  • This paper presents a design of novel 2-phase 6/5 switched reluctance motor (SRM) for an air-blower application. This type of motor is suitable for the applications that require high speed and only one directional rotation as air-blower. The desired air-blower is unidirectional application, and requires a wide positive torque region without torque dead-zone. In order to get a wide positive torque region without torque dead-zone during phase commutation, asymmetric inductance characteristic with non-uniform air-gap is considered. The proposed motor can be operated at any rotor position. The proposed 6/5 SRM uses short flux path technique that achieved by means of winding configuration and lamination geometry. The purpose of short flux path is to reduce the core loss and the absorption MMF in the stator. The proposed 2-phase 6/5 SRM is verified by finite element method (FEM) analysis and Matlab-Simulink. In order to verify the design, a prototype of the proposed motor was manufactured for practical system.

  • In this paper, a simple fabrication technique of an air-bridge for interconnection of isolated electrodes of microwave active and passive devices and MMIC's is proposed. The proposed air-bridge proceses are mainly combinations of thermal evaporation, positive photoresist and image reversal processes for easy lift-off of up to 2.0 .mu.m thick metal. According to the resutls of air-birdge processes, it is confirmed that air-gap and thickness of theair-bridge are about 3.5.mu.m, and 2.0.mu.m, respectively. And it is also possible to make the fine air-bridge with widths of 5~60.mu.m and post-intervals of 25~200.mu.m withot collapse. finally, GaAs power MESFET's and rectangular spiral inductors are fabricatd and measured in order to confirm of feasibility of the proposed air-bridge processes. The MAG of the fabricated power MESFET's is 10dB at 10GHz, and the inductance of the (200.mu. * 6 turns) rectangular spiral inductors 4.5 nH inX-band.

  • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane is widely used for water treatment. However, the weak mechanical strength of PVDF limits its application. To enhance its tensile strength, a double-layer composite hollow fiber membrane, with PVDF and polyetherimide as the external and inner layers, respectively, was successfully prepared through phase inversion technique. The effects of additive content, air gap distance, N,N-dimethyl-acetamide content in the inner core liquid, and the temperature of external coagulation bath on the membrane structure, permeation flux, rejection, tensile strength, and porosity were determined. Experimental results showed that the optimum preparation conditions for the double-layer composite hollow fiber membrane were as follows: PEG-400 and PEG-600, 5 wt%; air gap distance, 10 cm; inner core liquid and the external coagulation bath should be water; and temperature of the external coagulation bath, 40 C. A single layer PVDF hollow fiber membrane (without PEI layer) was also prepared under optimum conditions. The double-layer composite membrane remarkably improved the tensile strength compared with the single-layer PVDF hollow fiber membrane. The permeation flux, rejection, and porosity were also slightly enhanced. High-tensile strength hollow fiber PVDF ultrafiltration membrane can be fabricated using the proposed technique.

  • A technique is investigated for achieving broadband properties by controlling the operation frequency of microstrip antennas. The control is achieved by applying DC and AC bias to the microstrip antenna. Air gap antenna with pzt post and microstrip antenna with simple rectangular patch on the $LiNbO_3$ substrate were fabricated. In the case of Air gap antenna, the variation of operating frequency was 11Mhz and $LiNbO_3$ antennas was 11Mhz. Also, frequency scanning was achieved by appling AC bias.

  • Actuator (chopper) and sensors failures resulting from electric shock and mechanical vibration generating by rail irregularities are the serious problem deteriorating the performance in the electromagnetic suspension systems. Thus, this paper proposes the reliable output feedback controller for the electromagnetic levitation systems against actuator, air-gap sensor and acceleration sensor failures. The designed controller is an extend version of a novel design technique which has the design method of the output feedback controller using dynamic compensator. The benefits of this scheme are demonstrated through the experimental results for the proposed controller against chopper, air-gap sensor and acceleration sensor failures of electromagnetic levitation system.

  • In this paper, a method for detecting broken rotor bar and stator winding fault in a low voltage squirrel-case induction motor using an air-gap flux variation analysis is proposed to develop a simple and low cost diagnosis technique. To measure the leakage flux in radial direction, a radial flux sensor is designed as a search coil and installed between stator slots. The proposed method is able to identify two kinds of motor faults by calculating load condition of motors and monitoring abnormal signals those are related with motor faults. Experimental results obtained on 7.5kW three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors are discussed to verify the performance of the proposed method.

  • Band gap energies of SrTiO$_3$(STO) thin film on glass substrates were studied in terms of annealing temperature. The STO thin film was fabricated by our newly developed method based on the combination of the Self-Assembled Monolayer(SAM) technique and the Liquid Phase Deposition(LPD) method. The as-deposited film demonstrated a direct band gap energy of about 3.65 eV, which further increased to 3.73 eV and 3.78 eV by annealing at 40$0^{\circ}C$ and 50$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The band gap energy saturated at about 3.70 eV for the crystallized film which was obtained by annealing at 600-$700^{\circ}C$. The relatively large band gap energies of our crystallized films were due to the presence of minor amorphous phase, grain boundaries and oxygen vacancies generated by annealing in air.

  • New nondestructive inspection (NDI) technique to detect the defect in metal was developed in which an electromagnetic field is induced in a metal by AC current flowing in the magnetic coil and the leak magnetic-flux disturbed by defects is measured using a tape-recorder head with air gap. This technique can be applied in evaluating the location and sizing of surface defects in components of the ferromagnetic body by means of the non-contacting measurement. In this paper, we have applied this technique to the evaluation of two-dimensional surface cracks in ferromagnetic metal, and also investigated the influence of the various frequencies and lift-off. Defects were detected with maximum values in the distribution of voltage and it was found that the maximum values tend to increase with the defect depth. Although the maximum values for defects are affected by the frequency and lift-off, the depth of small defects can be estimated from the linear relationship between the depth and voltage rate$(V_0/V_{ave})$.

  • The characteristics of leader development in rod -to- plane air gap (20cm gap length) under positive impulse potentials have been studied by means of 2-photomultiplier technique and image intensifier camera. It was shown that the streamers radiate relatively short wavelength light (${\sim}340nm$) while the leaders radiate a plenty of long wave length light ($400{\sim}800nm$). It was also known that the streamers propagate very fast with a velocity of $6{\times}l0^7cm/sec$ but the leaders have average velocity of $5{\times}10^6cm/sec$ and they proceed gradually fast by step-wise development.

  • This paper proposes a technique to design of air-core type Linear DC Motor(LDM) by using Equivalent Magnetizing Current(EMC) method and has performed its dynamic analysis. The magnetic flux density differ in accordance with airgap position due to difference of mechanical and magnetic air gap length and the coil shape has an influence on the thrust. Therefore, the analysis of magnetic field due to the magnets is carried out by EMC. The phenomena according to the various coil various coil shape under the same Magneto Motive Force(MMF) has been analyzed and its result is applied to the design process. The appropriateness of the proposed technique is confirmed by Finite Element Method(FEM) and its dynamic analysis is carried out from the coupling of the electrical circuit equation and mechanical kinetic equation.
