  • For a R134a rotary vane compressor used for car air conditioners, characteristics of gas compression and oil supply have been studied. The compressor model under investigation has the low volume ratio of suction to discharge volumes so that there occur flow reversal from discharge port to compression chamber as the leading vane passes over the discharge port. As a result, the volumetric and adiabatic efficiencies turn out to be relatively low compared to other types of displacement compressors. Oil supply mechanism has been comprehended for mathematical modeling and oil flow rate has been calculated for the individual oil passages. This study on the gas compression and oil supply of a rotary vane compressor can be applied to a future design practice on a similar type of compressor.

  • In process of reinforced concrete (RC) box structure, the heat of hydration may cause serious thermal cracking. This paper reports results of hydration heat control in mass concrete using the oscillating heat pipe. There were three RC box molds ($1.2m{\times}1.8m{\times}2.4m$) which were different from each other. One was not equipped with pulsating heat pipe. The others were equipped with pulsating heat pipe. All of them were cooled with natural air convection. The pulsating heat pipe was composed of 10 turns of serpentine type copper pipe whose outer and inner diameters were 4 and 2.8 mm respectively. The working fluid was R-22 and charging ratio was 40% by volume. The temperature of the concrete core was approximately $55^{\circ}C$ in the winter without pulsating heat pipe. For a concrete with pulsating heat pipe, however, the temperature difference with the outdoor one reduced up to $12^{\circ}C$. The index figure of crack was varied from 0.75 to 1.38.

  • The objective of this study is to propose basic design guidelines for more effective air ventilation system in apartments. It is well known that ventilation depends on whether the room doors are open or closed as well as people's living patterns. This study considers 84 ㎡-sized apartment which has extended living room without balcony. Ventilation of bathroom and kitchen is not considered. The height of the building, external air pressure and air infiltration through the windows are also neglected. The regulation on indoor air quality made it mandatory that the air change per hour be more than 0.7. Four models are suggested to study the effect of open and closed doors. Models 1 and 3 are open door types and models 2 and 4 are closed door types. The open types have 50 mm hole near the top of the door to substitute exhaust outlet. The ventilation effectiveness was evaluated by 3-dimensional numerical simulation using finite volume method by a commercial software. This work compares air flow, temperature of air, age of air and the efficiency of ventilation of apartments with wooden doors of bedroom 1 and 2, which are open or closed.

  • In this study, for the prediction of energy consumption in the ventilator, one of the components of the air conditioning system, the predicted results were analyzed and accurate by the change in the number of neurons and inputs. The input variables of the prediction model for the energy volume of the fan were the supply air flow rate, the exhaust air flow rate, and the output value was the energy consumption of the fan. A predictive model has been developed to study with the Levenbarg-Marquardt algorithm through 8760 sets of one-minute resolution. Comparison of actual energy use and forecast results showed a margin of error of less than 1% in all cases and utilization time of less than 3% with very high predictability. MBE was distributed with a learning period of 1.7% to 2.95% and a service period of 2.26% to 4.48% respectively, and the distribution rate of ${\pm}10%$ indicated by ASHRAE Guidelines 14 was high.8.
