Background: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a rare but highly invasive malignancy characterized by poor survival. In a national cancer survey, the age-standardized incidence rate of GBC was highest in Jeju Island among the 15 provinces in South Korea. The aim of this descriptive epidemiological study was to suggest the modifiable risk factors for this rare malignant disease in Jeju Island by performing an age-sex-matched case-control study. Materials and Methods: The case group included patients diagnosed with GBC at the Department of Internal Medicine of Cheju Halla General Hospital, Jeju, South Korea, within the 5-year study period. The control group consisted of age-sex-matched subjects selected from among the participants of the health promotion center at the same institute and in the same period. We compared 78 case-control pairs in terms of clinical variables such as histories of hypertension, diabetes, vascular occlusive disorders, alcohol and smoking consumption, obesity, and combined polypoid lesions of the gallbladder (PLG) or gallstone diseases (GSDs). Results: Among the relevant risk factors, alcohol consumption, parity ${\geq}2$, PLG, and GSDs were significant risk factors in the univariate analysis. PLG (p < 0.01; OR, 51.1; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.98-875.3) and GSD (p < 0.01; OR, 54.9; 95% CI, 3.00-1001.8) were associated risk factors of GBC in the multivariate analysis with the conditional logistic regression model. However, we failed to find any correlation between obesity and GBC. We also found a negative correlation between alcohol consumption history and GBC in the multivariate analysis (p < 0.01; OR, 0.06; 95% CI, 0.01-0.31). Conclusions: These results suggest that combined PLG and GSDs are strongly associated with the GBC in Jeju Island and mild to moderate alcohol consumption may negatively correlate with GBC risk.
Purpose: The study was undertaken to examine the degree of nurse's suffering experience and to identify the influencing factors on nurses' suffering experience in Korea. Method: Data were collected using a questionnaire for 271 nurses working at 5 general hospitals in Daegu and Kyung-book province from Sep. 1, to Sep. 30, 2003. The questionnaire consists of 54 items, general characteristics(10) and nurse's suffering experience(44). All surveys were sorted and studied by frequency analysis, mean score, standard deviation, range, independent t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Multiple regression. Result: The findings of this survey indicate 1) The degree of suffering experienced by nurses caring for terminal cancer patients was 2.96; 2) Demographic variables affecting the degree of nurses' suffering experience were age(F=5.62, p=.000), marital status(F=20.53, p=.000), religion(F=5.44, p=.020), career of clinical experience(F=6.96, p=.000), and feelings of end-life care(F=3.11, p=.016); 3) There were slight correlation between the subitem of nurse's suffering experience and general characteristics of subjects. For 'expanding self consciousness', age, career duration, and position; for 'forming empathy with family', age and career duration ; for 'spiritual sublimation', age, and career duration were affected variables. 4) As a result of the multiple regression analysis for predictable variables affecting nurses' suffering, it was found that 'career of clinical experience' was most significant(F=23.100, p=.000). The explanatory power of this regression formula was 17.6%. Conclusion: This study can provide the basic data useful towards improvement of nursing services for terminal cancer patients and the health of the nurse.
The purpose of this study is to examine parental attitudes perceived by juvenile delinquents and to provide the basic material on the problem of juvenile delinquency. For this purpose, this study examines 1) the relation-ship between the juvenile delinquents' social demographic characteristics and the juvenile delinquents' view of parental attitudes 2) the correlation between the juvenile delinquents' social demographic characteristics and the content and the motive of delinquency, 3) the content and the motive of delinquency in accordance with the juvenile delinquents' view of parental attitudes. For the subject of this study, 318 juvenile delinquents who were in the custody of the institution in An-Yang were selected, and questionnaire sheets were used. Of 318 questionnaire sheets, 221 sheets were analyzed by statistical methods, and the data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, average, t-test, x-test, and F-test; 1. There is a significant difference in the juvenile delinquents' view of their fathers in accordance with their fathers' age. Namely, the younger the father is, the more the juvenile delinquent wants his father to be less negative. There is a significant difference in the juvenile delinquents' view of their mothers according to the existence of step-sibling. Juveniles with step-siblings deny their mothers' inconsistent attitude more than the juveniles without a step-sibling. 2. The social demographic characteristics influencing the content of juvenile delinquency are juvenile's age, the degree of education, the father's age, the style of possessing house and the region of a dwelling. The motive of delinquency show a significant difference according to the juvenile's age. 3. According to the results of studying the correlation between the view of parental attitudes and the content and the motive of delinquency, there is a significant difference in the father's protective attitude, and the content of delinquency as well as in the mother's positive denial, her rigid control, her inconsistent attitude and the content of delinquency. The subordinate domains are opposite to the traditional conception that the father is stern and the mother is peronssive. Today our society encourages the parents' equal and democratic attitude toward their children and the juvenile's view of parental attitudes is discordant with the reality. The juvenile delinquents' view of parental attitudes reflects the equalitariansim of the contemporary society but is influenced by the traditional view of the parents.

Mitochondrial DNA haplotypes from the displacement-loop (D-loop) region (436 bp) were genotyped and sequenced in Japanese Black beef cattle raised in the same herd. Correlation coefficients between mitochondrial DNA haplotypes, maternal lineage, birth weight, preweaning average daily gain, weaning weight, post weaning average daily gain and yearling weight were computed. The objective was to study the relationship between maternal and postnatal growth traits and to investigate if postnatal growth of calves to yearling age could be accurately predicted from mitochondrial DNA haplotypes. Results of the phylogenetic analysis revealed 17 maternal lineages and four mitochondrial DNA haplotypes. There were strong, positive and highly significant (p<0.001) correlations among maternal traits ranging from 0.52 to 0.98. Similarly, among postnatal growth traits, most of the correlations were also strong, positive and highly significant (p<0.001); the highest correlation of 0.94 was between preweaning average daily gain and weaning weight. However, correlations between mitochondrial DNA haplotypes and postnatal growth traits were very low, mostly negative and non-significant (p>0.05) ranging from -0.05 to 0.1. Prediction of postnatal growth from mitochondrial DNA yielded very low $R^{2}$ values ranging from 0.002 to 0.019. It was concluded that mitochondrial DNA polymorphism has no significant association with postnatal growth from birth to yearling age, and by implication, nuclear rather than cytoplasmic DNA, accounts for most of the genetic variation observed in postnatal growth of Japanese Black cattle. Therefore, mitochondrial DNA genotyping at an early age has no bearing on the accurate prediction of the future growth performance of calves.
Objective : This study was conducted to assess the clinical significance of traumatic brain stem injury (TBSI) reflected on Glasgow Coma Score (GCS) and Glasgow Outcome Score (GOS) by various clinical variables. Methods : A total of 136 TBSI patients were selected out of 2695 head-injured patients. All initial computerized tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging studies were retrospectively analyzed according to demographic- and injury variables which result in GCS and GOS. Results : In univariate analysis, mode of injury showed a significant effect on combined injury (p<0.001), as were the cases with skull fracture on radiologic finding (p<0.000). The GCS showed a various correlation with radiologic finding (p<0.000), mode of injury (p<0.002), but less favorably with impact site (p<0.052), age (p<0.054) and skull fracture (p<0.057), in order of statistical significances. However, only GOS showed a definite correlation to radiologic finding (p<0.000). In multivariate analysis, the individual variables to enhance an unfavorable effect on GCS were radiologic finding [odds ratio (OR) 7.327, 95% confidence interval (CI)], mode of injury (OR; 4.499, 95% CI) and age (OR; 3.141, 95% CI). Those which influence an unfavorable effect on GOS were radiologic finding (OR; 25.420, 95% CI) and age (OR; 2.674, 95% CI). Conclusion : In evaluation of TBSI on outcome, the variables such as radiological finding, mode of injury, and age were revealed as three important ones to have an unfavorable effect on early stage outcome expressed as GCS. However, mode of injury was shown not to have an unfavorable effect on late stage outcome as GOS. Among all unfavorable variables, radiological finding was confirmed as the only powerful prognostic variable both on GCS and GOS.

The leucocyte count was shown as range 5.0 to $18.0{\times}10^3/mm^3$ with mean of $8.25{\pm}1.51{\times}10^3/mm^3$(SD). There were not significant. differences in age, 2. The mean value of hemoglobin was shown $13.9{\pm}1.7g/100ml(SD)$ ranging 9.8 to 16.8g/100ml. The mean value of hematocrit was shown $40.9{\pm}3.94ml/100ml(SD)$ ranging 26 to 54. There were not significant differences in age. 3. The mean corpuscular hemoglobin was shown as range of 11.8 to 22.2pg with mean of $16.9{\pm}4.69$(SD). The mean corpuscular volume was shown as range of 34.5 to $71.3cu{\mu}$ with mean of $49.0{\pm}7.32cu{\mu}$(SD). The mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration was shown as range of 30.6 to 39.4 g/100 ml with mean of $34.6{\pm}2.36$(SD). There were not significant differences in age. 4. The correlation among erythrocyte count, hemoglobin and hematocrit value were observed as follows: Erythrocyte count and hemoglobin (+0.328), rythrocyte count and hematocrit vague (+0.319). A linear regression equation was shown as follows: Erythrocyte count and hemoglobin (Y=0.336x+10.977), erythrocyte count and hematocrit value (Y=0.655x+35.274). 5. The high correlation between hemoglobin and hematocrit vague was observed (r= +0.836). A linear regression equation was shown: (Y=1.948x+13.895).
This study was carried out to investigate the job performance, perception of job importance, and job satisfaction in dietitians working in geriatric hospitals in Busan. A survey was conducted from April 28 to June 30, 2011, and the data were analyzed using the SPSS program. The age of over 41 group showed higher job performance in terms of sanitation and safety management than the age of under 25 group but showed lower job performance in terms of nutrition management than the age of 31~40 group. The subjects who worked for shorter than 2 years at their present jobs showed the lower job performance in terms of menu management and accounting management than the other groups, whereas those who worked in 'over 200 bed' hospitals showed the higher job performance in terms of sanitation and safety management than the others. The subjects who worked for longer than 6 years showed the higher job satisfaction in terms of communication and working environment than the others. Job performance showed a significant positive correlation with perception of job importance, whereas it showed no significant correlation with job satisfaction. More work experience correlated with a higher monthly income, and younger workers showed higher job performance. Younger age and more work experience at a present job correlated with a higher perception of job importance. More work experience at a present job, higher monthly income, and shorter work experience were correlated with higher job satisfaction. These results suggest that it would be effective to adopt training programs for appropriate nutrition service and provide continuous education programs for professional development.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of growth exercise program based on Korean medicine. Methods : We recruited fifty two elementary students in a rural area, and measured height, weight, BMI, WHR, and bone age. Questionnaire on sleep, exercise, symptoms based on Korean medicine was performed. Students exercised TaeGuk(太極) Health Gigong(氣功), a growth exercise program 11 times in 6 weeks. Results : Height, weight, BMI and WHR of the subject students were lower than those in the Korean CDC(Center for Disease Control and Prevention) growth chart. There was significantly negative correlation between time of sleep and bone age(p=0.028), but no correlation between time of exercise and bone age(p=0.668). According to diagnosis based on Korean medicine, many students were in weakness of spleen and lung, and bone age according to deficiency of organ showed no significant difference(p=0.774). Satisfaction, impact on time of exercise after program, ideal time for program and impact on reparticipation of program were strong in the questionnaire after growth exercise program(TaeGuk(太極) Health Gigong(氣功)). Conclusions : Korean medicine promotion of health has a salutary effect on elementary school students in rural area by collecting growth and health data and educating easy exercise based on Taichi.
Purpose of this study was to investigate correlation between blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) and dietary sodium, potassium intake pattern in the family members of normal cerebrovascular (CVA) disease, excluding patients themselves. Both mean values of systolic (125.8$\pm$23.7 vs 119.3$\pm$19.2mmHg) and diastolic(76.1$\pm$16.7 vs 71.6$\pm$12.5mmHg) bllood pressure in the family members of cerebrovascular disease patients were significantly higher than those of normal subjects. Systolic blood pressure was positively correlated with age, weibght, sodium in soybean paste, potassium in hotpepepr paste, soybean paste and meats in normal subjects group. In the family members of cerebrovascular patient, systolic blood pressure was possively correlated with age, weight, sodium in soy sauce, drinking water and potassium in soups. Interestingly, table salt intake was positively correlated with systosolic blood pressure in the family members of cerebrovascular disease patients. Diastolic bolld pressure was positively correlated with age, weight, table salt intake potassium in hotpepper paste and soybean paste in normal subjects group. Diastolic blood pressure was positively correlated with age, weight and table salt intake in the family members of cerebrovascular disease patients. Urinary potassium excretion was negatively correlated with both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the family members of cerebrovascular disease patients.
Objectives: This study explored the relationships between Bone Mineral Density (BMD), Body Mass Index(BMI), Age, pain duration outcomes of treatment for Low Back Pain(LBP) in 3 groups(normal, osteopenia, osteoporosis) of female patients. Methods: We evaluated 32 cases of normal, 30 cases of osteopenia and 38 cases of osteoporosis based on BMD, BMI, Age, pain duration among the female inpatients with LBP caused by lumbar disc herniation, admitted at Jaseng Hospital of Oriental Medicine from January 2010 to December 2011. And we measured VNRS(Verbal Numeric Rating Scale) to evaluate the conservative treatment effects. Results: In improvement of female LBP caused by lumbar disc herniation, BMD(T-score), BMI had not proved correlation(P-value>0.05). Female patients' age was negatively correlated with T-score. In pain improvement, BMD normal group showed more reduction of NRS(numeric rating scale) than osteoporosis group, but that had not proved correlation(p-value=0.893). Conclusions: Statically, among the female inpatients with LBP caused by lumbar disc herniation, had no significant differences between the normal group, osteopenia group and osteoporosis group's improvement rate, depending on treating period.
