Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of regular exercise through the combined walking-oriented aerobic and resistance exercises using EX1 in young adults. Design: Experimental one group pre and post test Methods: Participants comprised17 healthy young adults. All subjects performed a combined exercise program for 10 times using EX1. We measured quadriceps muscle thickness using ultrasound. Additionally, the hand grip strength test, and sit and reach test were performed before and after the exercise. Through paired t-test, we investigated whether there was a statistically significant difference in the measurement results after exercise program. Results: The rectus femoris muscle contraction ratio showed significant difference after exercise(P< 0.01). In the sit and reach test, flexibility showed significant difference after exercise(P < 0.01). The hand grip strength test also showed significant difference after exercise(P < 0.05). Conclusions: Healthy young adults can effectively perform various exercises commonly performed in daily life using EX1.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate a exercise combined with nutritional education for improving metabolic risk factor and dietary intakes in obese middle aged women. 35 obese (body mass index of at least ≥ 25 kg/m2 or %body fat ≥ 30%) middle aged women were recruited from public health center. For intervention participants, their height, weight, percentage of body fat, waist circumference, blood pressure, lipid profiles, insulin resistance index, and nutrition intakes were measured at before and after post the intervention. And change of the total energy intakes per week was measured during intervention. The subjects underwent a 12 weeks educational program including nutritional education one day per week and, aerobic exercise 3 days per week (walking). After 12 weeks exercise program combined with nutritional education, body weight (p=0.002), percentage of body fat (p<0.001), BMI (p<0.001), waist circumference (p<0.001), WHR (p=0.004), TC (p=0.004), AI (p=0.006), DBP (p=0.010), MAP (p=0.013), glucose (p=0.018), insulin (p=0.003), HOMA-IR (p<0.001) were significantly decreased and cardiorespiratory fitness was significantly (p<0.001) increased. And energy intake was significantly (p<0.001) decreased and nutritional intake and intake-style were improved through 12 weeks exercise program combined with nutritional education.
Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of increased physical activity (PA) regarding health-related quality of life (QOL) and nutrition intake in hemodialysis patients. Methods: The research was quasi-experimental using pre-test and posttest design. The participants were 60 patients, 30 each in the experimental and control group. The program was up to eight weeks long and involved two kinds of aerobic exercises: intradialytic aerobic exercise to be performed thrice a week and walking for up to seven days a week. The 60 patients undergoing hemodialysis for end-stage renal disease underwent assessment of International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ), 24-hour diet recall and a 12-item short-form health survey (SF-12; physical component summary score(PCS) and mental component summary score(MCS)) before and after the exercise program. Nutrition intake was assessed using CAN-2.0. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, 𝑥2 test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Results: In the experimental group, PA post-test scores were also significantly higher than the pre-test scores and the levels of physical component summary score (PCS) in QOL were significantly improved post-test, but the scores on nutrient intake did not improve. The levels of PCS were significant correlations animal protein, manganese, selenium, and Vitamin C. Although there was no group effect, total calorie of nutrition intake was higher than the comparison group. Conclusion: Combined intradialytic exercise and walking was found to be effective on PA, and PCS in QOL. Therefore, the findings of the current study may provide an appropriate guidance for encouraging exercise by hemodialysis patient.
The purposes of this study were to observe the effects of the exercise programs which have different order of walking and resistance exercises on the composition of the abdominal fat and the blood lipid profiles of the obese college women and to provide basic materials for the development of more effective and more efficient exercise program in order to reduce and prevent obesity. Classification of group, "A" group(resistance exercise after aerobic exercise) is a group of 12 people, "B" group(resistance exercise after aerobic exercise) is a group of 12 people. To determine the abdominal fat, intestine fat area, subcutaneous fat area, ratio of intestine fat area/subcutaneous fat area were analyzed, while for the blood lipid profiles, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipid protein, and low density lipid protein were analyzed. First, there was statistically significant difference in the interaction in the abdomen subcutaneous fat. In the post analysis, the Resistance first group showed significantly more reduction to confirm that there was difference according to the order of the exercises. Second, there was statistically significant difference in the interaction effects in the factor of triglyceride. In the post analysis, the Resistance first group only showed significant reduction in the triglyceride to confirm that resistance exercise followed by aerobics would be better for the reduction of the triglyceride.
