  • This study focuses on the policy priorities for training agro-healing experts. Training agro-healing experts is an important task that should boost local community in rural areas. In order to make an efficient decision making, the study analyses priority of relevant policies using the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. According to the results, R&D comes out first. Human Resource Development(HRD), financial support, and the construction of legal system comes after R&D. In R&D, qualifications and guidelines for participants comes out the most significant issue. In the aspect of HRD, it is very important to develop and utilize regional personnel such as unemployed youth and retirees from related fields. As for financial support, funding for educational facilities (i.e. classrooms and farmland for practice) is needed. In case of legal system, it is desirable to introduce the recruiting experts system and qualification system certified by government.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a standardized scheme for providing agriculture-related information at various spatial resolutions of satellite images including Landsat +ETM, KOMPSAT-1 EOC, ASTER VNIR, and IKONOS panchromatic and multi-spectral images. The satellite images were interpreted especially for identifying agricultural areas, crop types, agricultural facilities and structures. The results were compared with the land cover/land use classification system suggested by Ministry of Construction & Transportation based on NGIS (National Geographic Information System) and Ministry of Environment based on satellite remote sensing data. As a result, high-resolution agricultural land cover map from IKONOS imageries was made out. The results by IKONOS image will be provided to KOMPSAT-2 project for agricultural application.

  • Recently a strong request for the improvement in irrigation water management in order to flexibly meet the spacial and time changes of water demand for agricultural and other uses by saving agricultural water. Thereby, the purpose of this study is to design of Basin Water Management Program(BWMP). BWMP is operate with Open Control System. Accordingly, BMWP is easy to acquire data and control irrigation and drainage facilities. BWMP are consist of Data Base Management System(DBMS) and Model System. DBMS make it possible to analyze data related with planing for water schedul and establish database. Model System are calculate reservoir inflow, reservoir effluent and basin water demand. Finally, operator is decide reservoir operation in consider of Model System and DBMS. BWMP might be nicely adapted to the planning and decision for saving water.

  • Organic production practices varied among producers. Generally, organic producers were relying on imported input materials such as organic compost and liquid fertilizer even more than conventional producers. Very few organic farmers had composting facilities or sites for the own supply of compost in need. The productivity of organic kiwifruit orchard (92%) was not as low as that of conventional while the net income (243%) was more than double that of conventional. This was mainly attributed to high farm gate price of organic fruits, low paid labour use and electricity. As a consequence, organic kiwifruit production seems to become a feasible option in Korea. However, high dependence on imported farming material, fuel and labour for too frequent liquid fertilizer spray should be addressed to achieve long term sustainability of organic kiwifruit production.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate Visitors' satisfaction at Eco-Agriculture/Organic Food Expo held in Uljin in 2005. The questionnaire survey with 1,120 participants was conducted at the venue for three times from July 22nd to August 15th, 2005. The evaluation considered Expo facilities and services, and motives of visit along with demographics of 1,080 valid samples. Evaluation results indicate overall satisfaction level of Expo participation was positive and 63.6% of the respondents showed intention of revisit and/or future visit to agricultural events. Expo facilities and service represented higher satisfaction level, however cost factors such as food and beverage, souvenirs and entrance fee had lower performance levels. The study outcome can help local governments and/or organizers host hallmark tourist events in planning and managing.

  • A basic proposal on the design of a grain drying and storage system was suggested for the bulk facilities of grain custody warehouses. A model square silo system was designed and developed on the basis of the proposal. A square silo system made of steel plate was developed with a stirring device, an automatic moisture meter and an auto-control system of PLC. Then, the developed square silo system was evaluated through drying experiments with rough rice. The square silo system could dry grains uniformly with a stirring device and an auto-control system regardless of grain depth. The developed square silo system can be well adapted for the bulk facilities of grain custody warehouses.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to residential satisfaction, and to examine the rural housing and village environment which enable to derive what should be considered in the future rural housing improvement. Data were collected by questionnaire survey in 11 rural villages - suburban rural area, plain rural area, intermediate rural area, mountainous rural area. The major findings are as follows: 1) The rural residents rather dissatisfied with'management/maintenance','economic value','facade'in housing level, The overall housing satisfaction level was just medium(neither satisfied nordissatisfied). 2) They also dissatisfied with'playground for children','education condition','medical facilities', 'market'in village level. The overa'll village satisfaction level was just above average(slightly satisfied). 3) Vrom the result of ANOVA test, there are no significant differences in residents evaluation for tiousing and village attributes among 4 rural areas. 4) Factor analysis identified six rural housing environmental factors:'inside utilities','housing size' 'aesthetic aspects','safety','privacy','outside utilities'. 5) For the rural village environments six important factors were derived :'public services','commercial convenience facilities','social interaction','environmental pollution','amenity','agricultural service facilities'.

  • Underground offers many advantages for storing agricultural and marine products. Since it is confined by thick walls of rock it is easy to control temperature and humidity and to achieve air and water tightness. Also, damages by rodents and insects could be avoided. Flexibility in choosing the location is another advantage that underground could offer. Consequently the goods could be stored near the big city to meet the demand change. Because of these advantages, many underground food storage facilities were built and operated successfully in U.S. and many Euroupean countries. On the other hand, there is no underground food storage facilities in Korea despite the need is growing rapidly. This paper describes the case studies of foreigh food storage and technologies related to food storage were analyzed and evaluated. Also performed is analysis of domestic technologies for construction and operation of underground food storage facilities to deduce the fields of studies that have to be conducted.

  • This paper examined the applicability of geophysical prospecting for water leakage detection of the water utilization facilities. Electrical resistivity survey and spontaneous-potential survey were carried out for the water leakage detection of dike and embankment, and the applicability was confirmed from many case studies. However, in order to efficiently maintain and detection of the more accurate water points in the embankment, the efficiently maintain and detection of the more accurate water leakage points in the embankment, the requirements are as follows; 1) It is necessary to use the electrical resistivity survey jointly with the spontaneous-potential survey in order to improve the reliability of water leakage information. 2) It is important to understand physical properties of the soil which influences the electrical resistivity of embankment in order to accurately grasp the water leakage points from the result of the electrical resistivity survey. 3) It is necessary to introduce the three-dimensional prospecting in order to improve the reliability of the measured value. 4) Introductions of the monitoring measurement system are necessary in order to efficiently and economically maintain of the water utilization facilities.
