Design of control software for GMACS (Giant Magellan Telescope Multi-Object Astronomical and Cosmological Spectrograph)

  • GMACS is one of the first light instruments for the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT). The development of GMACS control software follows Agile software development process, and the design of the software is based on the Unified Model Language (UML). In this poster, we present the architecture of the GMACS software and the development processes. As an example of the software development, we show the software of the Slit Mask Exchange Mechanism Prototype (SMEM-P) which is part of the GMACS Device Control Package (DCP).

A Study on the Effectiveness of CT-TDPS Learning Model in Problem Solving Programming using Scratch (스크래치를 이용한 문제해결 프로그래밍에서 CT-TDPS 학습 모형의 효과성 연구)

  • Computational Thinking(CT) is drawing attention as a core competency required for future talent in the 21st century. Software education for improving CT ability at home and abroad is in full swing. Among them, problem-solving programming education helps to improve CT ability. The CT-TDPS learning model follows the decomposition, abstraction thinking process, which modularizes complex problems, and the Agile development method, which is an iterative and incremental programming method to implement it. In this study, we tried to confirm the improvement of CT ability by applying CT-TDPS learning model to problem solving programming education using Scratch. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that in the problem solving programming education using the CT-TDPS learning model, it improved in all aspects of computing concept, computing performance, and computing perspective, which are sub-factors of CT ability. In addition, it was confirmed that there was a significant difference in the experimental group as a result of the t-test on the Dr.Scratch automatic evaluation result.

  • The Testing Frontier Capability Assessment Model (TCAM) is based on ISO/IEC 9126, TMMi and TPI. Since ISO/IEC 9126, TMMi and TPI were made over 10 years ago, TCAM faces the problem that it can not assess and analyze the capability of small businesses that employ new software development methods or processes, for example Agile, TDD(Test Driven Development), App software, and Web Software. In this paper, a method to improve the problem is proposed. The paper is composed of the following sections: 1) ISO/IEC 9126, ISO/IEC 25010 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119 part 2 review 2) TCAM review 3) software product quality perspective comparison, and analysis between ISO/IEC 9126, ISO/IEC 25010 and TCAM 4) comparison, and analysis between ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119 part2 and TCAM and 5) proposal for the improvement of TCAM.

S-MADP : Service based Development Process for Mobile Applications of Medium-Large Scale Project (S-MADP : 중대형 프로젝트의 모바일 애플리케이션을 위한 서비스 기반 개발 프로세스)

  • Innovative evolution in mobile devices along with recent spread of Tablet PCs and Smart Phones makes a new change not only in individual life but also in enterprise applications. Especially, in the case of medium-large mobile applications for large enterprises which generally takes more than 3 months of development periods, importance and complexity increase significantly. Generally Agile-methodology is used for a development process for the medium-large scale mobile applications, but some issues arise such as high dependency on skilled developers and lack of detail development directives. In this paper, S-MADP (Smart Mobile Application Development Process) is proposed to mitigate these issues. S-MADP is a service oriented development process extending a object-oriented development process, for medium-large scale mobile applications. S-MADP provides detail development directives for each activities during the entire process for defining services as server-based or client-based and providing the way of reuse of services. Also, in order to support various user interfaces, S-MADP provides detail UI development directives. To evaluate the performance of S-MADP, three mobile application development projects were conducted and the results were analyzed. The projects are 'TBS(TB Mobile Service) 3.0' in TB company, mobile app-store in TS company, and mobile groupware in TG group. As a result of the projects, S-MADP accounts for more detailed design information about 'Minimizing the use of resources', 'Service-based designing' and 'User interface optimized for mobile devices' which are needed to be largely considered for mobile application development environment when we compare with existing Agile-methodology. Therefore, it improves the usability, maintainability, efficiency of developed mobile applications. Through field tests, it is observed that S-MADP outperforms about 25% than a Agile-methodology in the aspect of the required man-month for developing a medium-large mobile application.

Concurrent Software Development Process Model (동시개발 소프트웨어 프로세스 모델)

  • Though a dozen of different software life cycle models are suggested, there is no universal model which can satisfy all the characteristics of software. Organizations mix and match different life cycle models to develop a model more tailored for their systems and capabilities. We suggest overlapped-concurrent development life cycle model that is more suitable in various software development environment. Firstly, we divided the development process into abstract and implementation stage. Abstract stage is from software concept phase to detailed design starting time, and implementation stage is from detailed design phase to system testing phase. Next, the abstract stage introduced the overlapped phase concept that begins the next phase when the step is completed 20% by applying pareto's law. In the implementation stage, we introduced the concurrent development which the several phases are performed some time as when one use-case (UC) is completed the next development phase is started immediately. The proposed model has an advantage that it can reduce the inefficiency of development resource greatly. This model can increase the customer satisfaction with a great product at a low cost and on a short schedule. Also, this model can contribute to increase the software development success rate.

  • 대학에서 게임 개발 교육을 수행할 때 체계적인 방법론을 적용하는 것이 필요하나, 대부분의 방법론이 복잡하고, 또 사전에 방법론에 대한 교육을 시키기도 어려워 학교 교육에서 적용하기 어렵다는 문제가 있다. 여러 방법론 중 대표적인 애자일 방법론인 스크럼은 단기간의 개발을 지원할 수 있고, 상대적으로 쉬운 구조를 가지고 있어 학기 기반의 프로젝트 교육에 적합한 특성을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 스크럼 방법론을 한 학기의 게임 개발 프로젝트 교육에 적합하도록 최적화한 CK-Scrum 방법론을 실제로 적용한 사례를 분석하고, 문제점을 보완하여 새로 개선된 CK-Scrum 1.1 방법론을 제시한다. 이 방법론으로 학생들이 프로젝트를 수행하며 품질이 높은 게임을 개발하고 방법론에 대한 학습도 병행할 수 있다.

  • For agile production methods, manufacturing system requires development of a motion controller which has flexibility of general-purpose motion controller and productivity of specialized-purpose one. In this study we developed a flowchart programming development environment for motion language and process control. A controller designed on this environment can be used as a general purpose motion controller of a machine tool. Design of control programming based on a flowchart has the advantages such as reducing the programming time and improving intuitiveness of interface for users.   • Three kinds of typical practices to reflect the values of Agile Development Methodology were selected from a previous study. Those were Communicate using Web 2.0 collaboration tools, test-driven development (TDD, Test-Driven Development) method is adopted, and refactoring. In this study, we set up a hypothesis that the adoption of TDD project will make user satisfaction is higher. Select 100 sample projects from SourceForge(sourceforge.net), the most popular open source hosting site, the criteria is we can be determined whether operate in the project (developer least 7 people, bugs can occur more than 100, created the project since 2000). To determine whether the use of automated development tools xUnit of TDD through the CVS and SVN log analysis. Using data from the FLOSSmole and to evaluate the user experience of the project. User satisfaction of each project Rating, bug fix cycle, downloads and pageviews. Through this study, correlates of whether TDD adoption and user satisfaction, we will suggest a reflected the Agile practices new open source development methodology. As a result, it contributes to increase the maturity of the open source community.

  • Digital Manufacturing is a technology facilitating effective developments and agile productions of the product via digital computer models representing physical and logical schema and the behavior of the real manufacturing systems including manufacturing resources, environments and products. For the successful application of this technology, a digital factory as a well-designed and an integrated environment is essential. In this paper, we constructed the sophisticated digital factory of a Korean automotive company's body shop, and conducted precise simulations of unit cell, lines and the whole factory for the collision check, the production flow analysis and the off-line programming. We expect that this digital factory of the body shop helps us achieve great savings in time and cost for many manufacturing preparation activities of the new car development.
