Voice Recognition has recently been improved with AI(Artificial Intelligence) and has greatly improved the false recognition rate and provides an effective and efficient Human Machine Interface (HMI). This trend has also been applied in the defense industry, particularly in the aviation, F-35. However, for the quality evaluation of Voice Recognition, the defense industry, especially the aircraft, requires measurable quantitative models. In this paper, the quantitative evaluation model is proposed for applying Voice Recognition to aircraft. For the proposal, the evaluation items are identified from the Voice Recognition technology and ISO/IEC 25000(SQuaRE) quality attributes. Using these two perspectives, the quantitative evaluation model is proposed under aircraft operation condition and confirms the evaluation results.

The PTO (Power Take-Off) shaft for aircraft, with welded construction using multiple thin membranes, was developed in the 1950s to improve the elasticity of the part. As it is lightweight, stable at high speeds, and has good flexibility, it is used in most of the fighter aircraft. It connects the AMAD (aircraft mounted accessory drive) gearbox with the EMAD (engine mounted accessory drive) gearbox and transmits the rotational power between them. It operates in the high speed range of 10,000-18,000 rpm. In this study, the safety of the PTO shaft made of Ti alloy was investigated using finite element analysis, and the ability to transmit power was demonstrated through a high-cycle fatigue test conducted in a laboratory. Further, the life of the ball joints of the aircraft under high-cycle fatigue test conditions was predicted, and the wear characteristics were analyzed.
We analyzed the high-resolution wind data of Aircraft-Based Observation from the Mode-Selective Enhanced Surveillance (Mode-S EHS) data in Korea. For assessment of its quality, the Mode-S wind data was compared with the ECMWF ReAnalysis 5 (ERA5) reanalysis and Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) data for more than 3-months from 7 May 2021 to 24 August 2021 near Incheon International Airport, Korea. Considering that the AMDAR reports are not provided by all commercial aircraft, total number of the Mode-S derived wind data with a second sampling rate was about twice larger than that of available AMDAR wind data. After the quality control procedures by removing erroneous samples, it was found that the root mean square errors (RMSEs) of the Mode-S retrieved winds are similar to that from the AMDAR winds. In particular, between 550 and 650 hPa levels, RMSE of the Mode-S (AMDAR) zonal wind against ERA5 data was about 2.3 m s-1 (1.9 m s-1), and those increased to 3.3 m s-1 (2.4 m s-1) in 200~500 hPa levels. A similar trend was found in the meridional wind, but a distinct positive mean bias of 2.16 m s-1 was observed between 875 and 1,000 hPa levels. Winds retrieved from the Mode-S also showed a good agreement directly with AMDAR data. As the Mode-S provides a large amount of data with a reliable quality, it can be useful for both data assimilation in the numerical weather prediction model and situational awareness of wind and turbulence for aviation safety in Korea.

During the operation of military aircraft, maintenance is divided into organizational, intermediate and depot maintenance. In the depot maintenance, after removal of major parts and removable doors, damage assessment is performed. Locating damage, charactering the damage and determining its extent, zoning the damage on the part being repaired and re-evaluation of the damaged area after damage removal. Repair joints are classified by bonded joints and bolted joints, depending on joining material. In this paper, repair method in aging aircraft is investigated and the possibility of application of copmposite patch is surveyed.

In this study, we developed a methodology to determine the reference parameter for an aircraft impact induced risk assessment of nuclear power plant (NPP) using finite element impact analysis of containment building. The target structure used to develop the method of reference parameter selection is one of the typical Korean PWR type containment buildings. We composed a three-dimensional finite element model of the containment building. The concrete damaged plasticity model was used for the concrete material model. The steels in the tendon, rebar, and liner were modeled using the piecewise-linear stress-strain curves. To evaluate the correlations between structural response and each candidate parameter, we developed Riera's aircraft impact force-time history function with respect to the variation of the loading parameters, i.e., impact velocity and mass of the remaining fuel. For each force-time history, the type of aircraft is assumed to be a Boeing 767 model. The variation ranges of the impact velocity and remaining fuel percentage are 50 to 200m/s, and 30 to 90%, respectively. Four parameters, i.e., kinetic energy, total impulse, maximum impulse, and maximum force are proposed for candidates of the reference parameter. The wellness of the correlation between the reference parameter and structural responses was formulated using the coefficient of determination ($R^2$). From the results, we found that the maximum force showed the highest $R^2$ value in most responses in the materials. The simplicity and intuitiveness of the maximum force parameter are also remarkable compared to the other candidate parameters. Therefore, it can be concluded that the maximum force is the most proper candidate for the reference parameter to assess the aircraft impact induced risk of NPPs.
Air traffic increased 12% annually in Korea since 1988 after the Olympics, this rate is two times than the rate of the world average. In order to accommodate fast growing aviation demand, Incheon International Airport is operated at Yongjong Island since March, 2001. The Incheon airport project will continue till 2020. After the final phase in 2020, Incheon International Airport will handle 100 million passengers, 530,000 flights and 7 million tons of cargo annually. In this study, air pollution from aircraft and other sources are calculated and assessed in Incheon International Airport area by EDMS(Emission and Dispersion Modeling System), which is a combined emission and dispersion model for airport. EDMS could also be considered power plant, incinerator and aircraft support equipment such as ground support equipment, aerospace ground equipment, auxiliary power units. And EDMS is recommended as preferred model for air quality assessment of the airport area by U.S. EP A. The result of this study shows that NOx emission from aircraft and support utility is estimated as 27,000 - 35,000 ton/yr and Namdong-Gu area in Incheon city is affected as 30-60 ppb by the NOx emission from these sources in 2020, the final phase of Incheon international airport construction.

This paper describes the problems in measuring and evaluating the aviation noises and the differences on the noise characteristics between fighter and civil aircraft. From a standpoint of the duration time for aviation noise and the dynamic characteristics related with the sampling time, the measured values for landing and taking-off noises from the fighter are presented and explained in comparison with those from the civil aircraft. And also the aviation noises by the fighter and civil aircraft are evaluated by equivalent sound level and WECPNL, respectively. From the obtained results, it is recommended that the duration time and dynamic characteristics be deeply considered in evaluating and measuring the aviation noises, since they have a great influence on the final assessment results. As the number of flight is not sufficient and the noise source is strong impulse type, moreover, the aviation noise should be assessed by WECPNL.

A continuing challenge in the aviation industry is how to safely keep aircraft in service longer with limited maintenance budgets. Therefore, all the advanced countries in aircraft technologies put great efforts in prediction of failure rate in parts and system, but in the domestic aircraft industry is lack of theoretical and experimental research. Prediction of failure rate provides a rational basis for design decisions such as the choice of part quality levels and derating factors to be applied. For these reasons, analytic prediction of failure rate is essential process in developing aircraft structure. In this paper, a procedure for prediction of failure rate for aircraft structural parts is presented. Cargo door kinematic parts are taken to illustrate the process, in which the failure rate for Hook part is computed by using Monte Carlo Simulation along with Response Surface Model, and system failure rate is obtained afterwards.

Airworthiness certification is a repeatable process implemented to verify that a specific aircraft can be safely maintained and operated within its approved flight envelope. Airworthiness certification activity for the FA-50 aircraft has been performed according to the Airworthiness Certification Criteria, issued in 2011 by DAPA. It is a right time to study the application of those existing ACC process and tools to the hypothetical modification aircraft. This paper describes airworthiness engineers view of the integrated activities required to substantiate the modified aircraft performance. The compliance methods applicable to the airworthiness certification criteria is also suggested. It will be useful for the establishment of the future Korea modified military aircraft's ACC with the risk assessment and methods of compliances tailored to the legacy aircraft.
Objective: The exposure levels of disease-causing bacteria and germs were assessed on aircraft cleaning workers on multiple different aircrafts. Method: Five measuring points were selected depending on the aircraft types. Four aircraft cleaning agencies were selected for the test. Aircraft cleaning work was classified as intensive cleaning and general cleaning work. Ventilation in aircraft when sampling during the cleaning operation was categorized into forced ventilation and natural ventilation. The collection of airborne microorganisms was made through inertial impactors which were installed 1.5 meters above the bottom of the aircraft. The airborne bacteria and fungus growth badges were selected by Trytpic Soy Agar and Sabouraud Dextrose Agar. Results: The average concentrations of bacteria in the air were higher in the order of small, medium, and large airplanes. Rainy days had higher concentrations inside and outside the aircraft as compared to those in sunny days. Regarding ventilation, concentrations in natural ventilation were higher than concentrations in forced ventilation. According to the type of work, the concentrations in the intensive cleaning groups (cleaning one plane a day) were lower than those of the ordinary cleaning groups (cleaning several planes per day). Conclusion: The concentration levels of airborne bacteria and fungi in the aircraft surveyed were lower than the indoor environmental standards of Korea (800 cfu/m3 and 500 cfu/m3). The average concentrations of bacteria in the air and fungi in the air were highest in small aircraft owned by Company D.
