Professional taxi driver exposure to indoor air pollutants has been a subject of concern in recent years because of higher levels of air pollutants, comparing to the surrounding atmosphere. This study evaluated the potential exposure to respirable suspended particulate (RSP), nitrogen dioxide $(NO_2)$ and volatile organic compounds (VOCs; benzene and toluene) for professional taxi drivers inside each of 10 vehicles in Pusan, comparing weekday (Monday and Thursday) and weekend (Saturday). Indoor mean concentrations of RSP inside vehicle were $53.88\;ug/m^3\;and\;75.52\;ug/m^3$ on weekday and weekend, respectively. Measured indoor $NO_2$ concentrations were 28.32ppb and 40.69 ppb, respectively. Benzene and toluene mean concentrations inside vehicle were 5.41 ppb and 11.36 ppb, respectively. Considering no smoking of taxi drivers inside vehicle, closed window in winter, and increased usage of taxi on weekend, source of indoor air pollutants inside taxi might be mainly suggested from the number of passenger's carried, faulty exhaust systems, and engine and carburetor evaporative emissions.

Objectives: Taxi drivers are exposed to various hazards, such as long periods of sedentary work and traffic-related air pollutants. However, studies on the health effects among taxi drivers in South Korea are insufficient. Methods: To assess subclinical hematologic change related to cardiovascular disease among male taxi drivers, we analyzed data from the second Korean National Environmental Health Survey. Fifty-nine taxi drivers and 1,912 controls were included in the analysis. Propensity score matching was performed to adjust for age, body mass index, and urinary cotinine. A total of 295 subjects were matched with 59 taxi drivers. Leukocyte count, platelet count, hematocrit, triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol land total IgE of the taxi drivers were compared with the control groups. Results: Taxi drivers showed significantly elevated blood leukocytes and platelets. Serum total IgE was significantly reduced in taxi drivers. However, blood leukocytes, platelets, and serum total IgE were not significantly correlated with work period among taxi drivers. Conclusions: Regarding the change of the blood leukocyte count, platelet count, and serum total IgE, taxi driving has the possibility to be associated with peripheral inflammation, humoral immunity and cardiovascular risk.

Departure Manager (DMAN) is a tool to optimize the departure sequence and to suggest appropriate take-off time and off-block time of each departure aircraft to the air traffic controllers. To that end, Variable Taxi Time (VTT), which is time duration of the aircraft from the stand to the runway, should be estimated. In this paper, a study for development of VTT prediction algorithm based on machine learning techniques is presented. The factors affecting aircraft taxi speeds were identified through the analysis of historical traffic data on the airport surface. The prediction model suggested in this study consists of several sub-models that reflect different types of surface maneuvers based on the analysis result. The prediction performance of the proposed method was evaluated using the actual operational data.

This paper deals with the operation of air taxis, which is one of the latest innovative technologies aimed at solving the issue of traffic congestion in cities. A key challenge for the successful introduction of the technology and efficient operation is a vertiport location problem. This paper employs a discrete choice model to calculate choice probabilities of transportation modes for each route, taking into account factors such as cost and travel time associated with different modes. Based on this probability, a mathematical formulation to maximize the utilization rate for air taxi is proposed. However, the proposed model is NP-hard, effective and efficient solution methodology is required. Compared to previous studies that simply proposed the optimization models, this study presents a solution methodology using the cross-entropy algorithm and confirms the effectiveness and efficiency of the algorith through numerical experiments. In addition to the academic excellence of the algorithm, it suggests that decision-making that considers actual data and air taxi utilization plans can increase the practial usability.
For the past ten years' efforts have been made to introduce environmentally-friendly "green" electric-taxi and maneuvering airplane systems. The stated purpose of e-taxi systems is to reduce the taxiing fuel expenses, expedite pushback procedures, reduce gate congestion, reduce ground crew involvement, and reduce noise and air pollution levels at large airports. Airplane-based autonomous traction electric motors receive power from airplane's APU(s) possibly supplemented by onboard batteries. Using additional battery energy storages ads significant inert weight. Systems utilizing nose-gear traction alone are often traction-limited posing serious dispatch problems that could disrupt airport operations. Existing APU capacities are insufficient to deliver power for tractive taxiing while also providing for power off-takes. In order to perform comparative and objective analysis of taxi tractive requirements a "standard" taxiing cycle has been proposed. An analysis of reasonably expected tractive resistances has to account for steepest taxiway and runway slopes, taxiing into strong headwind, minimum required coasting speeds, and minimum acceptable acceleration requirements due to runway incursions issues. A mathematical model of tractive resistances was developed and was tested using six different production airplanes all at the maximum taxi/ramp weights. The model estimates the tractive force, energy, average and peak power requirements. It has been estimated that required maximum net tractive force should be 10% to 15% of the taxi weight for safe and expeditious airport movements. Hence, airplanes can be dispatched to move independently if the operational tractive taxi coefficient is 0.1 or higher.
There are policies that foster the drone industry, which either put a legal precedent on drones through the "Drone Act" or grant a delay or exemption in applying the safety measures of "the Aviation Safety Act". Yet, the definition of a drone is unclear, requiring further discussion on commercial usage. Therefore, we have studied cases domestically and abroad, and also analyzed issues with the current aviation legislation. It was found that a drone is defined as "an unmanned aircraft where a pilot is not on board, and its net weight is 150 kg or less". However, there are several issues, such as that a drone taxi requires a pilot on board, and its weight is 150 kg or more. Thus, we propose to define a drone as "an unmanned aerial vehicle (provided, that its own net weight should be 300 kg or under, or not be limited to weight) under Article 2 (3) of the "Aviation Security Act" as prescribed by Ordinance of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, which operates either by remote, automatically, or autonomously; or an unmanned aircraft under Article 2 (6) of the "Aviation Security Act".

Actual driving pattern of each motor vehicle type was measured and analyzed in Seoul area and vehicle emission rate was measured and traffic data were used to estimate vehicular emission factor and motor vehicle-related air pollutant emission. The analysis of contribution ratio of each vehicle type showed that LPG taxi's took 38.1% of total vehicular CO, gasoline passenger cars 37.5%, therefore, these cars are major sources of CO, gasoline passenger cars took 45.4% of total vehicular HC, motorcycles 25.3%, LPG taxi's 16.2%, so motorcycles can be said to play an important role in HC emission. For NOx, buses and trucks were thought to be major sources as buses took 36.8% and truck 26.4%. Diesel vehicles, on the other hand, took most $SO_2$ and particulate matter emission. Total emission from motor vehicles in Seoul was estimated to be 547 t/day of CO, 68t/day of HC, 163t/day of NOx, 18t/day of $SO_2$ and 19t/day of paticulate matter.

UAM(Urban Air Mobility) systems have evolved in the form of helicopters in the 1960~1970s, tiltrotors in the 1980s, small aircraft transportation systems in the 2000s, and electric-powered Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) in the 2010s; accordingly, the early heliport has evolved to its current form of a Vertiport. Vertical Takeoff and Landing Sites, Vertiports, are important factors for the successful introduction of UAM, along with the resolution of air traffic control (ATC), air security, and noise problems. However, there are no domestic or international installation standards and guidelines yet. Therefore, in this study, installation standards were prepared by referring to domestic and international case studies, ICAO standards, and MIT research papers. The study proposes to establish standards for Final Approach and Takeoff Area (FATO) as 1.5D, 1D for Touchdown and Lift-Off Area (TLOF), and 1.5D for Safety Area (SA). It also proposes to add "UAM Vertiport Installation Standards" to the 「Act on the Promotion and Foundation of Drone Utilization, Drone Act」.
Diesel exhaust particles (DEP) contain elemental carbon, organic compounds including Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), metals, and other trace compounds. Diesel exhaust is complex mixture of thousands of chemicals. Over forty air contaminants are recognized as toxicants, such as carcinogens. Most diesel exhaust particles have aerodynamic diameters falling within a range of 0.1 to $0.25{\mu}m$. DEP was classified as a definite human carcinogen (group 1) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer at 2012 based on recently sufficient epidemiological evidence for lung cancer. Significant decreases in DEP and other diesel exhaust constituents will not be evident immediately, and outworn diesel car having longer mileage still threatens health of people in spite of recent remarkable development in diesel engine technology. Policy change in South Korea, such as introduction of diesel taxi, may raise health risk of air pollution in metropolitan area with these limitations of diesel engine. To protect people against DEP in South Korea, progressive strategies are needed, including disallowance of diesel taxi, more strict regulation of diesel engine emission, obligatory diesel particulate filter attachment in outworn diesel car, and close monitoring about health effects of DEP.

We investigated the change of symptoms and preventive behaviors before and after the Asian Dust events among indoor workers (teachers) and outdoor workers (taxi drivers and bus drivers). On February 2004, we recruited 195 taxi drivers, 135 bus drivers and 93 school teachers. Symptoms and behaviors related the Asian Dust events during 1 week were questioned by self administrated questionnaires. We surveyed pre-event and post-event. The symptom were not changed in bus drivers during the events. In taxi drivers and teachers,'Bad or smoky smell on the air' and 'eye congestion' symptoms were increased during the events. The preventive behaviors were decreased or not changed in taxi drivers and bus drivers. In teachers,'close the window','diminishing the outdoor activities', 'diminishing the going out', 'wearing the sunglasses', 'washing the eyes after going out'. This results suggest that the outdoor worker's guideline during the Asian dust eventsneeds to be developed.
