  • Recently, with the improvement of national income, the increase of int e rest in the consumers, health, and the enhancement of recognition of environment the demands of environmental-friendly agricultural products(EFAPs) are on the rise rapidly. The demand in the market for EFAPs increases rapidly, and the sales amount increases by 30~40% every year. But, it is in situation that the EFAPs arc not distributed well between the producers and consumers now. That is, the producers of EFAPs can not End th e ir markets. And, the consumers do not trust the EFAPs. Also, it is in situation that it is difficult to promote the demand because of relatively higher prices than the general agricultural products. To solve these problems, it may be summed up as follows. First, it needs to reduce the distribution cost by the construction of stable supply basis. Second, it needs to improve the distribution system of EFAPs. Third, it needs to enhance the differentiation and improve the consumers, reliability. Fourth, it needs to make in brand and extend the various publicities. Fifth, it needs to construct the supporting system and enhance the cooperation with the related institutions. Sixth, it needs to End new demand and introduce the procurement system by the government.

  • Auxin-binding protein 57 ($ABP_{57}$), a soluble auxin-binding protein, acts as a receptor to activate plasma membrane (PM) $H^+-ATPase$. Here, we report the cloning of abp57 and the biochemical characterization of its protein expressed in E. coli. The analysis of internal amino acid sequences of $ABP_{57}$ purified from rice shoots enabled us to search for the corresponding gene in protein DB of NCBI. Further BLAST analysis showed that rice has four abp57-like genes and maize has at least one homolog. Interestingly, Arabidopsis seems to have no homolog. Recombinant $ABP_{57}$ expressed in E. coli caused the activation of PM $H^+-ATPase$ regardless of the existence of IAA. Scatchard analysis showed that the recombinant protein has relatively low affinity to IAA as compared to natural $ABP_{57}$. These results collectively support the notion that the cloned gene is responsible for $ABP_{57}$.

  • The aim of this study is to assess the potential for fusion and convergence in industrial agriculture. First, we analyzed the types of industrial agriculture and applied the agri-business and ICT agriculture. After then, we analyzed the Project Potential Index (PPI) of the agri-business and ICT agriculture using the agricultural enterprise database provided from Rural Research Institute in Korea. The results revealed that Haenam have a high potential for agri-business project because of large number of farmers and annual sales. Wanju was considered as the suitable place for ICT agriculture project because of large area of greenhouse. This study was applied only 7 study area but the methodology suggested in this study could be widely used for assessing potential project various types of industrial agriculture.

  • If the new town development project begins with inappropriate location then it will be difficult to recruit tenants and the proportion of the infrastructure cost could increase. It is necessary to evaluate the feasibility of the new town development projects to solve this problem. This study aims to identify the current status of the new town development projects and draw up evaluation criteria by examining advanced researches. To identify the importance of each village, we set up the weights through analytic hierarchy process. The evaluation criteria were classified into location conditions and economical efficiency. In the case of location conditions, it was classified into available size, geographical conditions, and accessibility. As a result of analyzing the questionnaire, it was subdivided into officially assessed land prices in case of economic efficiency. This study had some limitations, that is we focused on the location conditions and economic feasibility among other factors. Therefore further study should contain analysis more on socio-cultural aspects such as residents' cooperation or will for this project. By adding results later, we can make more reasonable decisions when we choose appropriate area.

  • The purpose of the present study is to improve the effectiveness of Korea's ODA projects on agricultural technology transfer to Africa. This study investigates agricultural extension system of African countries and provides a direction of the systematic strategies of the Korean ODAs on agricultural technology. This study pays particular attention on Africanization of agricultural technology transfer of the Korean ODA strategies. Unlike the previous studies focusing mainly on micro level investigation on the ODA strategy development, the present study incorporates the agricultural technology dissemination system of Ethiopia and Uganda in a macro perspective to develop a desirable form of the ODA strategy. The findings illustrate that the technology dissemination systems of the case countries have different characteristics depending on the function and organization of extension agency. And their functional capability and role segmentation by the extension agency are differently configured, too. In case of Ethiopia, top-down structure for the agricultural extension system has been built. Farmers' group and field agent of the information delivery system has expanded their participation into the system. However, we also find that the system of Ethiopia still lacks effective use of its existing technology, since it puts more emphasis on management aspects than improvement of agricultural productivity for farmers. On the other hand, even though Uganda has established participatory extension system that encompasses the entire agencies of the extension system, government efforts to enhance the extension system are still concentrated on expanding research functions rather than technical dissemination. The results imply that promoting and strengthening localization of the ODA strategy has to be developed to make localization policy of the Korean ODA. The present study concludes with some specific policy implications for necessary conditions of the agricultural development in African countries.

  • The export of agricultural, fisheries, and food products acts as an engine of growth for developing countries in particular. However, exporting these items is easier said than done since issues of certification and inspection, so-called technical barriers to trade (TBT) and sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS), in developed markets have worked as major obstacles for exports. This paper examines the institutional aspects and recent trends of South Korea's TBT/SPS-related cases against exporting firms of the developing countries. We suggest a win-win partnership model that can promote cooperative synergies between Korea and developing employing trade-related technical cooperation or ODA (Official Development Aid). Technical cooperation such as the provision of on-spot field consulting services on TBT/SPS-related issues for exporting firms and Korean OEM firms of developing countries can lead to mutual gains. This cooperative partnership can create gains from "the trade-development nexus" for both sides while promoting sustainable trade and investment relationships between Korea and developing countries.

  • Until now, research on inter-Korean economic cooperation and economic integration has been limited to the areas of the two Koreas. However, Korea is connected with many countries in Asia through the global value chain. Thus, if inter-Korean trade deepens, it may affect the trade structure of neighboring countries. In order to establish a specific inter-Korean economic integration policy when North Korea becomes a normal state in the future, an analysis that reflects the trade structure including Northeast Asia must be preceded. Therefore, in this paper, the impact of inter-Korean trade on Korea, China and Japan was analyzed using the international input and output table containing actual trade data. The scope of analysis was limited to agriculture, reflecting North Korea's demand for economic cooperation. The results show that trade in the agricultural sector between the two Koreas did not have a significant effect of production and value added. but when China and Japan participate in trade with North Korea, the production effect was calculated to be as high as 4 million dollars in Korea and up to 10 million dollars in Japan. And China showed up to 520 million dollars. In addition, the value-added effect was calculated up to $1 million in Korea, up to $4 million in Japan, and up to $250 million in China.

  • The rapid growth of world population, reduction of cultivated areas for crop production, and detrimental effects of pests, diseases, and climate changes have required to breed new rice cultivars with high yield, accepted quality, but strong resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses. However, traditional breeding needs much time to breed a new cultivar, whereas the successful use of molecular breeding is still questionable. We have developed a novel mutation which allow to cross many rice cultivars together with low segregation, that allow to breed a new cultivar in only several cropping. The mechanism has been unknown, but we suggest that gene linkage may play a crucial role, of which the semi dwarf gene might be the center gene for gene linkage occurrence. The phenomenon of this possible gene linkage is contrary to Mendel rules, but it is promising to breed new rice cultivars, of which, the most elite genes in rice might be able to gather in a targeted rice variety.
