이온교환 칼럼 충진비의 변화가 도금폐수 중 니켈이온 흡착에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Packing Density of ion-Exchange on the Nickel Adsorption Column in Electroplating Rinse Water)

  • 술폰산형 섬유이온교환체를 이용하여 도금 폐수 중 니켈 이온 분리를 위해 각각의 조건에 따른 니켈 이온에 대한 흡착 특성을 관찰하였다. 술폰산형 섬유이온교환체의 함수율은 술폰화도 극성이 클수록 크게 나타났으며 이온교환용량은 술폰화도가 증가함에 따라 증가하였으며 술폰화도 16%에서 3.38 meq/g로 높게 나타났다. 니켈이온의 흡착은 pH 변화에 따라 크게 변화하지 않았고 모든 흡착은 10분 이내에 약 7.5 mg/min의 흡착속도로 매우 빠르게 평형에 도달하였다. 재생 시 흡착용량은 7회까지 3.15 meq/g으로 거의 100% 가까이 탈착되었으며 그 이상에서는 2.01 meq/g으로 약간 감소하는 것으로 보아 본 연구에 사용한 이온교환체는 내구성에 문제가 없는 것으로 판단되었다. 한편 흡착평형 시간은 L/D의 값이 증가함에 따라 선형적으로 증가하였으며, 최대 흡착용량은 각각 2.71∼3.01 meq/g으로 약간 증가하였고 L/D의 변화에 크게 영향이 없는 것으로 보아 L/D<2로 흡착칼럼의 설계가 가능할 것으로 사료되었다. 또한 이온교환 섬유의 충전비가 일정할 때 pH 변화에 따른 니켈 이온의 흡착량은 산성 pH에서는 큰 변화가 없는 것으로 보아 도금수세액의 pH가 산성인 점을 고려할 때 pH 5 이하가 적합한 것으로 판단되었다.

Adsorption kinetic and mechanistic view of aqueous ferric ion onto bio-natural rice grains

  • Adsorption kinetics of aqueous ferric ion ($Fe^{3+}$) onto bio-natural rice grains (BRG) have been studied in a batch system. The influence of contact time (0-180 minutes), the dosage of BRG adsorbent (10, 20, 40, and $60gL^{-1}$), and ambient temperature (27, 37, 47, and $57^{\circ}C$) for the adsorption system have been reported. The equilibrium time achieved after 20 minutes of adsorption contact time. The maximum removal of ferric ion is 99% by using $60gL^{-1}$ of BRG, $T=37^{\circ}C$, and $50mgL^{-1}$ ferric ion solution. Adsorption kinetic and diffusion models, such as pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and Weber-Morris intra-particle diffusion model, have been used to describe the adsorption rate and mechanism of the ferric ion onto BRG surface. The sorption data results are fitted by Lagergren pseudo-second order model ($R^2=1.0$). The kinetic parameters, rate constant, and sorption capacities have been calculated. The new information in this study suggests that BRG could adsorb ferric ion from water physiosorption during the first 5 minutes. Afterward, the electrostatic interaction between ferric ion and BGR-surface could take place as a very weak chemisorptions process. Thus, there is no significant change could be noticed in the FTIR spectra after adsorption. I recommend producing BGR as a bio-natural filtering material for removing the ferric ion from water.

막여과지에 대한 이트륨-90의 흡착 반응속도에 관한 연구 (Adsorption Kinetics of Carrier-Free Yttrium-90 on Membrane Filters)

  • The adsorption kinetics on a membrane filter have been studied by an introduction of acid or alkali in yttrium-90 solution. The change of the adsorption in the filtration process was determined by the filtrate activities with using a microsyringe filter holder connected with a syringe. The over all reaction rate obeyed a reversible first order reaction, and the rate constants thus obtained, showed the values of $k_1$ = 0.12 $sec^{-1}$ and $k_1'$ = 0.039 $sec^{-1}$. As a result of the present studies, it would be reasonable that the rate determining step of the adsorption reaction was the hydrolysis reaction of the adsorbed yttrium ions.

  • In order to elucidate the lubricating mechanism of polyolester base oils [POEs], the wear characteristics of 27 kinds of polyolester base oils including mixed POEs were investigated. Their wear results were discussed in terms of the effect of molecular structure on wear performance and compared with those of mineral oil. In addition, the adsorption ability of POEs to reduced iron and their hydrolysis rates were measured and the effect of their molecular structures on the adsorptivity and hydrolysis rate of POEs was discussed, respectively. Finally, the lubricating mechanism anlyzed from these results of wear characteristics, adsorptivity and hydrolysis rate was proposed. That is to say, POEs are firstly adsorbed to friction surface and decomposed by hydrolysis or thermal degradation. Fatty acids obtained by degradation of POEs form adsorption film on friction surface. The larger become cohesive ability among fatty acid molecules in the adsorption film, the better gets the wear performance of POEs.

  • To the removal of hardness materials, we've test the absorptive capacity of main material $Mg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+}$ on the using the activated carbon powder saturated in 0.1M Nitrilotriacetic acid by experimental methods. The absorptive properties of $Ca^{2+}\;and\;Mg^{2+}$ were measured with absorbent quantity and contact time., and investigated the physical properties of overall rate constant and adsorption constant adsorption isotherm, and Langmuir and Freundlich constant. In case of k' adsorption rate constants of $Ca^{2+},\;Mg^{2+}$, was 0.00299, 0.00529 by Bhattahary and Venkobachar equation. $k_{aa}$ was 0.00373, 0.00640 according with adsorption rate constants of Lagergren.

키토산 비드의 교차결합(crosslinking)과 건조공정이 흡착속도에 미치는 영향 (The effect of crosslinking and dry for the adsorption rate on the chitosan bead)

  • Chitosan, natural organic polymer, has been applied in water treatment as adsorbent due to non-toxic for human being. The amino group as functional group, can interacts with cation and anion at the same time. The prepared chitosan bead (HCB) was crosslinked to increase chemical stability (HCB-G) and both HCB and HCB-G were prepared to increase physical strength by drying referred to DCB and DCB-G, respectively. The adsorption effect for crosslinking and drying for four types of chitosan bead was tested using pseudo fist order (PFO), pseudo second order (PSO), and intraparticle diffusion model (ID). Regardless of PFO and PSO, the order of K, rate constant, is as followed: HCB > HCB-G > DCB > DCB-G for Cu(II) and phosphate. Drying leading to contraction of bead significantly reduced adsorption rate due to reduce the porosity of chitosan. In addition, crosslingking also negatively effect on adsorption rate. When compared with Cu(II) using hydrogel bead, phosphate showed higher value than Cu(II) for PFO and PSO. The application of ID showed that both hydrogel beads (HCB and HCB-G) obtained a very low R2 ranging to 0.37 to 0.81, while R2 can be obtained to over 0.9 for DCB and DCB-G, indicting ID is appropriate for low adsorption rate.

Na2CO3, K2CO3 및 Li2CO3 첨착활성탄을 이용한CO2 제거 -고정층 반응기에서의 CO2 흡착특성- (Removal CO2 Using Na2CO3, K2CO3 and Li2CO3 Impregnated Activated Carbon -Characteristics of CO2 Adsorption in Fixed Bed Reactor-)

  • The purpose of this study was to gain basic information on the characteristics of $CO_2$ adsorption in relation to $Na_2CO_3$, $K_2CO_3$, $Li_2CO_3$-impregnated activated carbon in a Fixed Bed Reactor. From the results of this study the following conclusions were made: $Na_2CO_3$, $K_2CO_3$, $Li_2CO_3$-impregnated activated carbon had a longer breakthrough time and more enhanced adsorption capacity than activated carbon alone. When tested with isothermal adsorption and tested for $CO_2$ adsorption the amount of $CO_2$ adsorbed varied with temperature, $CO_2$ inlet concentration, gas flow rate, aspect ratio, etc. Based on the results, when Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Polanyi adsorption isotherms were used for linear regression of isothermal adsorption data, Langmuir adsorption isotherm was the most suitable. And, the optimum condition for $Na_2CO_3$ and $K_2CO_3$ impregnated activated carbon make-up was 1N and $Li_2CO_3$ was 0.1N. It could be concluded that adsorption capacity was decreased with adsorption temperature and increased gas concentration. When the aspect ratio (L/D) was varied 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0, the significant drop of adsorption amount was observed below 1.0 and breakthrough time was shortened with gas flow rate.

  • This study was undertaken to judge the quality of air-tightened exhibition cases and to predict the dynamic variation of the relative humidity in the showcase. We performed a lot of experiments for the a few conditions and we numerically calculated the air change rate and the relative humidity in the showcase with the Artsorb under the same conditions. In all cases we confirmed that the numerical results about the relative humidity in the showcase had a good agreement with the experimental ones. Through the experiments of humidity control, we found out that the adsorption efficiency is varied with the location and the amount of the Artsorb. And the numerical results showed that the adsorption material is always needed to keep on the appropriate humidity condition in the showcase even though any kind of the showcases are used.

Kinetics of Initial Water Vapor Adsorption by Inonotus obliquus Mushroom Powders

  • Water vapor adsorption kinetics of Inonotus mushroom powders were investigated in temperature and water activity ranges of 20 to 40$^{\circ}C$ and 0.30 to 0.81, respectively. Initial water vapor adsorption rate of mushroom powders increased with increases in temperature and water activity. The temperature dependency of water activity followed the Clausius-Clapeyron equation. The net isosteric heat of sorption increased with an increase in water activity. Water vapor adsorption kinetics of the mushroom powders can be well described by a simple empirical model. Temperature dependency of the reaction rate constant followed the Arrhenius relationship. The activation energy ranged from 56.86 to 91.35 kJ/mol depending on water activity. Kinetic compensation relationship was observed between k$_o$ and E$_a$ with the isokinetic temperature of 790.27 K.

  • A study on the removal of mercury by Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Aureobasidium pullulans was done, in which the model of adsorption isotherm and adsorption rate was proposed. The adsorption isotherm of mercury by S. cerevisiae was accorded with Langmuir model but A. pullulans was followed to Freundlich model. The amount of mercury removed by A. pullulans was higher than that of S. cerevisiae, but the adsorption rate of mercury by A. pullulans was slower than that of S. cerevisiae. In a rapid adsorption process, therefore, it is more useful to use S. cerevisiae as a biosobent.
