Analysis of factors affecting antibiotic use at hospitals and clinics based on the defined daily dose (병원 및 의원급 일일사용량 기준 항생제 사용량에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Inappropriate antibiotic use significantly contributes to antibiotic resistance, resulting in reduced antibiotic efficacy and an increased burden of disease. The objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics of prescribers whose antibiotics use was high and to explore factors affecting the use of antibiotics by medical institutions. This study analyzed the National Health Insurance claims data from 2015. Antibiotic prescription data were analyzed in terms of the number of defined daily doses per 1,000 patients per day, according to the World Health Organization anatomical-therapeutic-chemical classification and methodologies for measuring the defined daily dose. We investigated the characteristics of prescribers and medical institutions with high antibiotic use. Multivariate regression analyses were performed on the basis of characteristics of the medical institution (number of patients, type of medical institution [hospital or clinic], age of the physician, etc.). The number of patients and number of beds were found to be significant factors affecting antibiotic use in hospitals, and the number of patients, region, and medical department were significant factors affecting antibiotic use at the level of medical institutions. These findings are expected to help policy-makers to better target future interventions to promote prudent antibiotic prescription.

Characteristics of Employment and Factors Affecting on the Employment of Elderly with Disabilities -A Comparison of One-Person and Multi-Person Households (장애노인 고용특성 및 취업 영향요인 -1인가구와 다인가구 비교)

  • This study aimed to analyze characteristics of employment and factors affecting of employment of elderly with disabilities. Data were analyzed using chi-square tests, regression analyses according to the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled in Korea. Participants were 452 elderly with disabilities. First, The employment group showed significantly mild disorder, higher health status, absent of chronic disorder, licenses, absent of public employment service, married, absent of basic living security recipient, higher level of household income compared to the unemployed group. Second, Factors affecting employment of elderly with disabilities included public employment service, level of household income. And multi-person factors were acceptance of disabilities and one-person factors were basic living security recipient. Base on these results, suggested for obtaining job of elderly with disabilities.

Risk factors for hypertension in elderly people aged 65 and over, and adults under age 65 (65세 이상 노인과 65세 미만 성인의 고혈압 위험요인)

  • This study investigated the risk factors of hypertension among individuals under and over 65 years of age. A total of 6,152 participants were analyzed using the 6th Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging. The collected data were analyzed by Chi-square tests and logistic regression using SPSS 23. The results showed that the subjective health status, diabetes, heart disease, and degree of obesity according to BMI were risk factors affecting hypertension in individuals both under and over age 65. In adults under age 65, chronic lung disease, digestive disease, and drinking were risk factors affecting hypertension. In elderly over age 65, region, arthritis and rheumatic disease, smoking, and cognitive function were risk factors affecting hypertension. There is a need for chronic disease management in Korea due to rapid aging. In particular, it is important to analyze for effective management age-related risk factors affecting steadily increasing hypertension with age. Therefore, it is necessary to manage chronic disease management through social welfare improvement and welfare plans for the elderly, as well as personal management.

  • A study on the factors affecting oral health beliefs of some high school third graders on oral health promotion behavior After the oral health education on November 21, 2017, 160 students who explained and agreed on the study purpose and method were final analyzed. Oral health belief and oral health promotion behavior according to general characteristics were analyzed with t-test, one-way ANOVA, and the correlation with Pearson's correlation test. The convergence factors affecting oral health promotion were performed multiple regression analysis. The convergence factors affecting oral health promotion were performed multiple regression analysis. Oral health belief was the highest with 3.61 points, with 4.06 points of benefit, while oral health promotion with 3.25 points. Convergence factors affecting oral health improvement were shown as susceptibility (${\beta}=-0.210$), salienece(${\beta}=0.396$), seriousness(${\beta}=0.306$), and barrier(${\beta}=-0.170$). To explore ways to change the oral health beliefs of high school students, the school district health education is very important, and various oral health education programs to promote oral health promotion should be developed.

  • This study aimed to analyze characteristics of employment and factors affecting of employment of person with Brain disorder. Participants were 317 individuals with brain disorders. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test, regression analyses. according to the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled in Korea. These factors were classified into disability and health factors, employment related factors, and household related factors. First, The employment group showed significantly severe disorder, higher health status, absent of daily life helper, absent of assistive devices, higher level education, licenses, public employment service, job arrangement of acquaintance, find a job oneself, married, absent of basic living security assistance, greater supports of family compared to the unemployed group. Second, Factors affecting employment of individuals with brain disorders included daily life helper, education level, job arrangement of acquaintance, married, basic living security assistance. Base on these results, developing dailylife and education system and social supported system and modifying the benefit system can promote employment acquisition of individuals with brain disorder.

Selection of candidate genes affecting meat quality and preliminary exploration of related molecular mechanisms in the Mashen pig

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to select the candidate genes affecting meat quality and preliminarily explore the related molecular mechanisms in the Mashen pig. Methods: The present study explored genetic factors affecting meat quality in the Mashen pig using RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq). We sequenced the transcriptomes of 180-day-old Mashen and Large White pigs using longissimus dorsi to select differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Results: The results indicated that a total of 425 genes were differentially expressed between Mashen and Large White pigs. A gene ontology enrichment analysis revealed that DEGs were mainly enriched for biological processes associated with metabolism and muscle development, while a Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes analysis showed that DEGs mainly participated in signaling pathways associated with amino acid metabolism, fatty acid metabolism, and skeletal muscle differentiation. A MCODE analysis of the protein-protein interaction network indicated that the four identified subsets of genes were mainly associated with translational initiation, skeletal muscle differentiation, amino acid metabolism, and oxidative phosphorylation pathways. Conclusion: Based on the analysis results, we selected glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase 1, malate dehydrogenase 1, pyruvate dehydrogenase 1, pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4, and activator protein-1 as candidate genes affecting meat quality in pigs. A discussion of the related molecular mechanisms is provided to offer a theoretical basis for future studies on the improvement of meat quality in pigs.

Factors affecting home cooking behavior of women with elementary school children applying the theory of planned behavior

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to examine factors affecting cooking behavior at home. We examined components of the theory of planned behavior, perception of cooking skills, and socio-demographic variables affecting cooking behavior at home. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The study sample included 425 women raising elementary school children living in South Korea. They responded to an online structured questionnaire. The variables affecting cooking behavior at home were assessed using hierarchical regression analysis. RESULTS: The frequency of cooking behavior at home was 14.1 meals per week. Most respondents showed an intention regarding cooking behavior. The average score for attitude toward cooking behavior at home was 15.1 points (scale of 1 to 25). Attitude and cooking behavior showed a significant positive correlation (P < 0.01, r = 0.22). The subjective norm was 14.6 points (scale of 1 to 25). The subjective norm showed a significant correlation with cooking behavior (P < 0.01, r = 0.18). The control belief was 2.8 points (scale of 1 to 5). The control belief and cooking behavior showed a significant correlation in all questions (P < 0.01, r = 0.25). The subjects were significant confident about their cooking skills, except for Kimchi. Perception of cooking skills showed a significant correlation with all questions concerning cooking behavior (P < 0.01, r = 0.30). Significant variables for predicting intention regarding cooking behavior were perception of cooking skills, employment status, income, and attitude. Significant variables for predicting cooking behavior were employment status, income, control belief, number of children, and behavioral intention. CONCLUSIONS: In order to provide nutrition education to increase cooking behavior at home, it is necessary to have a positive attitude toward cooking behavior, increase control belief, and improve confidence related to cooking skills. Moreover, differentiated education based on the employment status of women is needed.

Factors Affecting FDI Intentions of Investors: Empirical Evidence from Provincial-Level Data in Vietnam

  • This study aimed to explore the factors affecting the foreign direct investment (FDI) intentions of investors into Quang Ninh province, located in the north-eastern of Viet Nam. Researchers used two main methods, namely, Exploratory Factors Analysis (EFA) and the Structural Equation Model (SEM) based on partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS SEM) to explore and measure the impact of factors affecting the investors' FDI intentions into Quang Ninh province. The empirical analysis used data from the survey of 206 domestic and foreign investors into Quang Ninh province, including representatives of the Board of Directors, members, and management representatives at the department level, with reliable tools (SPSS 26 and SmartPLS 3.0 software). The research results identified the following factors affecting investment into Quang Ninh: FDI attraction policies have the strongest impact on the investors' FDI intentions; it is followed by infrastructure, public services and human capital with strong effects on intentions of investors' FDI; and finally the standards of living that affects the investors' FDI intentions. There is also a positive relationship between all the factors and the investors' FDI intentions. Several recommendations are further suggested to enhance attraction of foreign direct investment into Quang Ninh province.

Workers' perceptions on the experience education for occupational safety and health in community: Focused on the values and affecting factors (지역사회 산업안전보건 체험교육에 대한 근로자의 인식: 체험교육의 가치와 영향 요인을 중심으로)

  • Objectives: The purposes of this study was to describe workers' perceived values and the affecting factors (pros and cons) of the experience education for occupational safety and health and to suggest the strategies and future directions to improve the experience educational quality. Methods: A total of 8 male workers taking the safety and health education of the 7 safety experience education centers involved in this study (5 centers managed by Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), 2 centers of large commercial companies). This study used Photovoice, a qualitative method, as the study method. We conducted the photovoice-based in-depth interview with the SHOWeD questions and strategy and used the taxonomical analysis. Results: The study participants' perceived values of experience education were strengthening self-efficacy of the safety and health practices, providing practically useful information, and enjoying refreshing experiences different from daily jobs. Positive affecting factors of the experience education (pros) were providing the educational environments and opportunities of direct experiences, teaching practical safety and health contents for the participants, and the trainer's instruction competencies. Negative affecting factors of the experience education (cons) were learner's negative or standing postures during trainer's lecturing, insufficient exercise conditions and facilities for education, and difficult and theory-oriented lecture far from the practical jobs in reality. Conclusions: Major values of exercise education were direct experiences, useful contents and interesting opportunities from the education participants' perspectives. To improve the exercise education quality, overall educational environments such as convenience facilities as well as exercise facilities should be modified altogether. This study partially and conveniently used the photovoice method as the study limitation.

Factors Affecting Turnover Intention of Nurses Working in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (신생아 집중치료실 간호사의 이직의도에 미치는 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to assess the factors affecting turnover intention of the nurses working in neonatal intensive care units, including the extent of fatigue, work stresses, and work overload related to infection control. Methods: This was a descriptive correlational study to test factors affecting the turnover intention of the nurses working in neonatal intensive care units. Data was analyzed utilizing descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearsons' Correlation Coefficient, and multiple regressions by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0 Program(IBM Corp., Armonk, NY). Results: The turnover intention of nurses had a positive correlation with the extent of fatigue (r=.54, p<.001), work stress (r=.40, p<.001), and with the work overload (r=.43, p<.001) related to infection control. In addition, factors affecting the turnover intention of nurses included the extent of fatigue (β=.52, p<.001) related to infection control and the number of pediatric patients assigned to each nurse (β=.26, p=.001) and the variances explained by the regression model was 37.0%. Conclusion: It is necessary to establish and implement strategies to lower the extent of fatigue related to infection control by reducing the nurses' workload. Securing additional nurses to ensure an appropriate number of pediatric patients assigned to each nurse, and providing efficient management and available resources to reduce the turnover intention of nurses working in neonatal intensive care units are suggested.
