  • Recently, automobile industries have developed ADAS, smart cars, connected cars, automated driving systems, which use a variety of sensor systems - ultrasonics, cameras, lidars and radars - and communication systems. It is necessary to examine the electromagnetic immunity of vehicles equipped with those systems. The electromagnetic immunity tests are carried out in an electromagnetic semi anechoic chamber, which is cut off from the outside. It is difficult to create test environments in which the radar sensor systems of vehicles work properly in the test chamber. In this study, test jigs were designed and tested and as a result they are shown to be effective to create test environments for electromagnetic immunity tests of vehicles equipped with radar sensors. We also proposed additional safety standards for immunity tests of vehicles with radar systems that currently do not exist.

  • The importance of air quality monitoring is rapidly increasing. Even though state-of-the-art air quality monitoring technologies such as mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, and optical measurement enable high-fidelity measurement of air pollutants, they cannot be widely used for portable or personalized platforms because of their high cost and complexity. Recently, personalized and localized environmental monitoring, rather than global and averaged environmental monitoring, has drawn greater attention with the advancement of mobile telecommunication technologies. Here, micro- and nano-technologies enable highly integrated and ultra-compact sensors to meet the needs of personalized environmental monitoring. In this paper, several examples of MEMS-based gas sensors for compact and personalized air quality monitoring are explained. Additionally, the principles and usage of functional nanomaterials are discussed for highly sensitive and selective gas sensors.

  • This paper proposes an advanced signal processing circuit for a fingerprint sensor based on ridge resistivity. A novel fingerprint integrated sensor using ridge resistivity variation resulting from ridges and valleys on the fingertip is presented. The pixel level simple detection circuit converts from a small and variable sensing current to binary voltage out effectively. The sensor circuit blocks were designed and simulated in a standard CMOS 0.35 ${\mu}m$ process.

  • With the increasing demand for the development of human pose estimation, such as human-computer interaction and human activity recognition, there have been numerous approaches to detect the 2D poses of people in images more efficiently. Despite many years of human pose estimation research, the estimation of human poses with images remains difficult to produce satisfactory results. In this study, we propose a robust 2D human body pose estimation method using an RGB camera sensor. Our pose estimation method is efficient and cost-effective since the use of RGB camera sensor is economically beneficial compared to more commonly used high-priced sensors. For the estimation of upper-body joint positions, semantic segmentation with a fully convolutional network was exploited. From acquired RGB images, joint heatmaps accurately estimate the coordinates of the location of each joint. The network architecture was designed to learn and detect the locations of joints via the sequential prediction processing method. Our proposed method was tested and validated for efficient estimation of the human upper-body pose. The obtained results reveal the potential of a simple RGB camera sensor for human pose estimation applications.

  • People currently spend more than 80% of their time indoors; therefore, the management of indoor air quality has become an important issue. The contamination of indoor air can cause sick house syndrome and various environmental diseases such as atopy and nephropathy. Formaldehyde gas, which is the main contaminant of indoor air, is lethal even with microscopic exposure; however, it is commonly used as an adhesive and waterproofing agent for indoor building materials. Therefore, there is a need for a gas sensor capable of detecting trace amounts of formaldehyde gas. In this review, we summarize recent studies on metal oxide-based semiconductor gas sensors for formaldehyde gas detection, methods to improve the gas-sensing properties of metal oxides of various dimensions, and the effects of catalysts for the detection of parts-per-billion level gases. Through this, we discuss the necessary characteristics of the metal oxidebased semiconductors for gas sensors for the development of next-generation sensors.

  • Rhodamine chromophore/fluorophore have been attracted to many researchers due to its excellent photophysical properties. In this study, we have designed and synthesized a strong emissive fluorescent dye chemosensor for toxic elements. A rhodamine-based sensor was prepared by incorporation the rhodamine fluorophore and several functional host groups with high affinity to hazardous metal and anion. This sensor shows a high selectivity and an excellent sensitivity and is a dual-responsive colorimetric and fluorescent metal/anion-specific sensor. In addition, the 1:1 binding mode was proposed based on Job's plot method. Finally, computational calculation was simulated and calculated to approach for HOMO/LUMO of this dye chemosensor.

  • Improvements in wireless sensor network (WSN) technology have resulted in a large number of applications. WSNs have been mainly used for monitoring applications, but they are also applicable to target tracking, health care, and monitoring with multimedia data. Nodes are generally deployed in environments where the exhausted batteries of sensor nodes are difficult to charge or replace. The primary goal of communication protocols in WSNs is to maximize energy efficiency in order to prolong network lifetime. In this paper, various medium access control (MAC) protocols for synchronous/asynchronous and single/multi-channel WSNs are investigated. Single-channel MAC protocols are categorized into synchronous and asynchronous approaches, and the advantages and disadvantages of each protocol are presented. The different features required in multi-channel WSNs compared to single-channel WSNs are also investigated, and surveys on multi-channel MAC protocols proposed for WSNs are provided. Then, existing broadcast schemes in such MAC protocols and efficient multi-hop broadcast protocols proposed for WSNs are provided. The limitations and challenges in many communication protocols according to this survey are pointed out, which will help future researches on the design of communication protocols for WSNs.

  • $Au@TiO_2$ core-shell decorated rGO nanocomposite (NC) was prepared using a simple solvothermal method followed by heat treatment for gas sensor application. The crystal structure and morphology of the composites were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy, respectively. The $NO_2$ sensing response of the $Au@TiO_2/rGO$ NC was tested at operating temperatures from $250^{\circ}C$ to $500^{\circ}C$, and was compared with those of the bare rGO and $Au@TiO_2$ core-shell NPs. The $Au@TiO_2/rGO$ NC-based sensor showed a far higher response than the rGO or $Au@TiO_2$ core-shell based sensors, with the maximum response detected when the operating temperature was $400^{\circ}C$. This improved response was due to the high rGO gas absorption capability for $NO_2$ gas and the catalytic effect of $Au@TiO_2$ core-shell NPs in oxidizing $NO_2$ to $NO_3$.

  • This study presents a new methodology for realtime tool breakage detection by sensor fusion concept of two hall sensor and an acoustic emission (AE) sensor. Spindle induction motor torque of CNC Lathe during machining is estimated by two hall sensor. Estimated motor torque instead of a tool dynamometer was used to measure the cutting torque and tool breakage detection. A burst of AE signal was used as a triggering signal to inspect the cutting torque. A significant drop of cutting torque was utilized to detect tool breakage. The algorithm was implemented on a NI DAQ (Data Acquisition) board for in-process tool breakage detection. The result of experiment showed an excellent monitoring capability of the proposed tool breakage detection system. This system is available tool breakage monitoring through internet also provides this system's user with current cutting torque of induction motor.
