Wireless links for global positioning system receivers

  • Given an object, its positioning in the space is a main concern in structural monitoring and a required feedback in structural health monitoring, structural control and robotics. In addition, to make the sensor unit wireless is a crucial issue for advanced applications. This paper deals with the exploitation of wireless transmission technology to long-term monitoring GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers - like the Leica GMX 902 and the Leica GRX 1200-pro. These GPS receivers consist of five parts: antenna, receiver, user client computer, interface and power supply. The antenna is mounted on the object to be monitored and is connected with the receiver by a coaxial-cable through which the radio frequency signals are transmitted. The receiver unit acquires, tracks and demodulates the satellite signals and provides, through an interface which in this paper is made wireless, the resulting GPS raw data to the user client computer for being further processed by a suitable positioning algorithm. The power supply reaches the computer by a wired link, while the other modules rely on batteries re-charged by power harvesting devices. Two wireless transmission systems, the 24XStream and the CC1110, are applied to replace the cable transmission between the receiver and the user client computer which up to now was the only market offer. To verify the performance and the reliability of this wireless transmission system, some experiments are conducted. The results show a successful cable replacement.

등간격 선형어레이와 등간격 원형어레이 레이더를 위한 ESPRIT 표적 위치 추정 기법 (ESPRIT target position estimation with uniform linear array and uniform circular array)

  • 이 논문에서 우리는 송신기와 수신기에 각각 등간격 선형 어레이 (ULA : Uniform Linear Array)와 등간격 원형 어레이(UCA : Uniform Circular Array)를 사용하는 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) 레이더 시스템을 위한 ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameter via Rotational Invariance Technique) 알고리듬 기반 표적 위치 추정 기법을 제안한다. 수신 안테나가 등간격 선형 어레이인 경우의 ESPRIT과 달리 등간격 원형 어레이인 경우 부어레이의 수신 신호 벡터 간 순환 불변성 (Rotational Invariance)이 만족하지 않는다. 이를 해결하기 위한 연구가 진행되었으나 송신각 추정 문제는 고려되지 않았다. 이 논문에서는 송신 안테나와 수신 안테나를 모두 고려한 ESPRIT 알고리듬을 제안하여 송신 고도각, 수신 고도각, 그리고 수신 방위각을 동시에 추정하는 방법을 소개하고자 한다.

CMOS 기반 BPSK 수신기와 반사형 위상 천이기를 이용한 QPSK 복조기 설계 (Design of QPSK Demodulator Using CMOS BPSK Receiver and Reflection-Type Phase Shifter)

  • 본 논문에서는 일반적인 six-port 수신기의 한 구성 성분인 BPSK 수신기와 반사형 위상 천이기를 이용하여 QPSK 신호를 복조하는 방법을 제안, 검증하고자 한다. 기존의 일반적인 곱셈 혼합 방식이나 덧셈 혼합 방식의 I/Q 복조기는 혼합기부터 parallel-to-serial 변환기까지 I/Q 경로가 분리되어 있다. 본 논문에서는 I/Q baseband 신호 경로의 분리가 없는 새로운 I/Q 복조기를 제안한다. 이는 일반적인 수신기에 비하여 baseband 경로의 회로 크기와 전력 소모를 반으로 줄일 수 있는 장점이 있다. 또한, 데이터 복조 후 parallel-to-serial 변환기가 사용될 필요가 없다. 설계된 복조기 모듈은 L-band 반송파 주파수의 데이터 율 20 Mbps까지의 QPSK 변조 신호를 성공적으로 복조하였다.

Implementation and Performance Analysis of Multi-GNSS Signal Collection System using Single USRP

  • In this paper, a system that can collect GPS L1 C/A, GLONASS G1, and BDS B1I signals with single front-end receiver was implemented using a universal software radio peripheral (USRP) and its performance was verified. To acquire the global navigation satellite system signals, hardware was configured using USRP, antenna, external low-noise amplifier, and external oscillator. In addition, a value of optimum local oscillator frequency was selected to sample signals from three systems with L1-band with a low sampling rate as much as possible. The comparison result of C/N0 between the signal collection system using the proposed method and commercial receiver using double front-end showed that the proposed system had 0.7 ~ 0.8dB higher than that of commercial receiver for GPS L1 C/A signals and 1 ~ 2 dB lower than that of commercial receiver for GLONASS G1 and BDS B1I. Through the above results, it was verified that signals collected using the three systems with a single USRP had no significant error with that of commercial receiver. In the future, it is expected that the proposed system will be combined with software-defined radio (SDR) and advanced to a receiver that has a re-configuration channel.

LTE-Advanced에서 단말간 직접 통신을 위한 영역 정보 기반 자원할당 및 전력 제어 기법 (Resource Allocation and Power Control for Device-to-Device Communication in LTE-Advanced Based on User Area Information)

  • 본 논문에서는 LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced 상향링크에서 제한된 자원을 보다 효율적으로 사용하기 위하여 하나의 셀룰러 링크와 다수의 D2D (Device-to-Device) 링크가 자원을 공유하는 시나리오를 고려하였다. 이때, 발생하는 간섭현상을 해결하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 eNB (evolved Node B)에게 영역 정보를 알릴 수 있는 DME (Discovery and Management Entity)라는 보조 장치를 고정위치에 설치한 후, 동일한 자원을 공유하는 CUE (Cellular User Equipment)가 DUE Rx (D2D UE Receiver)에게 주는 간섭을 회피하기 위하여 DME의 영역 정보기반 자원할당 기법을 제안하였고 더 나아가, 앞에서 제기한 영역 정보를 기반으로 자원을 할당한 후, 동일한 자원을 공유하는 D2D 링크들 사이의 간섭을 완화하기 위한 전력제어 기법을 제안하였다. 모의실험을 통하여 비교 및 분석한 결과 D2D 통신의 안정성이 향상되었고 전체시스템 성능도 우수하다는 것을 검증하였다.

RF 신호 수집/방송 장치를 활용한 의사위성 기반 광역보정시스템의 후처리 성능 검증 (Performance Verification of Psudolite-based Augmentation System Using RF signal logger and broadcaster)

  • 광역보정시스템은 GPS와 같은 위성항법을 이용하는 사용자의 정확성, 무결성을 개선시키기 위하여 고안된 시스템이다. 본 논문에서는 개발된 의사위성 기반의 광역보정시스템의 전체 구조에 대하여 설명하고, 후처리 기반으로 상용 수신기에 대하여 성능 테스트를 수행하는 실험 방법 및 결과에 대하여 설명한다. 보정정보 생성을 위하여 총 5개의 NDGPS 기준국에서 수집되는 데이터가 활용되었으며 이를 광역기준국, 중앙처리국 소프트웨어에서 처리하였다. 생성된 보정정보는 SP3, IONEX 데이터와 비교하여 정확도를 테스트하였다. 상용 수신기 실험에서는 사용자의 RF 신호를 수집, 보정정보를 생성하였으며, 이후에 RF신호와 보정정보가 실린 의사위성 신호를 동시에 방송하여 테스트를 수행하였다. 테스트는 3대의 상용수신기를 활용하여 수행되었으며 MSAS, GPS 단독 측위 수신기와 비교하여 성능을 검증하였다. 각 수신기의 위치해 출력 결과로부터 위치오차를 비교하였으며 보정정보를 적용함으로써 향상된 위치해가 출력됨을 확인하였다.

Communications Link Design and Analysis of the NEXTSat-1 for SoH File and Mission Data Using CAN Bus, UART and SerDesLVDS

  • The communications link in a space program is a crucial point for upgrading its performance by handling data between spacecraft bus and payloads, because spacecraft's missions are related to the data handling mechanism using communications ports such as a controlled area network bus (CAN Bus) and a universal asynchronous receiver and transmitter (UART). The NEXTSat-1 has a lot of communications ports for performing science and technology missions. However, the top level system requirements for the NEXTSat-1 are mass and volume limitations. Normally, the communications for units shall be conducted by using point to point link which require more mass and volume to interconnect. Thus, our approach for the novel communications link in the NEXTSat-1 program is to use CAN and serializer and deserializer low voltage differential signal (SerDesLVDS) to meet the system requirements of mass and volume. The CAN Bus and SerDesLVDS were confirmed by using already defined communications link for our missions in the NEXTSat-1 program and the analysis results were reported in this study in view of data flow and size analysis.

원형 편파를 가지는 GPS 수신용 소형 4중 Inverted-F 안테나 연구 (Compact Quadruple Inverted-F Antenna(QIFA) with Circular Polarization for GPS Receiver)

  • 본 논문에서는 원형 편파를 가지는 GPS 수신용 소형 4중 Inverted-F 안테나(QIFA)를 제안한다. 소형화된 4-포트 안테나의 효율이 감소하는 문제를 해결하기 위하여 포트에서의 반사 계수와 포트 간의 상호 결합을 함께 고려하는 새로운 정합 방법을 이론적 해석을 통해 제안하고, 모의 실험을 통해 입증한다. 제안하는 QIFA는 $120^{\circ}$ 이상의 3-dB 빔 폭을 가지며, 15 dB 이상의 전후전계비 특성을 보인다. 또한, 제안하는 QIFA는 $10{\times}10{\times}12\;mm^3$에서 -2.5 dBic의 최대 이득과 0.5 dB 이하의 축비를 가진다.

Experimental investigation on No-Vent Fill (NVF) process using liquid Nitrogen

  • For a long-term space mission, filling process of cryogenic liquid propellant is operated on a space vehicle in space. A vent process during transfer and filling of cryogenic propellant is needed to maintain the fuel tank pressure at a safe level due to its volatile characteristic. It is possible that both liquid and vapor phases of the cryogenic propellant are released simultaneously to outer space when the vent process occurs under low gravity environment. As a result, the existing filling process with venting not only accompanies wasting liquid propellant, but also consumes extra fuel to compensate for the unexpected momentum originated from the vent process. No-Vent Fill (NVF) method, a filling procedure without a venting process of cryogenic liquid propellant, is an attractive technology to perform a long-term space mission. In this paper, the preliminary experimental results of the NVF process are described. The experimental set-up consists of a 9-liter cryogenic liquid receiver tank and a supply tank. Liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) is used to simulate the behavior of cryogenic propellant. The whole situation in the receiver tank during NVF is monitored. The major experimental parameter in the experiment is the mass flow rate of the liquid nitrogen. The experimental results demonstrate that as the mass flow rate is increased, NVF process is conducted successfully. The quality and the inlet temperature of the injected $LN_2$ are affected by the mass flow rate. These parameters determine success of NVF.

Impact of Power Control Optimization on the System Performance of Relay Based LTE-Advanced Heterogeneous Networks

  • Decode-and-forward relaying is a promising enhancement to existing radio access networks and is already standardized in 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) as a part of long term evolution (LTE)-Advanced Release 10. Two inband operation modes of relay nodes are supported, namely type 1 and type lb. Relay nodes promise to offer considerable gain for system capacity or coverage, depending on the deployment prioritization, in a cost-efficient way. Yet, in order to fully exploit the benefits of relaying, the inter-cell interference which is increased due to the presence of relay nodes should be limited. Moreover, large differences in the received power levels from different users should be avoided. The goal is to keep the receiver dynamic range low in order to retain the orthogonality of the single carrier-frequency division multiple access system. In this paper, an evaluation of the relay based heterogeneous deployment within the LTE-Advanced uplink framework is carried out by applying the standardized LTE Release 8 power control scheme both at evolved node B and relay nodes. In order to enhance the overall system performance, different power control optimization strategies are proposed for 3GPP urban and suburban scenarios. A comparison between type 1 and type 1b relay nodes is as well presented to study the effect of the relaying overhead on the system performance in inband relay deployments. Comprehensive system level simulations show that the power control is a crucial means to increase the cell edge and system capacities, to mitigate inter-cell interference and to adjust the receiver dynamic range for both relay node types.
