Deriving AR Technologies and Contents to Establish a Safety Management System in Railway Infrastructure (철도 인프라 안전 관리 시스템 구축을 위한 AR 기술 및 콘텐츠 도출)

  • With the recent growing importance over safety management the need for advanced and technical approaches for on-site safety inspection methods has increased. Railway construction is subject to its own particular set of temporal and spatial challenges due to its unique facilities and equipment. This study aimed to investigate the field characteristics of railway infrastructure and improve the conventional field safety management methods by identifying the most appropriate features of AR technology. Group interviews and surveys were conducted with field safety experts to derive the major problems and inspection needs. Subsequently, various features of AR, such as BIM model projection, and remote conferencing, were investigated to determine their applicability to address safety issues. As a result, four problems in the current safety management process, such as 'lack of time due to the conventional inspection method and inspection of areas that are difficult to access', and three major inspection types, such as 'observance of work procedures, status of installation, adequate dimensional spacing', were identified to be improved when adopting AR based techniques. Furthermore, AR technology utilizing plans to solve safety inspection problems and effectively manage major inspection types were proposed, and a follow up survey was conducted with the same field safety experts to derive the priority of technology development.

  • In order to prevent the global warming, Korea has had a ratification to the Kyoto Protocol which is specified the air pollution level should be lower the condition of the year 1990 until the year 2012, in hence the traffic system produced mostly the air pollution has been faced to big change. According to the reinforcement of higher level for environmental condition, alternative way to the conventional traffic system is required, so that is fuel cell technology of commercialized R&D program used by hydrogen fuel, and further for the optimized high energy efficiency it has been considered the advanced development of traffic system used the conventional railroad system. But it is moreover expected the huge amount of initial investment, so at the current, next new traffic system is needed. This study is for the improvement of urban traffic system in domestic which should be seriously changed for environmental friendly through the reduction of air pollution by fuel gases of vehicle and human convenience to be easily approached. In hence it is proposed the development of superior high efficiency-'Fuel-cell Rubber-tired Tram' system manufactured by the composite car-body.

  • Urban transit is one of the most effective ways for efficient operation and construction of an urban transit by composition system which is liked originally such as rolling-stock, power, signal and infrastructure. Urban rail transit system is running in domestic, imports major equipments from advanced countries and setup for maintenance. But it takes long time because it does each organizations and lines. Also, signal, power and track system apply different standard by each construction organizations it causes an increasing construction of cost accordingly it desperately needs a systematic countermeasure. Therefore standard specification of urban transit have been establishing and operatingfor efficient operation of urban transit and base technology security that is populace ride to become a base of state economy. After track, power and signal system will be announced. Standard specification become more, the importance of administrationof standards is emphasized more. Specification administrator’s the importance which use a computing support tool recently in railroad part in embossed and is predicted to be more such forward. Therefore we propose the effective method of management with track, power signal system by constructed data-base system.

  • There are increasing customer's needs for safe operation and comfort of trains for the passengers as trains are getting fast and developed with advanced components. To meet the needs we developed the system which is able to prevent possible risk elements by transverse vibrations during the train operation. System records the amplitude data of trains vibration and location data from GPS antenna in real time. The system is composed of 5 different functioning modules as following GCPU, GGWD, GIFD, GAID and GPSD. GAID module is detecting amplitude value of vibration which is sensed by bogie hunting sensor's. GFID gets location information where vibration data is detected with GPS Antenna. Once those data is prepared, GCPU testify it's amplitude and decides whether it send those data. When it sends those recorded data, those data are sent to control unit by MVB communication. we expect that this information will help operation and maintenance engineers improve the safety train services. This paper explains train transverse Vibrations data recording system and its major functions which can measure the amplitude of trains's data during the operation and introduces the configuration for the system setup.

  • A bi-modal tram has been developed to offer an advanced transportation service compared with existing vehicles. The All-Wheel-Steering system is applied to the bi-modal tram to satisfy the required steering performance because the bi-modal tram has extended length and articulated mechanism. An ECU for the steering system is essential to steer wheels on 2nd and 3rd axles by the specific AWS algorithm with the prescribed driving condition. The Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) system is planned for the purpose of evaluating the steering system of the bi-modal tram. There are kinematic links with the hydraulic actuator to steer wheels on each 2nd and 3rd axles and also same steering mechanism as the actual vehicle is in the HILS system. Controlling the movement of hydraulic actuator which reflects the lateral steering reaction force on each wheel is the key to realize the HILS system, but the reaction force is continuously changed according to various driving conditions. Therefore, the simulation through the multi-body dynamics model is used to obtain the required forces.

  • In this study, we investigated the operation of railroad fire fighting vehicles against fires on trains in a long railway tunnel. In recent years, long railway tunnels (more than 10 km in length) have been built and the number of such tunnels, such as the Geumjeong tunnel (20.3 km in length) on the Gyeongbu high speed line, Solan tunnel (16.7 km in length) on the Yeongdong line and Yulhyeon tunnel (50.3 km in length) on the Suseo high speed line which is scheduled to be opened in the second half of 2016, is increasing. Significant damage is to be expected, due to the increased evacuation time and limited accessibility of fire services when the train is stopped by an urgent fire in the tunnel. Special fire fighting vehicles capable of running on rails have been developed and operated in overseas advanced countries. Therefore, a fire-response system using Unimog vehicles, which can run on road and rail, instead of road vehicles, is necessary. The characteristics of the railway tunnel and thermal environmental change caused by a train fire in a tunnel were analyzed in this study. Also, the operational requirements of the railroad fire fighting vehicles were evaluated by taking into account the specifications of the railroad fire fighting vehicles under development.

  • The Advanced countries including Japan, USA and European countries are adopting automatic system(e.g., auto-measurement using CCD camera) for measuring pantograph sliding plate and wheel abrasion to minimize manpower for E.M.U(Electric Multiple Unit) inspection and maintenance as part of management rationalization of railroad Corporation since late 1980's. In Korea, as part of scheme of business rationalization, automatic system for measuring pantograph sliding plate and wheel abrasion started to draw industry attention since late 1990s, and the system started to be installed in newly built depots of Korea Railroad Corporation since 2002. This study hopefully provides the base for realizing business rationalization and applying the advanced technology developed by Korea, the country of powerful IT basis, to overseas railroad organizations by examining automatic system for measuring pantograph sliding plate abrasion using existing CCD cameras produced domestically and in foreign countries to study cases(organizations in Korea) for improvement of measurement, management and inspection of pantograph sliding plate abrasion using CCD cameras with new cutting-edge technology; and by applying the study result to railroad organizations in metropolitan areas in Korea.

Dynamic Behavior Evaluation of Pile-Supported Slab Track System by Centrifuge Model Test (원심모형 실험을 통한 궤도지지말뚝구조의 동적 거동 평가)

  • Dynamic centrifuge model test was conducted to evaluate the dynamic stability of the pile-supported slab track method during dynamic railway loading and earthquake loading. The centrifuge tests were carried out for various condition of embankment height and soft ground depth. Based on test results, we found that the bending moment was increased with embankment height and decreased with soft ground depth. In addition, it was confirmed that the pile-supported slab track system could have dynamic stability for short-period seismic loading. However, in case of long-period seismic loading, such as Hachinohe earthquake, the observed maximum bending moment reached to pile cracking moment at the return period of 2,400 year earthquake. The criterion of ratio between embankment height and soft ground depth was suggested for dynamic stability of pile-supported slab track system.

  • Ultra-speed tube train, which runs in vacuum atmosphere to overcome aero-dynamic dragging force, is considered as a high-speed ground transportation system to back up long-distance air travel. To realize the ultra-speed tube train, feasibility study of currently available Maglev technologies especially for propulsion and levitation system is needed. Propulsion by linear synchronous motor(LSM) and levitation by electro-dynamic suspension(EDS) which are utilized in the Japan's MLX system could be one of candidated technologies for ultra-speed tube train. In the LSM-EDS system, the key component is superconducting magnet, and its reliability and performance is very important to guarantee the safe-operation of Maglev. As the initiative of the feasibility study, this paper deals with the basic structure of superconducting magnet and core technologies to design and operate it. And by surveying the current R&D achievement in Korea, the nation's capability to develop advanced superconducting magnet for Maglev is presented.

  • According to introduce KTX in Korea, rail-road bridge section of KTX was increased approximately 50% of the total length. Bridge is required periodic inspection and check to prevent accident and hazard because various damage which have effects on traffic and replacement of damaged parts is difficult. Specifically, the train as large-scale transportation because accidents led to great damage, preventing these accidents are critical. Well-organized management and maintenance systems are required to prevent the accidents. In the case of roadway bridge, bridge inspection vehicle is used to deploy inspectors in roadway bridge. However, this method requires a lot of time and efforts, and inspectors are exposed to potential hazard. Also, surrounding environment like poor lighting system or electric wire could harm the inspector while repairing. Due to this reason, automatic repairing and inspecting system have been introduced to replace the old methods. Management system of the railroad bridge track for trains uses various advanced equipments, but whereas roadway bridge management system is lacking these efforts. As a result of that, this study looks over the existing management method. and review the method to apply the Bridge Inspection Robot in railroad bridge. Moreover, this study suggests future management technology using inspection robot.
