  • Propeller blades have complex airfoil section type geometry and the thickness is continuously varied to both its length and cord-wise direction. in the present research, the finite element analysis program PROSTEC (Propeller Stress Evaluation Code) is developed to calculate the structural responses of propeller blades in irregular ship wake field. To represent the curved and skewed geometry of propeller blades accurately, 20-node curved solid element using the quadratic shape function is adopted. Input data for the analysis including the geometry and pressure distribution of propeller blades can be generated automatically from the propeller design program. And to visualize the results of analysis on windows system conveniently, the post processor PROSTEC-POST is developed.

  • A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of airfoil on the optimum flap height using NACA0015 Wells turbine. The five double flaps which have 0.5% difference were selected. A Navier-Stokes code, CFX-TASCflow, was used to calculate the flow field of the Wells turbine. The basic feature of the Wells turbine is that even though the cyclic airflow produces oscillating axial forces on the airfoil blades, the tangential force on the rotor is always in the same direction. Geometry used to define the three dimension numerical grid is based upon that of an experimental test rig. This paper tries to disign the double flap of Wells turbine with the numerical analysis.

  • Propeller shall have high efficiency and improved aerodynamic characteristics to get the thrust to fly at high speed for the turboprop aircraft. That is way Clark-Y airfoil which is used to conventional 1600kW class aircraft propeller is selected as a blade airfoil. Adkins method is used for aerodynamic design and performance analysis with respect to the propeller design point. Adkins method is based on the vortex-blade element theory which design the propeller to satisfy the condition for minimum energy loss. propeller geometry is generated by varying chord length and pitch angle at design point of turboprop aircraft. The propeller design results indicate that is evaluated to be properly constructed, through analysis of propeller aerodynamic characteristics using the Meshless method and MRF, SM method.

  • Ice accretion is one of the potential hazards in airplane flight, adversely affecting aircraft aerodynamic. There are two distinct icing analysis that can be simulated. One is predicting the effect of ice on the aerodynamic performance of airfoils when ice geometry is known. The other is simulating ice accretion. This work presents the method of icing accretion analysis. This work presents an Eulerian approach to calculate the droplet collection efficiency on the 2D airfoil. The initial flow solution are obtained the FLUENT and copled with droplet motion in the ambient condition.

  • Ice accretion may occur when the sold surface passes through the clouds containing supercooled water droplets. In the case of aircraft, it can result in serious performance degradation and safety hazard. In this study, numerical analysis code has been developed to predict the rime ice shapes on a 2-D airfoil and the computation results are validated against experimental data of NASA and other computation results of well-known ice prediction code, LEWICE. In addition, the effects of various numerical parameters on the ice shape have been systematically investigated.

  • An Euler solver is developed to predict accurate aerodynamic data such as lift coefficient, drag coefficient, and moment coefficient. The conservation law form of the compressible Euler equations are used in the generalized curvilinear coordinates system. The Euler solver uses a finite volume method and the second order Roe's flux difference splitting scheme with min-mod flux limiter to calculate the fluxes accurately. An implicit scheme which includes the boundary conditions is implemented to accelerate the convergence rate. The multi-block grid is integrated into the flow solver for complex geometry. The flowfields are analyzed around NACA 0012 airfoil in the cases of $M_{\infty}=0.75,\;\alpha=2.0\;and\;M_{\infty}=0.80,\;\alpha=1.25$. The numerical results are compared with other numerical results from the literature. The final goal of this research is to prepare a robust and an efficient Navier-Stokes solver eventually.

  • A grid generation program for specific problems is introduced. The program allows users to easily generate grid system for specific geometry such as an airfoil, cylinder, wedge, flat plate, and nozzle. Generating grid system for those problems can be proceeded with minimum user inputs such as geometry-defining parameters and grid-defining parameters. By using this program learning stage for preprocessing of CFD application can be efficiently shorten and novice students can learn and acquire experience by trying out grid generation and CFD solution by themselves.
