Sheet resistance reduction in the Ag nanowire (NW) coated films is accomplished with slight improvement of optical properties for the application of transparent conducting electrodes by using $O_2$ plasma treatment. The sheet resistance was optimized after 30 seconds $O_2$ plasma treatment, showing the 27 % of maximum decrease of sheet resistance. It is found that the $O_2$ plasma treatment get rid of the residual organic materials at the junction of Ag NWs. However, the Ag NWs may be also snapped by the excessive $O_2$ plasma treatment can showing the collapses of Ag NWs networks. Furthermore, the optical properties such as optical transmittance and haze were monotonically improved with the $O_2$ plasma treatment time until 90 seconds.

Pristine ZnO, 3 wt.% Ga-doped (3GZO) and 3 wt.% Ag-doped (3SZO) ZnO nanowires (NWs) were grown using the hot-walled pulse laser deposition (HW-PLD) technique. The doping of Ga and Ag in ZnO NWs was observed by analyzing the optical and chemical properties. We optimized the synthesis conditions, including processing temperature, time, gas flow, and distance between target and substrate for the growth of pristine and doped ZnO NWs. The diameter and length of pristine and doped ZnO NWs were controlled under 200 nm and several ${\mu}m$, respectively. Low temperature photoluminescence (PL) was performed to observe the optical property of doped NWs. We clearly observed the shift of the near band edge (NBE) emission by using low temperature PL. In the case of 3GZO and 3SZO NWs, the center photon energy of the NBE emissions shifted to low energy direction using the Burstein Moss effect. A strong donor-bound exciton peak was found in 3 GZO NWs, while an acceptor-bound exciton peak was found in 3SZO NWs. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) also indicated that the shift of binding energy was mainly attributed to the interaction between the metal ion and ZnO NWs.

Indium tin oxide (ITO) used a transparent electrode of a photoelectric device has a low sheet resistance and a high transmittance. However, ITO is disadvantageous in that the process cost is expensive, and the process time is long. Silver nanowires (AgNWs) transparent electrodes are based on a low cost solution process. In addition, it has attracted attention as a next-generation transparent electrode material that replaces ITO because it has similar electrical and optical characteristic to ITO, it is noted as a. AgNW thin films are mainly produced by spin-coating. However, the spin-coating process has a disadvantage of high material loss. In this study, the material loss was reduced by using about 2~10 ㎕ of AgNW solution on a (25 × 25) ㎟ substrate using the shear-coating method. It was also possible to align AgNWs in the drag direction by dragging the meniscus of the solution. The electro-optical properties of the AgNW thin film were adjusted by changing the experimental parameters that the amount of AgNWs suspension, the gap between the substrate and the blade, and the coating speed. As a result, AgNW thin films with a transmittance of 90.7 % at a wavelength of 550 nm and a sheet resistance of 15 Ω/□ was deposited and exhibited similar properties to similar AgNW transparent electrodes studied by other researchers.

Pt is still considered as one of the most active electrocatalysts for ORR in alkaline fuel cells. However, the high cost and scarcity of Pt hamper the widespread commercialization of fuel cells. As a strong candidate for the replacement of Pt catalyst, silver (Ag) has been extensively studied due to its high activity, abundance, and low cost. Ag is more stable than Pt in the pH range of 8~14 as the equilibrium potential of Ag/Ag+ being ${\approx}200mV$ higher than that of Pt/PtO. However, Ag is the overall catalytic activity of Ag for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) is still not comparable to Pt catalyst since the surface Ag atoms are approximately 10 times less active than Pt atoms. Therefore, further enhancement in the ORR activity of Ag catalysts is necessary to be competitive with current cutting-edge Pt-based catalysts. We demonstrate the architectural design of Ag catalysts, synthesized using plasma discharge in liquid phase, for enhanced ORR kinetics in alkaline media. An attractive feature of this work is that the plasma status controlled via electric-field could form the Ag nanowires or dendrites without any chemical agents. The plasma reactor was made of a Teflon vessel with an inner diameter of 80 mm and a height of 80 mm, where a pair of tungsten(W) electrodes with a diameter of 2 mm was placed horizontally. The stock solutions were made by dissolving the 5-mM AgNO3 in DI water. For the synthesis of Agnanowires, the electricfield of 3.6kVcm-1 in a 200-ml AgNO3 aqueous solution was applied across the electrodes using a bipolar pulsed power supply(Kurita, Seisakusyo Co. Ltd). The repetition rate and pulse width were fixed at 30kHz and 2.0 us, respectively. The plasma discharge was carried out for a fixed reaction time of 60 min. In case of Ag nanodendrites, the electric field of 32kVcm-1 in a 200-ml AgNO3 aqueous solution was applied and other conditions were identical to the plasma discharge in water in terms of electrode configuration, repetition rate and discharge time. Using SEM and STEM, morphology of Ag nanowires and dendrites were investigated. With 3.6 kV/cm, Ag nanowire was obtained, while Ag dendrite was constructed with 32 kV/cm. The average diameter and legth of Ag nanowireses were 50 nm and 3.5 um, and thoes values of Ag dendrites were 40 nm and 3.0 um. As a results of XPS analysis, the surface defects in the Ag nanowires facilitated O2 incorporation into the surface region via the interaction between the oxygen and the electron cloud of the adjacent Ag atoms. The catalytic activity of Ag for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) showed that the catalytic ORR activity of Ag nanowires are much better than Ag nanodendrites, and electron transfer number of Ag nanowires is similar to that of Pt (${\approx}4$).

Silver nanowires (AgNWs) intrinsically possess high conductivity, ductility, and network structure percolated in a low density, which have led to many advanced applications of transparent and flexible electronics. Most of these applications require patterning of AgNWs, for which photolithographic and printing-based techniques have been widely used. However, several drawbacks such as high cost and complexity of the process disturb its practical application with patterning AgNWs. Herein, we propose a novel method for the patterning of AgNWs by employing UV-curable adhesive tape with a structure of liner/adhesive layer/polyolefin (PO) film and UV irradiation to simplify the process. First, the UV-curable adhesive tape was attached to AgNWs/polyurethane (PU), and then selectively exposed to UV irradiation by using a photomask. Subsequently, the UV-curable adhesive tape was peeled off and consequently AgNWs were patterned on PU substrate. This facile method is expected to be applicable to the fabrication of a variety of low-cost, shape-deformable transparent and wearable devices.

Polypyrrole (PPy) was chemically synthesized within the pores of nanoporous polycarbonate (PC) Particle Track-etched Membranes (nano-PTM). Hollow tubules are formed because polypyrrole initially deposits on the surface of the pores walls. By running successive syntheses, we have obtained wires (filled tubules). The redox property of PPy nanotubules was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The redox potential was lowered as much as 0.5V vs. Ag/AgC1, comparing with electrosynthesized PPy film. It suggests that an electron hopping mechanism of PPy nanotubules was improved. Electric conductivity of PPy nanotubules and nanowire was evaluated. We obtained good electric conductivity of PPy nanotubules even in the neutral state. The conductivity and activation energy were $10^1$ order at the room temperature and 25.3 meV respectively.

Conventional fabrics that have modified in to conductive fabrics using conductive nanomaterials have novel applications in different fields. These of fabrics can be used as heat generators with the help of the Joule heating mechanism, which is applicable in thermal therapy and to maintain the warmth in cold weather conditions in a wearable manner. A modified fabric can also be used as a sensor for body temperature measurements using the variation of resistance with respect to the body temperature deviations. In this study, polyol synthesized silver nanowires (Ag NWs) are incorporated to commercially available cotton fabrics by using drop casting method to modify the fabric as a thermogenic temperature sensor. The variation of sheet resistance of the fabrics with respect to the incorporated mass of Ag NWs was measured by four probe technique while the bulk resistance variation with respect to the temperature was measured using a standard ohm meter. Heat generation profiles of the fabrics were investigated using thermo graphic camera. Electrically conductive fabrics, fabricated by incorporating 30 mg of Ag NWs in 25 ㎠ area of cotton fabric can be heated up to a maximum steady state temperature of 45℃, using a commercially available 9 V battery.

Recently, various methods for preparing a flexible electrode for implementing a wearable sensor have been introduced. Wearable sensors show similar tendency to use various polymer substrates, which provides elasticity suitable to the motion of human body. In this paper, a highly elastic silver nanowire based electrode was prepared on a sponge-based stretchable substrate, and electrical properties were evaluated. Silver nanowires were grown using a wet chemical synthesis, impregnated into a plasma-treated sponge, and then heat treated at a low temperature. In particular, the plasma surface treatment of the sponge enables uniform coating of silver nanowires. The flexible sponge electrode showed reliable electrical resistance changes over 160 repeated tensile-compression cycles.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a sensitive approach to detect and to identify a variety of molecules. To enhance the Raman signal, optimization of the gap between nanostructures is quite important. One-dimensional materials such as nanowires, nanotubes, and nanograsses have great potential to be used in SERS due to their unique sizes and shape dependent characteristics. In this study we investigate a simple way to fabricate SERS substrates based on randomly grown copper oxide (CuO) nanowires. CuO nanograss is fabricated on pre-cleaned Cu foils. Cu oxidized in an ammonium ambient solution of 2.5 M NaOH and 0.1 M $(NH_4)_2S_2O_8$ at $4^{\circ}C$ for 10, 30, and 60 minutes. Then, Cu(OH)2 nanostructures are formed and dried at $180^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. With the drying process, the Cu(OH)2 nanostructure is transformed to CuO nanograss by dehydration reaction. CuO nanograss are grown randomly on Cu foil with the average length of 10 ${\mu}m$ and the average diameter of a 100 nm. CuO nanograsses are covered by Ag with various thicknesses from 10 to 30 nm using a thermal evaporator. Then, we immerse uncoated and Ag coated CuO nanowire samples of various oxidation times in a 0.001M methanol-based 4-mercaptopyridine (4-Mpy) in order to evaluate SERS enhancement. Raman shift and SERS enhancement are measured using a Raman spectrometer (Horiba, LabRAM ARAMIS Spectrometer) with the laser wavelength of 532 nm. Raman scattering is believed to be enhanced by the interaction between CuO nanograss and Ag island film. The gaps between Ag covered CuO nanograsses are diverse from <10 nm at the bottom to ~200 nm at the top of nanograsses. SERS signal are improved where the gaps are minimized to near 10s of nanometers. There are many spots that provide sufficiently narrow gap between the structures on randomly grown CuO nanograss surface. Then we may find optimal enhancement of Raman signal using the mapping data of average results. Fabrication of CuO nanograss based on a solution method is relatively simple and fast so this result can potentially provide a path toward cost effective fabrication of SERS substrate for sensing applications.
