알루미나와 탄소단섬유를 혼합한 금속복합재료의 기계적 성질과 고체윤활 마모거동 (Mechanical Properties and Solid Lubricant Wear Behavior of MMCs Reinforced with a Hybrid of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ and Carbon Short Fibers)

  • Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C hybrid metal matrix composites are fabricated by the direct squeeze infiltration method. From the microstructure of Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites, uniform distribution of reinforcements and good bondings are found. Optimum processing conditions for preforms and squeeze castings are suggested. Mechanical properties, such as elastic modulus, elongation, 0.2% offset yield strength and ultimate tensile strength are obtained. Through the abrasive were test and wear surface analsis, wear behavior and its mechanism of AC2B aluminum and Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites can be characterized under various sliding speed conditions. Tensile strenght elongation of Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites are decreased with increasing the addition of carbon fiber. On the contrary, elastic modulus of Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites is slightly improved compared with that of the unreinforced matrix alloy. The addition of carbon fiber to al/al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites gives rise to improvement of the wear resistance. Specially, carbon chopped fibers play an important role in interfering sticking between the counter material and metal matirix composites. Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites are suitable to high speed due to solid lubication of carbon. And wear model of Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites is suggested by the examination of worn surfaces.

  • 본 연구는 단섬유보강 금속복합재료의 피로 및 주기적 거동에 관한 연구로서, 가압용침법을 이용하여 제조된 Al6061과 이를 기지금속으로 사용한 단섬유보강 Al/$Al_2O_3$-15% 복합재료의 주기적변형(cyclic deformation)과 피로거동(fatigue behavior)에 대해서 실험적으로 고찰하였다. Al/$Al_2O_3$ 복합재로의 피로강도는 210MPa로 나타났고 기지금속은 170MPa로 나타났다. 영구소성변형에 의한 합변위는 피로수명 초기 5%이내에서 대부분 발생하며 파단시의 합변위는 복합재료와 기지금속 모두 축적된 소성변형으로 인하여 인장시험에서의 연신율에 비해 작은 값을 가진다. 금속복합재료의 주기적 변위는 보강재가 전위 전파의 저지역할을 함으로써 기지금속에 비하여 다소 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 파면관찰결과 기지금속의 경우 금속복합재료에 비해 전체 시험편 단면에서 넓은 영역에서 균열전파 형태를 관찰할 수 있었으며, 또한 금속복합재료의 파면에서는 연속적인 피로하중에 의한 기지금속과 보강재간의 분리(debonding)등의 결과로 보강재가 뽑혀나간 흔적이 관찰되고 있다.

금속기지 세라믹 복합소재의 경면연삭 가공 특성 (Properties of Mirror-surface Grinding for Metal Matrix Ceramic Composites)

  • This study has been focused on properties of mirror surface grinding technology by ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) for metal matrix ceramic composites using in high precision mirror for optics. The experimental studies have been carried out to get mirror surface by grinding for composites, Al-SiC, Al-graphite and Mg-SiC. Grinding process is carried out with varying abrasive mesh type, depth of cut and feed rate using diamond wheel. The machining result of the surface roughness and condition of ground surface, have been analyzed by use of surface roughness tester and SEM measurement system. ELID grinding technology could be applied successfully for the mirror-surface manufacturing processes in spite of ductility of metal matrix material. As the results of experiments, surface roughness of Al-SiC(45 wt%) has been the most superior in these experimental work-pieces as 0.021 ${\mu}m$ Ra.

용사법에 의한 Al/Al-SiC 복합재료의 제조 (Fabrication of Al/Al-SiC Composites by Thermal Spray Process)

  • Metal matrix composites(MMCs) reinforced with ceramic particulates are receiving increasing attention because their high specific strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion and excellent wear resistance. Especially, Al-based composites(AMCs) have been widely applied for the aerospace and automotive industries. Such composites are mainly fabricated by the cast, powder metallurgy and infiltration process. In this study, SiC particulate reinforced Al-based composites were fabricated by thermal spray process and their wear behavior were investigated. Composites with different spray parameter were fabricated by using flame spray apparatus. Microstructure and wear behavior of the composites were observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and electron probe micro-analysis(EPMA).

AlN/W계 복합재료의 기계적 특성과 미세구조 (Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of AlN/W Composites)

  • Monolithic AlN and AlN-W composites were fabricated by pressure-less sintering at 190$0^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen atmosphere and the influences of tungsten phase on the microstructure and mechanical properties were investi-gated. In the fabrication of sintered specimen no additive was used. And monolithic AlN showed substantial grain growth and low relative density. AlN-W composites were fully densified and grain growths of matrix were inhibited. The densification behavior of composites were inferred to be achieved through the liquid phase sintering process such as particle-rearrangement and solutino-reprecipitation. Also the oxid phases which is expected to form liquid phases duringsintering process were detected by XRD analysis. As the tungsten volume content increases fracture strength was decreased and fracture toughness was increased. It was suppo-sed that the strength decrease of composites with tungsten content was due to existence of interface phases. The subcritical crack growth behavior was observed from the stress-strain curve of composites. The effect of the secondary phase and interface phases on toughness in crease were studied through observation of crack propagation path and the influence of residual stress on crack propagation was investigated by X-ray residual stress measurement. In the result of residual stress measurement the compressive stress of matrix in composi-test was increased with tungsten volume content and the compressive stress distribution of matrix must have contributed to the inhibition of crack propagation.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the lubricated wear properties of Saffil/Al, Saffil/$Al_2O_3/Al$ and Saffil/SiC/Al hybrid metal matrix composites fabricated by squeeze casting method. Wear tests were done on a pin-on-disk friction & wear tester with long sliding distance. The wear properties of the three composites were evaluated in many respects. The effects of Saffil, $Al_2O_3$ particles and SiC particles on the wear behavior of the composites under lubricated conditions were elucidated. Wear mechanisms were analyzed by observing the worn surfaces of the composites. The variation of coefficient of friction (COF) during the wear process was recorded by using a computer. Comparing with the dry sliding condition, all three composites showed excellent wear resistance when lubricated by liquid paraffin. Under intermediate load, Saffil/Al showed best wear resistance among them, and its COF value is the smallest. The dominant wear mechanism of the composites was microploughing, but microcracking also occurred for them to different extent.

  • The infiltration behavior of molten Al-alloy, microstructures, hardness, and the interfacial reactions of $SiC_p/Al$ composites fabricated by the pressureless infiltration technique were investigated. It was made clear that both the weight fraction of SiC reinforcement and additive Mg content considerably influenced on the infiltration behavior of the molten Al-alloy matrix. Complete infiltration of molten Al-alloy achieved under the conditions that weight fraction of SiC content is more than 30wt%, and additive Mg content is more than 9wt%. Interfacial region of Al-alloy matrix and SiC reinforcement phase, $Mg_2Si$ was formed by the reaction between Mg and SiC. Another reaction product AlN was also formed by the reaction between Al-alloy matrix and gas atmosphere nitrogen.

  • 본 연구에서는 질화알루미늄을 강화재로 갖는 알루미늄기지 복합재료를 질소 분위기에서의 아크용해 공정을 통해 제조하였다. 알루미늄과 질소 원자의 화학반응을 1분간 유지시켰을 때, 중간층과 라멜라층으로 구분되는 질화알루미늄 강화상이 자발적으로 알루미늄 용탕 내부에 형성되어 기지 전반에 분포되었다. 복합재료는 약 10 vol.%의 AlN을 가지며, 이 강화재는 계면에서 낮은 열저항과 강한 결합을 보였다. 제조된 복합재료는 열전도도가 높고 열팽창계수는 낮은 열적 특성 조합을 보였다. 또한, 본 연구의 복합재료는 이종원소인 실리콘을 기지에 첨가함으로써 열팽창계수를 추가적으로 감소시키는 것이 가능했다. 이는 아크 용해법으로 제조된 알루미늄기지 복합재료가 낮은 열팽창계수를 요구하는 방열소재로 적용될 수 있는 가능성을 시사한다.

  • In this study, aluminum borate whisker reinforced Mg-3Al-2Ag-1Zn matrix composites were fabricated by the squeeze infiltration technique. The purpose is to develop materials for elevated temperature applications. Microstructure observation revealed successful fabrication of the metal matrix composites, namely no cast defects such as porosity and matrix/reinforcement interface delamination etc. High temperature hardness and creep rupture properties were improved significantly with addition of Ag to the Al borate whisker reinforced Mg alloy composite. $Mg_3Ag$ phase formed during aging heat treatment could improve creep properties of the Mg matrix composites.

고체적률 TiB2-Al1050 금속복합재료의 미세조직 및 기계적 특성 연구 (Study on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of High Volume Fraction TiB2-Al1050 Metal Matrix Composites)

  • 본 연구에서는 액상가압성형공정을 이용하여 고체적률 $TiB_2$ 입자가 균일하게 분산된 알루미늄 복합재료를 제조하고 미세조직과 기계적 물성을 분석하였다. 제조된 알루미늄 복합재료 내에 $TiB_2$는 약 56 Vol.% 존재하였으며 Al1050 기지재 내부에 $TiB_2$ 세라믹 강화재의 균일한 분산에 의한 분산강화 효과로 경도는 230.5 Hv로써 기지재(Al1050) 대비 약 10배, 인장강도는 306.4 MPa로 약 4.5배, 압축항복강도는 581.7 MPa로 약 9.8배 증가하였다.
