  • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is one of the important components to form a smart-gird, which is an advanced power system by combining the power system with the communication systems. This AMI makes it possible to exchange information between operators and consumers for the efficient and reliable operation of the power system through a smart meter or a In-Home Display. However, according to the increase of the demanded information such as the power quality, the accurate load-profile, and the billing data to help customers manage their power consumption, it is necessary to gather more accurate analytical data from each house appliances and transfer it to the smart meter for synthesizing the information and controlling each loads. In this paper, the development of the wireless data acquisition device for the individual load data metering, which is connected with the smart meter for advanced functions, is proposed. AVR, a kind of microcontroller, and Bluetooth are used and integrated into the proposed the wireless data acquisition device to transmit the detailed power data (voltage and current) to the smart meter. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, a hardware experiment is carried out including the confirmation of the possibility for providing the more various information by applying analysis algorithms to the obtained data. Also, the application structure of the wireless data acquisition device to gather the data from the various house appliances is presented.

  • The intermediate connectors play crucial roles in the performance of tandem organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) because they are required to facilitate charge carrier transport and to guarantee transparency for light transmission and deposition compatibility. Understanding the physical properties of the intermediate connector is not only fundamentally important but is also crucial to developing high-efficiency organic devices with a tandem structure. In this study, several effective intermediate connectors in tandem OLEDs using a doped or non-doped organic p-n heterojunction were systematically investigated by studying their interfacial electronic structures and corresponding device characteristics. The working mechanisms of the intermediate connectors are discussed herein by referring to their relevant energy levels with respect to those of the neighboring organic layers. The factors affecting the operation of the intermediate connectors in tandem OLEDs, as demonstrated herein, provide guidance for the identification of new materials and device architectures for high-performance devices.

  • A simple method of fabricating out-coupling structures was demonstrated via solution-processing to enhance light extraction from organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Scattering layers were easily obtained by spin-coating an $SiO_2$ sol solution that contained $TiO_2$ particles. By introducing the scattering layer and the solution-processible corrugated structure as internal and external extraction layers, the OLEDs showed increased external quantum efficiency without a change in the electroluminescence spectrum compared to conventional devices. Using these solution-processible out-coupling structures, nearly all-solution-processed OLEDs with enhanced light extraction could be fabricated. The light extraction enhancement is attributed to the suppression by the out-coupling structures of the light-trapping that arose at the interface of the glass substrate and the air.

  • Two novel copper(II) complexes, [Cu(dmamhp)$(H_2O)_2(SO_4)]_n$ (1) and [Cu(dmamhp)$(NO_3)_2(H_2O)]{\cdot}H_2O$ (2) [dmamhp = 2-dimethylaminomethyl-3-hydroxypyridine] have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1 displays a double one-dimensional chains structure, in which each chain is constituted with the distorted octahedral copper(II) complex bridged through bidentate sulfate ligands resulting in a coordination polymer. The bifurcated hydrogen bonds and $\pi-\pi$ interactions play important roles in the formation of the double chains structure. On the other hand, compound 2 adopts a distorted square pyramidal geometry around copper(II) ion and exists as a discrete monomer. There are intermolecular bifurcated hydrogen bonds and $\pi-\pi$ stacking interactions between the monomeric units. The magnetic properties revealed that the paramagnetic behaviors are dominantly manifested and there are no intermolecular magnetic interactions in both compound 1 and 2.

  • A highly simplified backlight unit mainly composed of diffractive grating in sub-micron order imprinted light-guide plate (LGP) is proposed for edge-lit backlight unit. Optical characteristics of the imprinted LGP are examined by RCWA and the performance is verified through Monte Carlo simulation. Results show that the diffraction efficiency, luminous flux and its uniformity over the area are significantly affected by the angle of incident ray. Consequently couples of design considerations are additionally proposed to enhance luminous flux. In terms of peak luminance and out-coupling luminous flux, the experimental results are agreed well with the performance simulation. Finally, compared with optical characteristics of conventional backlight unit, we could conclude that the proposed simplified backlight unit made of diffractive grating imprinted light-guide plate is a good substitute for the conventional backlight unit.

  • Advanced static DC magnetron sputtering methods based on the magnet wobbling technique were investigated to achieve highly uniform and homogeneous metallization layers. The novel split sputter mode (SSM) method, wherein the deposition process is divided into two distinct steps, enables the AKT rotary cathode technology to provide excellent layer properties, while keeping a high production throughput. The effectiveness of theSSMtechnique was demonstrated through copper-coated large-area substrates.

  • A fiber diffuser sheet based on poly (ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) and poly (methylpentene) (PMP) has shown potential for liquid crystal display backlight units, but these materials have an interfacial adhesion problem. To improve the interfacial adhesion between the fibers and matrix components, we have proposed the use of amorphous poly (cyclohexane-1,4-dimethylene terephthalate) (Tritan) instead of PEN. Furthermore, the fabrication processes have been optimized and simplified to improve the optical and mechanical properties of the sheet. As a result, the most effective fiber content for achieving the best haze characteristics of a sample consisting of Tritan and PMP has been identified.

  • IP Multicast can efficiently provide enormous bandwidth savings by enabling sources to send a single copy of a message to multiple recipients who explicitly want to receive the information. But due to the complexity of IP multicast and its fundamental differences from unicast, there are not very many tools available fer monitoring and debugging multicast networks, and only a few experts understand the tools that do exist. This thesis proposes a Multicast Routing Debugger (MRD) system that monitor the status of a multicast network. This system is aimed to multicast-related faults detection. In thesis, first, we define the set of information that should be monitored. Second, the method is developed to take out such information from multicast routers. Third, MRD system is prototyped to collect, process information from heterogeneous routers on a multicast network and to display the various status of the network comprehensively. The prototype of MRD system is implemented and deployed. We perform experiments with several scenarios. Experimental results show we can detect various problems as information that we define is monitored. The MRD system is simple to use, web-based and intuitive tool that can monitor the status of a specific multicast network.
