PURPOSE. Although several surface treatments have been recently investigated both under in vitro and in vivo conditions, controversy still exists regarding the selection of the most appropriate zirconia surface pre-treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of alumina (Al) and aluminium nitride (AlN) coating on the shear bond strength of adhesive resin cement to zirconia core. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Fifty zirconia core discs were divided into 5 groups; air particle abrasion with 50 ${\mu}m$ aluminum oxide particles ($Al_2O_3$), polishing + Al coating, polishing + AlN coating, air particle abrasion with 50 ${\mu}m$$Al_2O_3$ + Al coating and air particle abrasion with 50 ${\mu}m$$Al_2O_3$ + AlN coating. Composite resin discs were cemented to each of specimens. Shear bond strength (MPa) was measured using a universal testing machine. The effects of the surface preparations on each specimen were examined with scanning electron microscope (SEM). Data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. The highest bond strengths were obtained by air abrasion with 50 ${\mu}m$$Al_2O_3$, the lowest bond strengths were obtained in polishing + Al coating group (P<.05). CONCLUSION. Al and AlN coatings using the reactive magnetron sputtering technique were found to be ineffective to increase the bond strength of adhesive resin cement to zirconia core.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether differences in surface treatment prior to repair influenced the seal of a resin fissure sealant placed on the occlusal surfaces of permanent molar teeth. One hundred and twenty extracted human molars were selected and a light curing sealant was placed on their occlusal surface following cleaning by prophylaxis and acid etching. The teeth were deliberately damaged, and then stored in artificial saliva for four weeks. Sixty teeth with the desired morphology of sealant failure were randomly divided into four groups where one group was treated with only etching agent, another by only air-abrasion, another by applying an etching agent followed by a bonding agent, and the last by air-abrasion followed by a bonding agent each. After sealant application, the samples were thermocycled and the degree of microleakage was determined. The results were as follows : 1. In the sealant/sealant interface group 2(0.22), 4(0.23) using air-abrasion showed a significantly lower microleakage score than group 1(0.38), 3(0.35) using an etching agent(p<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences(p>0.05) between groups 1, 2 and groups 3, 4. 2. In the sealant/tooth interface, group 3(0.20), 4(0.20) which used a bonding agent showed a significantly lower microleakage score than group 1(0.35), 2(0.40) (p<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences(p>0.05) between groups 1, 3 and groups 2, 4. 3. In SEM examination, while sealant surfaces treated with etching did not result in highly rough surfaces, those treated with air-abrasion did show rough surfaces.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the bond strength between PEKK(Polyetherketoneketone) and Sinfony(3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) the dental composite resin by proposing the three representative surface treatment methods and evaluate to see if they affect the bond strength between two materials. A total of 30 PEKK($Pekkton^{(R)}$ Ivory, $Cendres+M{\acute{e}}taux$, Bienne, Switzerland) specimens were prepared, embedded in acrylic resin, polished(P 1200 grid) to surface, and each group was divided into 10 specimens. After then, by the surface treatment method, it classified into three groups(n=10) such as Air abrasion group(PN), applying Single Bond Universal(3M ESPE) after Air abrasion(PB), applying OPAQUE(3M ESPE) after Air abrasion(PO). Then, veneering was performed by using Sinfony(3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany). All completed specimens were allowed to rest in a $37^{\circ}C$ water bath for 24 hours. Shear bond strength of each group was measured and fracture patterns were classified. Statistic analysis was performed with One-way ANOVA followed by post hoc Scheffe tast (p<.05). Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSSWIN 21.0 program. As a result of one-way ANOVA, the average value of PB group was $27.67{\pm}4,18MPa$ and it was shown as the highest bond strength, PN and PO were $20.43{\pm}1.70$ and $19.8{\pm}4.77MPa$ each, and these were relatively low(F=18.4, P<.001), and as the post-test the Scheffe test was conducted and verified (p<.05). After examining the scheffe test, it was showed significant differences as PB>PO, PB>PN(p<.001). Through this study, in order to enhance the bonding force between PEKK and the composite resin, perform the Air abrasion and surface treatment by using Single Bond Universal(3M ESPE) is recommended, and as coMPared with other studies. And it is assumed that the increase of the application time of the Air abrasion affects the increase of the shear bond strength. Thus, further research is required.
Three different white cast irons alloyed with Cr, V, Mo and W were prepared in order to study their abrasion wear behavior in as-cast and heat-treated conditions. The specimens were produced using a 15㎏-capacity high frequency induction furnace. Melts were super-heated to $1600^{\circ}C$, and poured at $1550^{\circ}C$ into Y-block pepset molds. Three combinations of the alloying elements were selected so as to obtain the different types of carbides : 3%C-10%Cr-5%Mo-5%W(alloy No. 1: $M_7C_3$ and $M_6C$), 3%C -10%V-5%Mo-5%W(alloy No. 2: MC and $M_2C$) and 3%C-17%Cr-3%V(alloy No. 3: $M_7C_3$ only). A scratching type abrasion test was carried out in the states of as-cast(AS), homogenizing(AH), air-hardening(AHF) and tempering(AHFT). First of all, the as-cast specimens were homogenized at $950^{\circ}C$ for 5h under the vacuum atmosphere. Then, they were austenitized at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 2h and followed by air-hardening in air. The air-hardened specimens were tempered at $300^{\circ}C$ for 3h. 1 ㎏ load was applied in order to contact the specimen with abrading wheel which was wound by 120 mesh SiC paper. The wear loss of the test piece(dimension: $50{\times}50{\times}5$ mm) was measured after one cycle of wear test and this procedure was repeated up to 8 cycles. In all the specimens, the abrasion wear loss was found to decrease in the order of AH, AS, AHFT and AHF states. Abrasion wear loss was lowest in the alloy No.2 and highest in the alloy No.1 except for the as-cast and homogenized condition in which the alloy No.3 showed the highest abrasion wear loss. The lowest abrasion wear loss of the alloy No.2 could be attributed to the fact that it contained primary and eutectic MC carbides, and eutectic $M_2C$ carbide with extremely high hardness. The matrix of each specimen was fully pearlitic in the as-cast state but it was transformed to martensite, tempered martensite and austenite depending upon the type of heat-treatment. From these results, it becomes clear that MC carbide is a significant phase to improve the abrasion wear resistance.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of various methods of dentin bonding agent application and air abrasion pretreatment on microtensile bond strength between dentin and resin, using a self-etching adhesive system. Material and methods: Thirty freshly extracted human molars were obtained and divided into 6 groups of 5 teeth. A 2-step self etching adhesive system (Clearfil SE Bond) was used for all groups. The control specimens were prepared using a direct immediate bonding technique. The delayed dentin sealing specimens were prepared using an indirect approach without dentin prebonding. The immediate dentin sealing specimens were prepared using dentin prebonding immediately following preparation. Immediate dentin sealing teeth and delayed dentin sealing teeth had provisional restorations using Fermit for two weeks. Then all specimens of each group were divided into two groups of three, depending on air abrasion pretreatment. Composite "crowns" were incrementally built on and specimens were stored in water for 24 hours. All teeth were prepared for a microtensile bond strength test. Bond strength data were analyzed with a one-way ANOVA test, and post hoc comparison was done using the Scheffe's test. Results: The mean microtensile bond strengths of all groups were not statistically different from each other. Conclusion: When preparing teeth for indirect restorations, IDS and DDS with Clearfil SE bond, have no difference on the microtensile bond strength between dentin and resin. Air abrasion pretreatment did not affect the microtensile bond strength when using IDS and DDS with Clearfil SE bond.
The curing behavior, mechanical properties, hot-air aging resistance, abrasion properties,thermal properties, etc., of EVM/EPM/APP (ammonium polyphosphate)/DPER (dipentaerythritol)/EG (expandable graphite) and EVM/EPM/ATH (aluminium trihydroxide) flame retarding systems in ethylene vinyl acetate rubber (EVM) blends with EPM (ethylene propylene rubber) were sequentially examined. For both flame retarding systems, the torque values increased with the content of EPM rubber and with the vulcanization time. As the content of EPM rubber increased, the scorch time became shorter, whereas the optimum cure time followed an increasing trend. For the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flameretarding system, as the content of EPM rubber increased, the hardness did not change,whereas the tensile strength and elongation at break decreased. A hot-air aging resistance test at $150^{\circ}C$ showed that the heat resistance decreased with the EPM content regardless of the kinds and contents of flame retardants. As the EPM content increased, the abrasion rate became higher and the abrasion resistance of the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flame retarding systems exceeded that of the EVM/EPM/ATH flame retarding counterparts. In comparison with the EVM/EPM/ATH flame retarding systems, the thermal stability of the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flame retarding system showed an increasing tendency.

PURPOSE. This study investigated the effect of laser parameters and air-abrasion on the peel strength of silicon-based soft denture liner to different denture resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Specimens (N=180) were prepared out of three different denture base resins (Rodex, cross-linked denture base acrylic resin; Paladent, heat-cured acrylic resin; Deflex, Polyamide resin) ($75mm{\times}25mm{\times}3mm$). A silicon-based soft denture liner (Molloplast B) was applied to the denture resins after the following conditioning methods: a) Air-abrasion ($50{\mu}m$), b) Er,Cr:YSGG laser (Waterlase MD Turbo, Biolase Technology) at 2 W-20 Hz, c) Er,Cr:YSGG laser at 2 W-30 Hz, d) Er,Cr:YSGG laser at 3 W-20 Hz, e) Er,Cr:YSGG laser at 3 W-30 Hz. Non-conditioned group acted as the control group. Peel test was performed in a universal testing machine. Failure modes were evaluated visually. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Denture liner tested showed increased peel strength after laser treatment with different parameters ($3.9{\pm}0.4-5.58{\pm}0.6$ MPa) compared to the control ($3.64{\pm}0.5-4.58{\pm}0.5$ MPa) and air-abraded groups ($3.1{\pm}0.6-4.46{\pm}0.3$ MPa), but the results were not statistically significant except for Paladent, with the pretreatment of Er,Cr:YSGG laser at 3 W-20 Hz. Polyamide resin after air-abrasion showed significantly lower peel strength than those of other groups ($3.1{\pm}0.6$ MPa). CONCLUSION. Heat-cured acrylic resin, PMMA, may benefit from Er,Cr:YSGG laser treatment at 3 W-20 Hz irradiation. Air-abrasion of polyamide resins should be avoided not to impair their peel bond strengths to silicon-based soft denture liners.
The purpose of this study was to compare the microleakage of the composite resin cores according to surface treatment, dentin bonding agents, and thermocycling. For this study, 120 extracted premolar teeth were used. Flat occlusal surfaces were prepared with diamond disk, and treated with air-abrasion, acid-etching, combination. The composite resin core was built with Z-100 after application of Scotchbond Multi-Purpose and All-Bond 2. Prepared specimens were thermocycled for 2,000 cycles. Specimens were immersed in 1% methylene blue solution for 24hours at $37^{\circ}C$. The microleakage was measured with a inverted metallurgical microscope(BHS313, Olympus, Japan). The following conclusions were drawn from this study: 1. The microleakages in the groups treated with air-abrasion and with acid etching were greater than that of the groups treated with combination method before thermocycling(p<0.05), the microleakages of the groups treated with air-abrasion were greater than that of the groups treated with acid-etching and combination method after thermocycling(p<0.05) 2. There were no significant difference between groups using Scotchbond Multi-Purpose and the groups using All-Bond 2. 3. Thermocycling didn't affect the change of microleakage in all cases.
This investigation was performed to evaluate the effect of four different preteatment techniques on the bond strength of porcelain to non-precious metal alloy. Samples of total of 40 were divided into 4 groups according to the 4 variables which included the 50$\mu$alumina oxide air abrasion, method, the as retention bead method, the L-retention bead method, the Etching method. The completed metal-porcelain samples were compressed in Instron loading machine until gross fracture occured to examine the effect of the complex variables on the bond strength of porcelain to non precious metal alloy. The result obtained were as follows : 1. The difference of bond strength according to four different pretreatment techniques was statistically significant(p<0.01). 2. The difference of bond strength between the ss-retention bead method and the L-retention bead method was not significant statistically(p>0.05) 3. The difference of bond strength between the retention bead method and the etching method was statistically significant(p<0.01). 4. The difference of bond strength between the retention bead method and the 50$\mu$alumina oxide air abrasion method was statistically significant(p<0.01). 5. The difference of bond strength between the etching method and the 50$\mu$alumina oxide air abrasion method was statistically significant(p<0.01).
The stability of coal pulverizer in the 800 MW coal-fired plants is vital to maintain their performance. Thus, this study analyzed the uneven abrasion of the deflector and coal spillage due to the air velocity maldistribution in the vane wheel of a bowl-type pulverizer as it is a possible cause for problems of facility using pulverized coal. In addition, air flow in the underbowl of a bowl-type pulverizer was studied to check air velocity maldistribution in the vane wheel using numerical method. In an attempt to correct the maldistribution of air velocity, air flow of the modified duct vane was studied as enlarging the length of the duct vanes installed at the air inlet duct of the pulverizer and increasing the angle of inclination. It was found that modified duct vane make the velocity distribution at the vane wheel uniform. formed by the duct vanes installed at the air inlet duct of the pulverizer and swirling flow is the major factor in making the velocity distribution of vane wheel exit uniform. This can prevent the uneven abrasion of the deflector, which is one of the components inside the pulverizer and coal spillage.
