:A12O3 crystal and the reducing atmosphere by 90% N2 - 10% H2 mixed gas gave effective result on the changing of Ti4+ to Ti3+ and de-bubbling. As a result of spectroscopic measurements of Cr:A12O3 crystal, 4A2 →4F2 and 4F1 absorption transitions and E →4A2(R1) and 2A →4A2(R2) fluorenscence transitions were confirmed. And it was measured that wavelengths of laser R1 and R2 transitions were 696±5nm and 692±5nm respectively, line width of these transitions were 12A, and life-time of fluorenscence was 152μsec. In case of Ti:A12O3 crystals, it was confirmed that absortion transition of 4T2→4E and fluorescence transition of 4E→4T2 with wide range of 650-1050nm was occured. And 147μsec of life-time of fluorescence, 125.4 of figure of merit and 9% of laser efficience were also measured.

  • At present, the Department of Energy (DOE) in Unite State are directing the efforts of developing accident tolerant fuel (ATF) technology. As the first barrier of nuclear fuel system, the material selection of fuel rod cladding for ATFs is a basic but very significant issue for the development of this concept. The advanced cladding is attractive for providing much stronger oxidation resistance and better in-pile behavior under sever accident conditions (such as SBO, LOCA) for giving more coping time and, of course, at least an equivalent performance under normal condition. In recent years, many researches on in-plie or out-pile physical properties of some suggested cladding materials have been conducted to solve this material selection problem. Base on published literatures, this paper introduced relevant research backgrounds, objectives, research institutions and their progresses on several main potential claddings include triplex SiC, FeCrAl and MAX phase material Ti3SiC2. The physical properties of these claddings for their application in ATF area are also reviewed in thermohydraulic and mechanical view for better understanding and simulating the behaviors of these new claddings. While most of important data are available from publications, there are still many relevant properties are lacking for the evaluations.

Geochemical Composition of Surface Sediments from the Saemangeum Tidal Flat, West Coast of Korea (새만금 조간대 표층퇴적물의 성분원소 함량과 지화학적 특성)

  • To investigate the processes governing the distribution of elements in the tidal flat, thirty-eight sediment samples collected from the Saemangeum tidal flat of the Korean west coast were analyzed for their contents of major (Al, Fe, Mg, Ca, Na, K, Ti) and trace (P, Mn, Ba, Sr, V, Cr, Co, Cu, Ni, Zn, Pb) elements. Most elements showed generally lower contents compared to data published for other tidal flats of Korea, and the effect of anthropogenic input could not be recognized in the sediments. The relative abundance and distribution of most of the elements varied significantly with the grain size of sediments. High contents of Al, Fe, Mg, Ti, P, Mn, V, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni and Zn were found in the finer sediments in the upper tidal flat of the study area, suggesting that tidal sedimentation processes play an important role in controlling the distribution of these elements. However, sediment grain size does not impose any significant effect on the abundance and distribution of Ca, Na, K, Ba, Sr and Pb. It appears that the clastic mineralogy in the coarse-grained fractions is the dominant factor determining the distribution of these elements in the study area.

A Design Approach to $CrO_x/TiO_2$-based Catalysts for Gas-phase TCE Oxidation (기상 TCE 제거반응용 $CrO_x/TiO_2$계 복합 산화물 촉매 디자인)

  • Single and complex metal oxide catalysts supported onto a commercial DT51D $TiO_2$ have been investigated for gas-phase TCE oxidation in a continuous flow type fixed-bed reaction system to develop a better design approach to catalysts for this reaction. Among the $TiO_2$-supported single metal oxides used, i.e., $CrO_x,\;FeO_x,\;MnO_x,\;LaO_x,\;CoO_x,\;NiO_x,\;CeO_x\;and\;CuO_x$, with the respective metal contents of 5 wt.%, the $CrO_x/TiO_2$ catalyst was shown to be most active for the oxidative TCE decomposition, depending significantly on amounts of $CrO_x\;on\;TiO_2$. The use of high $CrO_x$ loadings greater than 10 wt.% caused lower activity in the catalytic TCE oxidation, which is probably due to production of $Cr_2O_3$ crystallites on the surface of $TiO_2$. $CrO_x/TiO_2$-supported $CrO_x$-based bimetallic oxide catalysts were of particular interest in removal efficiency for this TCE oxidation reaction at reaction temperatures above $200^{\circ}C$, compared to that obtained with $CrO_x$-free complex metal oxides and a 10 wt.% $CrO_x/TiO_2$ catalyst. Catalytic activity of 5 wt.% $CrO_x-5$ wt.% $LaO_x$ in the removal reaction was similar to or slightly higher than that acquired for the $CrO_x$-only catalyst. Similar observation was revealed for 5 wt.% $CrO_x$-based bimetallic oxides consisting of either 5 wt.% $MnO_x,\;CoO_x,\;NiO_x\;or\;FeO_x$. These results represent that such $CrO_x$-based bimetallic systems for the catalytic TCE oxidation on significantly minimize the usage of $CrO_x$ that is well known to be one of very toxic heavy metals, and offer a very useful technique to design new type catalysts for reducing chlorinated volatile organic substances.

Improvement of Corrosion Resistance and Nano-hardness of Ti-Al-N Deposit Formed by Arc Ion Plating (아크 이온 증착된 TiAlN 도포층의 내식성과 나노 경도 개선)

  • $300^{\circ}C$$500^{\circ}C$에서 아크 이온 증착된 도포층의 조성은 각각 Fe : Al : Ti : Si : N = 1.31 : 36.52 : 31.31 : 0.48 : 30.38 [wt.%]와 Fe : Cr : Al : Ti : Si : N = 1.24 : 0.56 : 36.82 : 32.72 : 0.59 : 28.07 [wt.%] 이었다. 0.1N $H_2SO_4$ 수용액과 인공해수 (ASTM D1141-98) 분위기에서 $300^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$에서 증착된 도포층의 부식전압과 부식속도는 각각 $-0.2787V_{SHE}$, $0.002A/cm^2$, $-2.764V_{SHE}$, $0.002A/cm^2$$-0.2799V_{SHE}$, $0.002A/cm^2$, $-0.0394V_{SHE}$, $0.002A/cm^2$이었다. 나노 경도값은 각각 23.6, 25.8 GPa 이었다. 이는 각각 2208.2, $2434.2H_V$에 해당되었다.
