Compact battery-less guest guidance system at the EXPO 2005, Aichi Japan

  • Guest guidance system based on the compact battery-less information terminal, Aimulet, which has been developed by the authors of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan. Conventional Aimulet, which is Aimulet ver.1 or CoBIT, has features of location and direction sensitive information service device without batteries. On the other hand, the Aimulet has two subjects, one is multiplex and demultiplex of some contents, and the other is operation under sunshine. Former subject is of solved by the wavelength multiplex technique using LED emitter with different wavelength and dielectric optical filters. Latter subject is solved by new micro spherical solar cells with a visible-light-eliminating optical filter and a new design of light irradiation. These techniques are applied to the EXPO 2005, Aichi Japan and introduced in public. Aimulet GH is Former technique is applied on Aimulet GH, which is used in Orange Hall of the Global House, scientific museum with a fossil of a frozen mammoth.

Diagnosticity of Product Names and Product Evaluations in M-Shopping

  • With the limited product information available in the m-shopping context, product-naming strategies affect consumer choices by expressing the key product features or the brand's images. Given the increasing dominance of the mobile commerce in consumption across various product categories, few studies have examined the role of product naming in consumer choices in the m-shopping. In filling the research gap, this study empirically analyzes the influence of the perceived diagnosticity of product names in m-shopping on consumer attitude towards the product. Moreover, the study tests the moderating influences of the individual characteristics of consumers (i.e., age, gender, and m-shopping experience) in the dynamics of the perceived diagnosticity impacting the product evaluations. The results of the study using an online survey reveal that the perceived diagnosticity of the product names significantly increases consumer attitude towards the product. Additionally, the moderating effects of gender, age, and m-shopping experience are all found significant: (1) The positive influence of the perceived diagnosticity of the product names is greater for males than for females. (2) The older the respondent, the more statistically significant the positive influence on diagnosticity. (3) The more respondents having m-shopping experience, the more positive the impact of the diagnosticity. Implications and limitations of the study are discussed.

Image Based 3D Reconstruction of Texture-less Objects for VR Contents

  • Recent development in virtual and augmented reality increases the demand for content in many different fields. One of the fast ways to create content for VR is 3D modeling of real objects. In this paper we propose a system to reconstruct three-dimensional models of real objects from the set of two-dimensional images under the assumption that the subject does not has distinct features. We explicitly consider an object that is made of one or more surfaces and radiant constant energy isotropically. We design a low cost portable multi camera rig system that is capable of capturing images simultaneously from all cameras. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, comparison is made between 3D model and a CAD model. A simple algorithm is also proposed to acquire original texture or color of the subject. Using best pattern found after the experiments, 3D model of the Pyeongchang Olympic Mascot "Soohorang" is created to use as VR content.

  • On the electricity consumption in Korea, the lighting sector takes about 17% of annual total electricity consumptions. In the midst of higher interests on energy conservation measures, design and choice of energy-saving lighting fixtures have been more important. With growth of technology-intensive industries like advanced material, semiconductor, and biotechnology from the 1980s, needs for clean room and thus illumination at clean rooms have been increased. In this paper, development, specification, and features of a Teardrop LED(hereinafter TD LED) lighting fixture as replacement of Teardrop florescent lighting one that has been popularly installed at clean rooms were presented. Also we performed the economic analysis of return on investment(ROI) about energy savings by the installation of the TD LED lighting fixture at a new-built clean room. The economic analysis showed that the new-developed TD LED lighting fixture would be able to withdraw the initial installation cost within 4 years. Lastly, improvement directions and development plans of the next TD LED lighting fixture for wider applications at clean rooms were described.

  • This paper presents a new scheme of neural network controller to improve to improve the robustuous of robot manipulator using digital signal processors. Digital processors, DSPs, are micro-processors that are particularly developed for fast numerical computations involving sums and products of variables. Digital version of most advanced control algorithms can be defined as sums and producrs of measured variables, thus it can be programmed and executed through DSPs. In addition, DSPs are as fist in computation as most 32-bit micro-processors and yet at a fraction of their prices. These features make DSPs a viable computational tool in digital implementation of sophisticated controllers. During past decade it was proposed the well-established theorys for the adaptive control of linear systems, but there exits relativly little gensral theoral for the adaptive control of nonlinear systems. Perforating of the proposed controller is illustrated. This paper describes a new approach to the design of adaptive controller and implementation of real-time control for assembling robotic manipulator using digital signal processor. Development of Performance Evaluation Metrics of Concurrency Control in Object-Oriented Database Systems

  • Object-oriented databases (OODBs) canbe used for many non-traditional database application areas such as computer-aided design, etc. Usually those application areas require advanced modeling power for expressing complicated relationships among data sets. OODBs have more distinguished features than the traditional relational database systems. One of the distinguished characteristics of OODBs is class hierarchy (also called inheritance hierarchy). A class hierarchy in an OODB means that a class can hand down the definitions of the class to the subclass of the class. In other words, a class is allowed to inherit the definitions of the class from the superclass. In this paper, we present performance evaluation metrics for class hierarchy in OODBs from a concurrency control perspective. The proposed performance metrics are developed to determine which concurrency control scheme in OODBs can be used for a given class hierarchy. In this study, in order to develop performance metrics, we use class hierarchy structure (both of single inheritance and multiple inheritance), and data access frequency for each class. The proposed performance metrics will be also used to compare performance evaluation for various concurrency control techniques.

  • As one of the advanced design features of the APR1400, direct vessel injection (DVI) system is being considered instead of conventional cold leg injection (CLI) system. It is known that the DVI system greatly enhances the reliability of the emergency core cooling (ECC) system. However, there is still a dispute on its performance in terms of water delivery to the reactor core during the reflood phase of a large-break loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA). Thus, experimental validation is under progress. In this paper, test results of direct ECC bypass performed in the steam-water test facility tailed MIDAS (Multi-dimensional Investigation in Downcomer Annulus Simulation) are presented. The test condition is determined, based on the preliminary analysis of TRAC code, by applying the ‘modified linear scaling method’with the l/4.93 length scale . From the tests, ECC direct bypass fraction, steam condensation rate and information on the flow distribution in the upper annulus downcomer region are obtained.

Adaptive control technique is essential for providing a stable and robust performance for application of robot control. The proposed neuro control algorithm is one of learning a model based error back-propagation scheme using Lyapunov stability analysis method. The proposed adaptive-neuro control scheme is illustrated to be a efficient control scheme for implementation of real-time control of robot system by the simulation and experiment.

  • The ultrasonic welding is with features of high electric conductivity and hot conductivity when it is used in metallic bond, high electric conductivity and hot conductivity when it is used in various metallic bonds, excellent quality when it is used for advanced junction, easiness when it is used in various metallic bonds, being needless for the exhaustive material and being benefit for the environment. Currently the use of ultrasonic welding is increasing in the industrial fields such as the automobile battle, the refrigerator, the air conditioner, the battery and the solar cell junction. But the production ability is insufficient in our country and it is necessary to explore the core technology of the ultrasonic welding. In this paper, the output LC resonance filter and 35kHz squal wave onion occurrence Full Bridge plans was designed. The output examination of the ultrasonic oscillator and the ultrasonic welding examination were done. The method for getting more smooth result in the ultrasonic welding machine system was researched.

  • The SSC-K system analysis code is under development at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) as a part of the KALIMER project. The SSC-K code is being used as the principal tool for analyzing a variety of off-normal conditions or accidents of the preliminary KALIMER design. The SSC-K code features a multiple-channel core representation coupled with a point kinetics model with reactivity feedback. It provides a detailed, one-dimensional thermal-hydraulic simulation of the primary and secondary sodium coolant circuits, as well as the balance-of-plant steam/water circuit. Recently a two-dimensional hot pool model was incorporated into SSC-K for analysis of thermal stratification phenomena in the hot pool. In addition, SSC-K contains detailed models for the passive decay heat removal system and a generalized plant control system. The SSC-K code has also been applied to the computational engine for an interactive simulation of the KALIMER plant. This paper presents an overview of the recent activities concerned with SSC-K code model development This paper focuses on both descriptions of the newly adopted thermal hydraulic and neutronic models, and applications to KALIMER analyses for typical anticipated transients without scram.
