A Study on the Distribution Characteristics and Countermeasures of Concentrations of Ambient PM10 and PM2.5 in Yangju, South Korea

  • This study investigated the distribution behaviors of PM2.5 and PM10 at two air quality monitoring sites, Go-eup (GO) and Backseokeup (BS), located in Yangju City, South Korea. The amounts of emissions sources of pollutants were analyzed based on the Clean Air Policy Support System (CAPSS), and the contribution rates of neighboring cities were enumerated in Yangju. Yangju has a geological basin structure, and it is a city with mixed urban and rural characteristics. The emission concentration of particulate matter was affected by geological and seasonal factors for all sites observed in this study. Therefore, these factors should be considered when establishing policies related to particulate matter. Because the official GO and BS station sites in Yangju are both situated in the southern part of the city, the representativeness of both stations was checked using correlation analysis for the measurement of PM2.5 and PM10 by considering two more sites-those of Bongyang-dong (BY) and the Gumjun (GJ) industrial complex. The data included discharge amounts for business types 4 and 5, which were not sufficiently considered in the CAPSS estimates. Because the 4 and 5 types of businesses represent over 92.6% of businesses in this city, they are workplaces in Yangju that have a significant effect on the total air pollutant emission. These types of businesses should be re-inspected as the main discharge sources in industry, and basic data accumulation should be carried out. Moreover, to manage the emission of particulate matter, attainable countermeasures for the main sources of these emissions should be prepared in a prioritized fashion; such countermeasures include prohibition of backyard burning, supervision of charcoal kilns, and management of livestock excretions and fugitive dust in construction sites and on roads. The contribution rates by neighboring cities was enumerated between 6.3% and 10.9% for PM2.5. Cooperation policies are thought to be required with neighboring cites to reduce particulate matter.

메타분석 방법을 적용한 서울시 대기오염과 조기사망의 상관성 연구 (1991년$\sim$1995년) (A Meta-analysis of Ambient Air Pollution in Relation to Daily Mortality in Seoul, $1991\sim1995$)

  • 유럽과 미국을 비롯한 선진 산업국가에서 1930년에서 1950대 사이에 발생하였던 일련의 대기오염사건을 경험한 이후, 대기오염과 인체건강영향과의 상관성을 평가하려는 체계적인 연구수행이 있어왔다. 국내에서도 최근 2-3년 동안 단면적 연구 설계에서 벗어나 시계열적 분석방법을 적용한 연구결과들이 발표되었으며, 외국에서의 결과와 유사하게 현재 수준의 대기오염도에서도 인체건강영향 특히 조기사망발생과 유의한 상관성이 있음이 제시되었다. 특히 서울시를 대상으로 한 일련의 연구결과가 대기오염도와 일별사망과에 유의한 상관관계가 있음을 보이고 있어 이에 대한 보다 정밀한 연구수행 필요성이 제기되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 메타분석적 방법론을 적용하여 서울시내의 구별분석 결과를 통합하여 기존의 연구결과와 비교함으로써 대기오염과 인체건강영향의 원인적 상관성을 규명하는 보조적 자료를 제공하기 위하여 수행되었다. 대기오염 자동측정기가 설치된 서울시 내 총 18개 구를 대상으로 대기오염도와 사망과의 상관관계를 추정하는 구별 예측치를 산출하였다. 이렇게 산출된 각 개별 예측치는 전체로서 총괄되는 가중평균 예측치를 계산하기 위하여 사용되었으며 이 때 모수효과 모형 또는 랜덤효과 모형을 적용하여 가중평균 예측치를 산출하였다. 지역별 또는 구별 예측치간의 변이차를 검정하는 동질성 검정의 결과 세 오염물질의 경우 모두 지역간 변이가 큰 것으로 평가되었으며 따라서 랜덤효과 모형의 결과를 최종결과로 선정하여 제시하였다. 랜덤효과 모형의 결과를 보면 총부유분진과 아황산가스의 경우 일별사망과 유의한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 평가되었으나 오존의 경우는 그렇지 않았다. 또한 메타분석 결과가 기존의 연구결과와 비교할 때 유사하게 평가된 점으로 미루어 현재 수준의 대기오염도와 일별사망 또는 인체건강영향과 밀접한 상관관계가 있음을 알 수 있다. 메타분석 방법을 적용하였어도 직접적 개인노출평가가 이루어지지 않았다는 점에서 정보편견의 가능성을 제외할 수 없다. 그러나 이러한 메타분석 방법이 기존의 연구(서울시 전체를 대상으로 하는)에 비하여 정보편견을 어느정도 줄여줄 수 있을 것으로 기대되었으며, 분석결과 기존 연구에서 제시하는 것과 매우 유사함을 알 수 있다. 결론적으로 대기오염 역학 연구에 있어서 이와 같은 메타분석적 방법이 유용하며, 본 연구결과도 기존의 연구에서와 같이 현재 수준의 대기오염도가 인체 건강에 위해한 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 보여 준다는 점에서 향후 보다 강화된 대기오염관리 방안 마련의 필요성을 제기한다고 하겠다. 이를 위하여 대기 오염기준치의 강화뿐 아니라 대기오염에 민감한 인구집단, 즉 어린이나 노약자 등에 대한 각별한 감시와 연구수행이 필요시 된다.

남한 지역의 지면 오존 농도 특성과 식생에 대한 임계값 적용 연구 (Study on the Characteristics of Surface Ozone Distributions and the Ozone Critical Levels to Vegetation in the South Korea)

  • Concentration of tropospheric ozone ($O_3$) was investigated for the South Korea. And then the critical ozone levels, expressed as AOT40 (Accumulated exposure over a threshold of 40 ppb) to vegetation have been used in this region within the UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) Convention on Long-Range Trans-boundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP). Hourly ozone concentration data from 1996 to 2001 at 26 air monitoring stations was used to estimate the exceedance of the critical levels. It was calculated for daylight hours for each station, and mapped using surface interpolation over the South Korea. The critical levels of ozone have shown the highly exceeded value in the Gyeonggi region, southern coastal region and central inland of the South Korea. It was some different from the typical ozone distribution which represented highly in the western inland and coastal regions. The area exceeding the critical level for crops was founded to be more than 40% of the whole South Korean territory. While that for trees was to be about 17% of the South Korea. The critical ozone critical level was based upon data from experiments on specific species, and thus may not be fully representative for all types of vegetation. Nevertheless, the critical level and its exceedance of the ozone concentration would be one of the useful tools for international agreements on abatement strategies to prevent ecosystem damage.

대구 안심연료단지 환경오염물질 노출 평가(II) - TSP, PM10, PM2.5 및 중금속 농도분포 및 노출특성 - (Exposure Assessments of Environmental Contaminants in Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex, Daegu(II) - Concentration distribution and exposure characteristics of TSP, PM10, PM2.5, and heavy metals -)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study is to assess airborne particulate matter pollution and its effect on health of residents living near Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex and its vicinities. Also, this study measured and analyzed the concentration of TSP, $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, and heavy metals which influences on the environmental and respiratory disease in Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex, Daegu, Korea. Methods: In this study, we analyzed various environmental pollutants such as particulate matter and heavy metals from Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex that adversely affected local residents's health. In particular, we verified the concentration distribution and characteristics of exposure for TSP, $PM_{10}$, and $PM_{2.5}$ among particulate matters, and heavy metals(Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Fe, Zn, and Mg). In that regard, the official test method on air pollution in Korea for analysis of particulate matter and heavy metal in atmosphere were conducted. The large capacity air sampling method by the official test method on air pollution in Korea were applied for sampling of heavy metals in atmosphere. In addition, we evaluated the concentration of seasonal environmental pollutants for each point of residence in Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex and surrounding area. The sampling measured periods for air pollutants were from August 11, 2013 to February 21, 2014. Furthermore, we measured and analyzed the seasonal concentrations(summer, autumn and winter). Results: The average concentration for TSP, $PM_{10}$, and $PM_{2.5}$ by direct influence area at Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex were 1.7, 1.4 and 1.9 times higher than reference region. In analysis results of seasonal concentrations for particulate matter in four direct influence and reference area, concentration levels for winter were generally somewhat higher than concentrations for summer and autumn. The average concentrations for Cd, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, Fe, and Zn in direct influence area at Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex were $0.0008{\pm}0.0004{\mu}g/Sm^3$, $0.0141{\pm}0.0163{\mu}g/Sm^3$, $0.0248{\pm}0.0059{\mu}g/Sm^3$, $0.0026{\pm}0.0011{\mu}g/Sm^3$, $0.0272{\pm}0.0084{\mu}g/Sm^3$, $0.4855{\pm}0.1862{\mu}g/Sm^3$, and $0.3068{\pm}0.0631{\mu}g/Sm^3$, respectively. In particularly, the average concentrations for Cd, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, Fe, and Zn in direct influence area at Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex were 1.9, 3.6, 2.1, 1.9, 1.4, 2.6, and 1.2 times higher than reference area, respectively. The continuous monitoring and management were required for some heavy metals such as Cr and Ni. Moreover, the average concentration in winter for particulate matter in direct influence area at Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex were generally higher than concentrations in summer and autumn. Also, average concentrations for TSP, $PM_{10}$, and $PM_{2.5}$ were from 1.5 to 2.0 times, 1.2 to 1.8 times, and 1.1 to 2.3 times higher than reference area, respectively. In results for seasonal atmospheric environment, TSP, $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, and heavy metal concentrations in direct influence area were higher than reference area. Especially, the concentrations in C station were a high level in comparison with other area. Conclusions: In the results, some particulate matters and heavy metals were relatively high concentration, in order to understand the environmental pollution level and health effect in surrounding area at Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex. The concentration of some heavy metals emitted from direct influence area at Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex were relatively higher than reference area. In particular, average concentration for heavy metals in this study were higher than average concentrations in air quality monitoring station for heavy metal for 7 years in Deagu metropolitan region. Especially, the residents near Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex may be exposed to the pollutants(TSP, $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, and heavy metals, etc) emitted from the factories in Ansim Briquette Fuel Complex.

서울시 PM10과 PM2.5의 공간적 분포 변이분석 (The Variation Analysis on Spatial Distribution of PM10 and PM2.5 in Seoul)

  • 미세먼지는 대기오염 중 심각한 질병을 야기할 수 있는 대기오염 원인물질이다. 이에 대부분의 연구는 위성영상을 활용하거나 모델링 기법을 이용하여 지역적 미세먼지 분포경향을 분석하였다. 하지만 측정소값을 기준으로 공간보간기법을 적용하여 분석하는 방법은 국내에서 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 서울시 39개의 미세먼지 측정망을 기준으로 2018년도 서울시의 1월, 2월, 3월, 4월 $PM_{10}$$PM_{2.5}$의 월별 공간적인 분포 변이를 분석하였다. 또한 본 연구를 통해 얻어진 분포도를 기반으로 $PM_{10}$$PM_{2.5}$의 차이값을 보여주는 분포도를 제작하였으며, $PM_{10}$의 배출량이 많은 지역과 $PM_{2.5}$의 배출량이 많은 지역을 선정하였다. 또한 $PM_{10}$$PM_{2.5}$의 분포를 비율로 계산하여 분포지도를 제작함으로 각 지역별 $PM_{10}$$PM_{2.5}$의 상호관계를 확인하였다. 본 연구는 공간분석 기법을 통하여 서울시 $PM_{10}$$PM_{2.5}$를 분석하는 공간적 분포변이 결과를 해석하였다. 본 연구의 결과 $PM_{10}$은 도로변 측정소에 높은 측정값을 나타내는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

서울시 토지이용과 교통량에 따른 미세먼지의 공간분포 (Spatial distribution of particulate matters in comparison with land-use and traffic volume in Seoul, Republic of Korea)

  • 서울시의 대기오염을 지속적으로 모니터링하기 위해, 그동안 환경부는 운영하고 있는 대기오염 측정망을 지속적으로 발전시켜왔다. 측정되는 대기오염 물질 중 미세먼지는 인체에 상당한 영향을 미치는데, 우리나라의 오염도는 OECD 국가 중에서도 두 번째로 높은 편이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 측정된 미세먼지 농도 자료를 이용하여 서울시의 미세먼지 분포도를 PM10과 PM2.5에 대해 작성하고, 미세먼지 농도의 분포에 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상되는 공간적인 요인들과의 관계를 조사하였다. 반경 500m의 원을 포함하는 헥사곤을 기준단위로 하여 서울 전역을 구획화하고 보간법 중 거리반비례기법을 이용하여 미세먼지 농도분포도를 작성하였다. 출, 퇴근 시간대의 미세먼지 농도분포를 지역별로 분석하고, 토지이용도 및 교통량과의 관계를 분석하였다. 분석결과, PM10과 PM2.5의 농도분포는 지역별, 시간대별로 각기 다른 패턴을 나타내었고, 토지이용형태 측면에서는 상업지역 및 교통지역의 면적이 미세먼지 농도분포와 높은 관련성을 보였으며, 녹지의 유무도 농도의 분포 변화에 관계가 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 추후 세부적인 토지이용도 및 녹지분포도 등을 통하여 상관관계를 분석하면 미세먼지의 농도에 영향을 미치는 지역 수준에서의 공간요소를 밝히는데 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

서울시 지하철 2호선 본선구간의 입자상물질 농도 특성 및 미세분진의 오염지도 개발 (Characterizing Par ticle Matter on the Main Section of the Seoul Subway Line-2 and Developing Fine Particle Pollution Map)

  • In present, the Seoul City is undergoing traffic congestion problems caused by rapid urbanization and population growth. Thus the City government has reorganized the mass transportation system since 2004 and the subway has become a very important means for public transit. Since the subway system is typically a closed environment, the indoor air quality issues have often raised by the public. Especially since a huge amount of PM (particulate matter) is emitted from ground tunnels passing through the subway train, it is now necessary to assess the characteristics and behaviors of fine PM inside the tunnel. In this study, the concentration patterns of $PM_1$, $PM_{2.5}$, and $PM_{10}$ in the Seoul subway line-2 were analyzed by real-time measurement during winter (Jan 13, 2015) and summer (Aug 7, 2015). The line-2 consisting of 51 stations is the most busy circular line in Seoul having the railway of 60.2 km length. The the one-day average $PM_{10}$ concentrations were $148{\mu}g/m^3$ in winter and $66.3{\mu}g/m^3$ in summer and $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations were $118{\mu}g/m^3$ and $58.5{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. The $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$ ratio in the underground tunnel was lower than the outdoor ratio and also the ratio in summer is higher than in winter. Further the study examined structural types of underground subsections to explain the patterns of elevated PM concentrations in the line-2. The subsections showing high PM concentration have longer track, shorter curvature radius, and farther from the outdoor stations. We also estimated the outdoor PM concentrations near each station by a spatial statistical analysis using the $PM_{10}$ data obtained from the 40 Seoul Monitoring Sites, and further we calculated $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$ and $PM_1/PM_{10}$ mass ratios near the outdoor subway stations by using our observed outdoor $PM_1$, $PM_{2.5}$, and $PM_{10}$ data. Finally, we could develop pollution maps for outdoor $PM_1$ and $PM_{2.5}$ near the line-2 by using the kriging method in spatial analysis. This methodology may help to utilize existing $PM_{10}$ database when managing and control fine particle problems in Korea.

현장측정에 기초한 대기오염물질의 측정방식에 대한 비교연구-주요 기준성 오염물질을 중심으로 (Evaluation of Analytical Techniques for Some Gaseous Criteria Pollutants through a Field Measurement Campaign in Seoul, Korea)

  • To properly assess air pollution levels, application of quality assurance and quality control(QA/QC) is believed to be an essential step. In order to cope with such scientific principle, a field study was designed with an aim of comparing: 1) the methods of calibration for airborne pollutants and 2) the protocols developed for their measurements. Measurements were made at Han Yang University, Seoul during 29 May through 1 June 1998 under the management of the Division of Measurements and Analysis(DMA) of Korean Society for Atmospheric Environment(KOSAE). In this work, we report our results of intercomparative measurements on several gaseous criteria pollutants that were investigated mainly by the two institutes-Seoul National University(SNU) and the Korean Research Institute for Standards and Science(KRISS). Although measurements of major gaseous pollutants had been made routinely by many scientific institutes and organizations in Korea, most scientists involved in those studieswere obliged to do their experiments on the basis of their own procedural steps spaning from the preparation of gaseous standards to the methodological selections for the calibration. Hence, this campaign offered a unique opportunity to examine many important aspects on the measurements of these important gaseous pollutants. In the course of our study, we investigated the compatibility of data sets obtained by the two institutes in concert with reference data sets collected concurrently from a government-managed monitoring station. On the basis of our study, we conclude that different data sets made by different participants during this campaign agree well within the reasonable range of uncertainties.low, which indicated that during this period the potential acidity of precipitation was high but the neutralizing capacity was low. For Spring, pAi was very low but pH was slightly high. This was likely due to the large amount of $CaCO_3$ in the soil particles transported over a long range from the Chinese continent that were incorporated into the precipitation, and then neutralized the acidifying species with its high concentraton.

대구지역 대기환경용량 산정에 관한 연구 (An Evaluation of Atmospheric Environmental Capacity in Daegu)

  • This study aims to implement the modeling of selected substances for the evaluation of Atmospheric Environmental Capacity by means of the data of 2006 atmospheric pollution substance emissions. As a result, it turned out that the substance with the concentration higher than Atmospheric Environmental standard concentration was NO2, and 17.6% of the total regions researched turned out to exceed the standard concentration. In addition, set was the targeted amount to be reduced in the areas where the upper limit of emission per unit lattice was exceeded, and the model was adopted accordingly. As a result, it turned out that about 80% of the actual emission should be reduced to meet the 2006 Atmospheric Environmental standard over the Daegu. In reality, it is impossible to reduce 80% of the actual emission. Thus, the same ratio of reduction was applied in all of the Daegu regions, and the modeling was applied. The results are as follows: When 30% was reduced, the level went down to 50 ppb, which is as high as 2006 Atmospheric Environmental standard; when 50% was reduced, the level went down to 30 ppb, which is as high as 2007 Atmospheric Environmental standard.

단지조성공사 내 드론을 활용한 GIS 맵핑 기반 미세먼지 측정 시스템 기초 연구 (Preliminary Study on GIS Mapping-based Fine Dust Measurement in Complex Construction Site)

  • 드론을 활용한 미세먼지 측정은 산업의 발달과 함께 점차 보편화 되고 있으며, 일부 산업 지대에서 미세먼지 모니터링으로 대기 오염원을 파악한다. 건설 공사 현장에서는 현장사무소에 미세먼지 측정소를 따로 마련하여 주변 공인 측정소보다 현장의 미세먼지 농도를 파악할 수 있다. 그러나, 미세먼지를 발생시키는 오염원으로부터 미세먼지 측정을 정확하게 파악하기는 어려우므로 현장 오염원에 가깝게 직접 투입하여 미세먼지 농도를 측정하여 정확성을 높이고자 하였다. 미세먼지측정치가 부착된 드론은 착륙 중에 발생하는 하향풍 영향으로 측정 노이즈가 발생하였으나 높이 30m에서, 맵핑을 진행하였을 때, 오염원의 수치와 유사하게 측정이 되었다. 실험 대상지역에 대한 현장 적용성은 평탄화 작업이 많아 지형이 지속적으로 바뀌기 때문에 위성영상을 활용한 주기적인 업데이트 정보에는 한계가 있었다. 특히, 절토 작업구간에서 위성지도의 정보는 드론의 맵핑 구역과 미세먼지 농도가 지형에 중첩되어 정확한 구현을 위해서는 맵핑도 함께 반영되어야 한다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 드론을 활용한 GIS 맵핑을 통해 실시간 현장 정보를 반영할 수 있는 시스템을 구현하였다.
