Relationship among Nurses' Communication Style, Nursing Service Satisfaction, Hospital Service Satisfaction Perceived by Patients' Family and Intent to Revisit the Hospital (환자가족이 지각하는 간호사의 의사소통 스타일, 간호서비스 만족, 병원서비스 만족과 병원 재이용 의도 관계연구)

  • Purpose: This research aimed at investigating the relationship among nurses' communication style, nursing service satisfaction, hospital service satisfaction, and intent to revisit the hospital. Methods: A correlational study was conducted including 270 family members of patients who were hospitalized in general wards in a general hospital in J city. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. Results: Affective communication style demonstrated the highest correlation with intent to revisit the hospital, followed by informative communication style, and authoritative communication style. Nursing service satisfaction demonstrated indirect effect through the parameter, hospital service satisfaction to the intent to revisit the hospital. Hospital service satisfaction demonstrated direct effect influencing the intent to revisit the hospital. Conclusion: With respect to nursing service, affective communication style is important to promote intent to revisit the hospital. It is necessary to improve nursing service, since it is an important variable that can improve hospital service satisfaction and hospital revisit intent.

  • Purpose This study investigated the impact of review language style (affective vs. cognitive) on review helpfulness and the moderating effects of the types of attractions in the relationships between the review language and its helpfulness. Design/methodology/approach This study investigates the impact of review language style (affective vs. cognitive) on review helpfulness and the moderating effects of the types of attractions in the relationships between the review language and its helpfulness. This study selected two hedonic and utilitarian attractions (Hedonic: Brandenburg Gate, Utilitarian: Peragamon Museum) located in Berlin. A total of 3,320 reviews was collected from TripAdvisor. We divided online reviews posted for these places into reviews with more affective language and with more cognitive language by using the LIWC. Then, we investigated the impact of language effect on review helpfulness across the attraction type. Findings The findings suggest that peers tend to judge more helpful toward cognitive language in attraction reviews regardless of attraction type. This study found that peers tend to perceive more helpful toward cognitive review in utilitarian attractions. Even though there was an interaction effect between review language and attraction type, in hedonic attractions, the influence of cognitive language was reduced, but still cognitive reviews would get more helpful votes.

The effects of nurses' communication styles, nurse-mother partnerships, and mothers' anxiety on coping of hospitalized children's mothers (아동병동 환아 어머니가 인지한 간호사의 의사소통유형과 간호사와의 파트너십, 불안이 대처에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This descriptive study aimed to identify the contribution of nurses' communication styles, nurse-mother partnerships, and mothers' anxiety levels to the coping of mothers of hospitalized children, with the goal of establishing effective intervention strategies based on these factors. Methods: Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from July 12 to October 29, 2018. The study's participants were 200 hospitalized children's mothers in the pediatric ward of a university hospital. Results: The coping of hospitalized children's mothers showed a significant relationship with nurses' informative communication style (r=.26, p<.001), affective communication style (r=.28, p<.001), nurse-mother partnership (r=.50, p<.001), authoritative communication style (r=-.28, p<.001), and mothers' anxiety (r=-.23, p=.001). A multiple regression analysis (adjusted R2=.32) indicated that the factors affecting the mothers' coping included nurse-mother partnership (𝛽=.47, p<.001), another caregiver (yes) (𝛽=.17, p=.006), and mothers' subjective health status (very healthy) (𝛽=.15, p=.047). Conclusion: Considering that the formation of cooperative partnerships between mothers and nurses found in this study had a positive effect on the mothers' coping skills, it appears necessary to develop and implement programs for improving nurses' communication skills and ability to form partnerships, beginning from undergraduate education.

Communication Type, Emotional Labor, and Job Stress of Nurses in Small and Medium-sized Hospitals (중소병원 간호사의 의사소통 유형과 감정노동 및 직무스트레스)

  • This is a descriptive research study to confirm the relationship between communication types, emotional labor, and job stress of nurses in small and medium-sized hospitals and to identify factors affecting job stress. The study was conducted on 192 nurses randomly selected from small and medium-sized hospitals located in G Metropolitan City. A structured questionnaire was used as a research tool for measuring communication types, emotional labor, and job stress, and the data were collected from August 20 to September 10, 2019. The results of the study are as follows. The subject's communication type averaged 3.55±0.31 points, emotional labor 3.21±0.59 points, and job stress 3.44±0.52 points. Job stress showed a statistically significant negative correlation with friendly communication among the types of communication, and a statistically significant positive correlation with emotional labor. Factors affecting job stress included gender, total clinical experience, and emotional labor, showing an explanatory power of 28.0%. It is considered that an efficient management strategy for emotional labor is needed to reduce the job stress of nurses in the future.

A Study on the Cognitive/Affective Personality and Experiential Factors Influencing on Smart Phone Users' Emotional Exhaustion and Education Performance (스마트폰 이용자의 정서적 소진과 학습 성과에 영향을 주는 인지·감성 성향과 사용 경험에 관한 연구)

  • Nowadays, organizations have adopted Smart Work to efficiently manage tasks, such as electronic document approval, customer management, and site inspection, without spatial-temporal constraints. Smartphones, which are commonly used in Smart Work, enable individuals to perform their jobs anytime and anywhere, thus blurring the boundary between work and non-work. To solve the problem of blurred work/non-work boundaries, a construct of self-control and affective factors needs to be considered because business style is changed from command to autonomy in the Smart Work context. Moreover, employees can convey their emotions easily over smartphones. Recent marketing studies have analyzed consumers' behavior based on the combination of cognitive, affective, and behavioral components, and researchers of information systems are also interested in these factors. However, previous research has some limitations, such as not classifying factors into cognitive, affective, and behavioral as well as not covering all three factors. Therefore, we explore the roles of cognitive, affective, and behavioral components in emotional exhaustion and education performance, and conduct a survey on undergraduate and graduate students, who are the major users of smartphones. Findings show that when individuals improve their cognitive capability (self-control) and usage experience (smartphone communication and internet usage), they can decrease emotional exhaustion and increase education performance. In the role of affective capability, increasing education performance is partially accepted. These results imply that organizations should not focus on controlling the usage of smartphones but on promoting appropriate smartphone usage.
