A military aircraft generally includes external stores such as fuel tanks or external arming, depending on the purpose of the operation. When a store is dropped from a military aircraft at high subsonic, transonic, or supersonic speeds, the aerodynamic forces and moments acting on the store can be sufficient to send the store back into contact with the aircraft. This can cause damage to the aircraft and endanger the life of the crew. In this study, time accurate computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with dynamic moving grid (moving and deformable mesh, MDM) technique has been used to accurately calculate store trajectories. For the verification of the present numerical approach, a wind tunnel test model for the wing-pylon-finned store configuration has been considered and analyzed. The comparison results for the ejected store trajectories between the present numerical analysis and the wind tunnel test data at the Mach number of 0.95 and 1.2 are presented. It is also importantly shown that the numerical parameter of MDM technique gives significant effect for the calculated store trajectory in the low-supersonic flow such as Mach 1.2.

In case of South Korea, the airspace which airlines can operate is extremely limited due to the military operational area located within the Incheon flight information region. As a result, safety problems such as mid-air collision between aircraft or Traffic alert and Collision Avoidance System Resolution Advisory (TCAS RA) may occur with higher probability than in wider airspace. In order to prevent such safety problems, an mid-air collision risk detection model based on Detect-And-Avoid (DAA) well clear metrics is investigated. The model calculates the risk of mid-air collision between aircraft using aircraft trajectory data. In this paper, the practical use of DAA well clear metrics based model has been validated. Aviation safety data such as aviation safety mandatory report and Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast is used to measure the performance of the model. The attributes of individual aircraft track data is analyzed to correct the threshold of each parameter of the model.
The 30mm anti-aircraft gun has been developed with various types of weapon systems such as protective, protective complex, and wheel-type anti-aircraft artillery. The role of this anti-aircraft gun is an important anti-aircraft weapon in charge of air defense. Anti-aircraft weapons are tasked with defending the airspace from aircraft attacks. In particular, anti-aircraft weapons are organized in combination with mechanized units. And anti-aircraft weapons are prone to attack by enemies because they operate on the front lines of the battlefield. The enemy is expected to attack our troops by covering up or concealing as much as possible in order to increase their viability. Therefore, this study analyzed whether our 30mm anti-aircraft bullets could subdue the enemy in cover. This study analyzed the performance of 30mm anti-aircraft bullets using the M&S technique. For this study, live shooting and simulation method by M&S were used for the experiment. In this study, steel plate and plywood were used for the live shooting experiment. In addition, in the simulation process through M&S, this study used the PRODAS model, AUTODYN model, and Split-x model to analyze the trajectory, penetration, and fragmentation capability of 30mm anti-aircraft bullets. According to the experimental results, it has been proven that 30mm anti-aircraft bullets can destroy enemy armored vehicles. 30mm anti-aircraft bullets succeeded in quickly subduing enemies concealed in general buildings or forests. In this way, it was possible to minimize damage to allies in advance.
To perform realistic air traffic control (ATC) simulation in various air traffic situations, an aircraft dynamic model that is accurate and efficient is required. In this research, an improved five degree of freedom (5-DOF) dynamic model with feedback control and guidance law is developed, which utilizes selected performance data and operational specifications from the base of aircraft data (BADA) and estimations using aircraft design techniques to improve the simulation fidelity. In addition, takeoff weight is estimated based on the aircraft type and flight plan to improve simulation accuracy. The dynamic model is validated by comparing the simulation results with recorded flight trajectories. An ATC simulation system using this 5-DOF model can be used for various ATC related research.

It has been studied for DGPS/INS(Differential Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System) to offer the more precise and reliable navigation data with the aviation industry development. The flight performance evaluation of navigation system is very significant because the reliability of navigation data directly affect the safety of aircraft. Especially, the high-level navigation system, as DGPS/INS, need more precise flight performance evaluation method. The performance analysis is performed by comparing between the DGPS/INS navigation data and reference trajectory which is more precise than DGPS/INS. The GPS receiver, which is capable of post-processed CDGPS(Carrier-phase DGPS) method, can be used as reference system. Generally, the DGPS/INS is estimated the CG(Center of Gravity) point of aircraft while the reference system is output the position of GPS antenna which is mounted on the outside of aircraft. For this reason, estimated error between DGPS/INS and reference system will include the error due to lever arm. In order to more precise performance evaluation, it is needed to compensate the lever arm. This paper presents procedure and result of flight test which includes lever arm compensation in order to verify reliability and performance of DGPS/INS more precisely.
The dynamical requirements are obtained for airplanes to travel on inclined circular trajectories. Formulas are provided for determining the load factor, the bank angle, the lift coefficient and the thrust or power required for the motion. The dynamical properties of the airplane are taken into account, for both, airplanes with internal combustion engines and propellers, and airplanes with jet engines. A procedure is presented for the construction of tables from which the flyability of trajectories at a given angle of inclination can be read, together with the corresponding minimum and maximum radii allowed. Sample calculations are shown for the Cessna 182, a Silver Fox like unmanned aerial vehicle, and a F-16 jet airplane.
In the present paper, the optimal selection of batteries for an electric pump-fed hybrid rocket engine is analyzed. A two-stage Mars Ascent Vehicle, suitable for the Mars Sample Return Mission, is considered as test case. A single engine is employed in the second stage, whereas the first stage uses a cluster of two engines. The initial mass of the launcher is equal to 500 kg and the same hybrid rocket engine is considered for both stages. Ragone plot-based correlations are embedded in the optimization process in order to chose the optimal values of specific energy and specific power, which minimize the battery mass ad hoc for the optimized engine design and ascent trajectory. Results show that a payload close to 100 kg is achievable considering the current commercial battery technology.
Automatic trajectory planning is an important task that will have to be performed by truly autonomous vehicles. The main method proposed, for unmanned airplanes to do this, consists in concatenating elementary segments of trajectories such as rectilinear, circular and helical segments. It is argued here that because these cannot be expected to all be flyable at a same constant speed, it is necessary to consider segments on which the airplane accelerates or decelerates. In order to preserve the planning advantages that result from having the speed constant, it is proposed to do all speed changes at maximum deceleration or acceleration, so that they are as brief as possible. The constraints on the load factor, the lift and the power required for the motion are derived. The equation of motion for such accelerated motions is solved numerically. New results are obtained concerning the value of the angle and the speed for which the longest distance and the longest duration glides happen, and then for which the steepest, the fastest and the most fuel economical climbs happen. The values obtained differ from those found in most airplane dynamics textbooks. Example of tables are produced that show how general speed changes can be effected efficiently; showing the time required for the changes, the horizontal distance traveled and the amount of fuel required. The results obtained apply to all internal combustion engine-propeller driven airplanes.

A concept of the perch landing assisted by thruster (PLAT) for a fixed wind aircraft is proposed in this paper. The proposed concept is applicable to relatively large unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), hence can overcome the limitation of existing perch landing technologies. A planar rigid body motion of an aircraft with aerodynamic and thruster forces and moments is modeled. An optimal control problem to minimize the fuel consumption by determining the histories of thruster and elevator deflection angle with specified terminal landing condition is formulated and solved. A parametric study for various initial conditions and thruster parameters is conducted to demonstrate the practicability of the proposed concept.

Collision avoidance for multiple aircraft can be stated as a problem ofmaintaining safe distance between aircraft in conflict. Optimal collision avoidanceproblem seeks to minimize the given cost function while simultaneously satisfyingconstraints. The cost function could be a function of time or control input. This paper addresses the trajectory time-optimization problem for collision avoidance of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs). The problem is difficult to handle in general due to the two-point boundary value problem subject to dynamic environments. Some simplifying aleorithms are used for potential applications in on-line operation.Although under possibility of more complicated problems, a dynamic problem is transformed into a static one by prediction of the conflict time and some appropriate assumptions.
