  • Background: Korean Red Ginseng extract (RGE) has been reported to act as an inflammasome modulator. Ginsenosides, saponin molecules of RGE, selectively inhibit activation of NLRP3 and AIM2 inflammasomes, while non-saponin molecules of RGE upregulate inflammasome components associated with the initiation of NLRP3 inflammasome activation. In this study, we investigated the effect of non-saponin components of RGE on AIM2 inflammasome activation. Methods: The role of non-saponins of RGE on AIM2 inflammasomes was tested in mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages, a human monocyte-like cell line, and a mouse animal model. Cells or mice were transfected with dsDNA or inoculated with Listeria monocytogenes to activate AIM2 inflammasomes. Several indices of inflammasome activation were examined via immunoblot or ELISA analysis. Results: The non-saponin fraction and saponin-eliminating fraction (SEF) of RGE selectively attenuated the activation of AIM2 inflammasomes, but not that of NLRP3 or NLRC4 inflammasomes. Fructose-arginine, an amino-sugar, was shown to be effective against AIM2 inflammasome activation. Conclusion: Non-saponins of RGE, such as fructose-arginine, might be effective in regulating infectious and autoimmune diseases resulting from AIM2 inflammasome activation.

  • Simulation techniques are used to improve the productivity of a textile factory. A simulation model is developed for the analysis of investment for dyeing process equipment, such as dryers and bleachers. For modeling and analysis, AIM (Analyzer for Improving Manufacturing) is used. AIM is a manufacturing oriented simulation software developed by Pritsker Corp. AIM provides interactive model building and simulation, automatic animation, and powerful graphic outputs. thereby, drastically reducing modeling efforts and also enhancing communication capabilities.

  • The What-If-Not strategy as proposed by Brown & Walter (1969) is one of the most effective strategies for problem posing. However, it has focused only on the aspect of algorithms for generating problems. The aim of this strategy and how it is used to accomplish the aim of the challenging phase are not clear. We need to clarify the aim of the What-If-Not strategy and to establish the process of the strategy for accomplishing the aim. The purpose of this article is to offer a new What-If-Not strategy by clarifying the aim of the challenging phase.

  • With mobile-epoch and emerging of Fin-tech, Bio-recognition technology utilizing bio-information in secure method has spread. Specially, In order to change convenient payment services and transportation cards, the combination of biometrics and mobile services are being expanded. The basic concept of authentication such as access control, IA&A, OpenID, OAuth 1.0a, SSO, and Biometrics techniques are investigated, and the protocol stack for security API platform, FIDO, SCIM, OAuth 2.0, JSON Identity Suite, Keystone of OpenStack, Cloud-based SSO, and AIM Agent are described detailed in aspect of application of AIM. The authentication technology in domestic and foreign will accelerate technology development and research of standardization centered in the federated FIDO Universal Authentication Framework(UAF) and Universal 2 Factor Framework(U2F). To accommodate the changing needs of the social computing paradigm recently in this paper, the trends of various authentication technology, and design and function of AIM framework was defined.

  • This study investigated the effect of the Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) microfinancing on the economic, social, and household empowerment of women borrowers in Malaysia. The study used a quantitative approach based on primary data. For this study, the participants comprised 384 AIM borrowers from Terengganu, Kelantan, and Pahang in the east coast region of Malaysia. Purposive stratified random sampling was used as well as the Krejcie and Morgan method to count the number of samples. Descriptive statistics and the Women Empowerment Index (WEI) were used in the analysis. The study findings reveal that AIM microfinancing affects the economic, social, and household empowerment of women borrowers in Malaysia. However, in comparing the three categories, women enjoyed more freedom in social and household decision-making than in economic decision-making. The present study recommends policies for the successful and effective operation of microfinance programs by providing the necessary guidelines for the control of AIM loan for women borrowers; increasing income-generating activities, sufficient access of credit, and proper education for the borrowers; and giving economic freedom of choice with necessary skill training policymaking options for the government and NGOs with the aim to improve the total household income and empowerment of the microcredit borrowers in Malaysia.

  • What is the aim of mathematics education? Current aims of mathematics education often lack the multidimensionality needed to account for a successful experience in mathematics. In this short paper, we argue for a multidimensional aim of mathematics education via the construct of flourishing. Flourishing is derived from the notion of eudaimonia, which broadly refers to achieving the "highest good," or living a well-lived life. Building on prior research, we operationalize flourishing as an aggregate of several positive affective, behavioral, cognitive, and social traits, all of which contribute to students' propensities to achieve the "highest good" in mathematics. In particular, we propose five traits which contribute to students' propensities to achieve the "highest good" (i.e., flourish) in mathematics: (1) positive emotions toward mathematics; (2) engagement in mathematics; (3) community in mathematics; (4) meaning in mathematics; (5) perceived competence in mathematics. Thus, we argue that one productive aim of mathematics education is to support students in fulfilling each of these traits, which ultimately leads to flourishing in mathematics. To supplement our theoretical stance, we offer suggestions for measuring flourishing as an aim. We close this short paper by describing the implications that such an aim might suggest for pedagogy, policy, and research.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the factor that causes the difference on understanding the aim and perception of laboratory activities between teachers and students. For this study, in-depth interview was conducted for sixth grade students and teachers of 10 classes. The questionnaire of the interview can be divided into 3 sections: the aim of laboratory activities, whether teachers present the aim of laboratory activities, the method of laboratory class progress and the evaluation method. The factors that bring about the difference between the teachers and the students on perception of the aim are the absence of proper guidance on the aim of laboratory activities, the laboratory classes that the progress out of teachers' intention and evaluation method that is the performed without any relationship with the aim of the laboratory activities. Because the teacher-intended aim of laboratory activities is not properly presented, students can't percept the accurate aim. Even though teachers recognize the importance of the improvement of science process skill acquired through laboratory activities, this is not delivered practically in the class and students also can't percept the importance of science process skill.
