Objectives: In recent years, pregnancy rate among female adolescents has increased and caused a variety of physical and social problems. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate sexual behavior, delinquent behavior, and pregnancy rate among Korean female adolescents. Methods: In light of the growing interest in adolescent pregnancy, this study conducted a web-based survey, titled "The 2006 Youth Health Risk Behavior Survey." The Korean Center for Disease Control (KCDC) collected questionnaire responses from 34,200 young women. The collected data were analyzed through chi-square test and logistic regression using SPSS Win 14.0 version. Results: This study analyzed main factors, which can predict pregnant experience. The statistic results showed two types of the predicting factors: (1) personal factors: sexual relations after drinking (odds 25.1), Narcotic drug taking (odds 13.0), sexual violence act (odds 7.0), part-time job(odds 2.5), drinking, smoking ; and (2) environmental factors: stepfather(odds 4.2) and natural mother. Conclusion: The influential factor identification for predicting pregnancy rate is important to develop an effective education program for preventing the adolescent pregnancy. The education programs with referring to the identified factors can contribute to reducing the unwilling pregnancy rate of young woman.
This study examines factors that influence delinquent behavior among Korean adolescents using longitudinal analysis. A total of 1,012 students completed a questionnaire when they were Grade 6 and 739 students completed a follow-up questionnaire when they became Grade 9. Results of multiple regression analysis indicate that the following variables predicted delinquent behavior of Grade 9 students: Bullying, previous delinquency, experience of punishment, victimization, social efficacy, and moral disengagement. The above six variables have direct and mediating influence of delinquent behavior. Relational factors also influenced delinquent behavior. Social exclusion from friends reduce social efficacy, which increases victimization and which in turn increases bullying, leading to greater delinquency. Parental rejection, social exclusion from friends and hostility from teachers increase moral disengagement, which increases bullying, leading to delinquency. Low academic achievement increases the likelihood of being punished, which increases bullying, leading to delinquency. The results indicate that moral disengagement and social efficacy are mediating factors of delinquency and negative life-events (i.e., social exclusion from friends, rejection from teachers, hostility from parents and low academic achievement) increase the likelihood that Korean adolescents will engage in delinquent behavior. Implications of the results for future research are discussed.

Objective: Delinquent peers are important predictors of adolescent delinquent behavior. Few studies have classified individuals into groups based on patterns of delinquent behavior among youth and their peers. This study identified latent groups based on adolescent-peer delinquency and examined psychosocial characteristics of each latent group. Methods: First, the study employed latent class analysis based on a nationally representative data of South Korean middle school students (N = 2,277). Both adolescent and peer delinquent behaviors comprised 13 items in the questionnaire that was self-reported by adolescents. Second, the study used multivariate regression models to analyze psychosocial symptoms of latent groups and conducted Wald tests to compare differences among latent groups. Results: Patterns of adolescent-peer delinquency were classified into six latent groups. "Mutual total delinquent group (1.2%)" showed high rates in most delinquent experiences. "Mutual status delinquent group (5.7%)" mainly experienced status delinquency, "Mutual violence delinquent group (5.3%)" showed high rates of violent delinquency. "Peer-only total high delinquent group (3.8%)" reported friends to have engaged in all types of delinquency and "Peer-only total medium delinquent group (11.8%)" reported peer involvement in multiple status and few violent delinquency. Finally, "low risk group (72.2%)" reported low rates of delinquency for themselves and their friends. Regression analysis showed that every "mutual" delinquent group presented significantly worse psychosocial problems than the "low risk group." Conclusion: Using person centered latent class analysis, this study classified six latent classes while considering both delinquent agents and various types of delinquency and investigated specific groups with greater risk of psychosocial problems.
This study examined the effects of parental attachment and peer attachment in elementary school children upon early adolescent delinquency. The participants were 2,844 taken from data from the Korean Youth Panel Survey (KYPS). Data from secondary questionnaires data on parent and peer attachment, problem behavior, delinquent peers, and delinquency were used for this study. Data were analyzed by means of a Structural Equation Model using AMOS 5.0. Our results indicated that, firstly, parental attachment was negatively related to problem behavior for both male and female adolescents, whereas peer attachment was positively related to problem behavior only for males, but not for females. Secondly, problem behavior in childhood has a direct effect on adolescent delinquency, which also can be indirectly mediated by contact with delinquent peers. In conclusion, the path model from parental and peer attachment in early childhood to adolescent delinquency was supported only in the case of males.
The purpose of this study is to investigate pathways from family factors such as parental conflict, parenting behavior and adolescents' self-control to adolescent delinquency, and to explore the mediating effects of delinquent peers and school maladaptation. The 2004 Korea Youth Panel Survey data were used for analysis and the total number of subjects were 2,968 middle school students with two parents including step parents family. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS 5 and SPSS 10. The major findings are summarized as follows. First, the effects of parental conflict on adolescent delinquency were mediated by parenting behavior, adolescents' self-control, delinquent peers and school maladaptation. Contrary to parental conflict, parenting behavior had a direct effect on adolescent delinquency as well as indirect effects. On the basis of these results, this article provided some suggestions for preventing or reducing adolescent delinquency.
This study examines adolescent delinquent behavior and the influence of friends, focusing specifically on friends' delinquent behavior and the influence of self-efficacy, parent-child conflict and parental control. A total of 1,399 adolescents attending five different high schools (male=642, female=756, consisting of 915 student attending high school and 484 students attending vocational high school) completed a questionnaire developed by Ahn, Hwang, Kim and Park (1997) and Bandura's (1995a) self-efficacy scale. Results indicate that those students who attend high school had parents with higher education, socio-economic status and better studying environment at home, while students attending vocational high school had higher parent-child conflict. Students attending high school had higher self-efficacy scores, while students attending vocational high school had higher scores on delinquent behavior. The results of LISREL analyses revealed a similar pattern for high school and vocational high school students. Combined analysis indicate that friends' delinquent behavior, parent-child conflict and parental control had direct and positive effect on students' delinquency behavior. Self-efficacy had a direct and negative influence of delinquency behavior. Similar pattern was obtained for friends' delinquency behavior, in which self-efficacy had a direct and negative influence of their delinquency behavior and their parent-child conflict and parental control had direct and positive effect on their delinquency behavior. In summary, those students who had lower self-efficacy, higher parent-child conflict and parental control, and with friends who are more likely to engage in delinquent behavior, had higher scores on delinquent behavior. Also, those students who had friends with lower self-efficacy scores and with higher parent-child conflict and parental control are more likely to engage in delinquent behavior, which in turn influenced their delinquent behavior. Friends' delinquent behavior had the greatest influence on students' delinquent behavior indicating the role of friends in influencing delinquency among adolescents.
This study examines the basis and change of delinquent behavior among Korean adolescents. Theoretical framework was developed and qualitative analysis of delinquency behavior was examined. In order to understand the basis and change of juvenile delinquency, the influence of family environment, school environment and individual factors were investigated through cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. The results of the findings can be summarized into the following six main points: 1) two subcultures of adolescent functioning could be ascertained, 2) the decrease in social support and increase in moral disengagement were directly related to a rise in juvenile delinquency, 3) family disintegration contributed to juvenile delinquency, 4) peer influence help to raise juvenile delinquency, 5) schools were unable to give hope to those students who were not doing well in school and were ineffective in dealing with juvenile delinquents, and 6) the phenomenon of juvenile delinquency points to the importance of opening up the closed school system and closed society, allowing individual diversity and skills to be recognized.

Objectives : This present study examined the power of the Korean Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL) subscales to predict a DSM-IV diagnosis of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Methods : The sample included 37 children and adolescents with ODD and 46 normal controls. The participants and their parents were interviewed for clinical diagnosis using the Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia-Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL) and the parents completed the K-CBCL. Logistic regression analysis was used to predict the diagnosis of ODD. Results : Among the CBCL subscales, Delinquent and Aggressive Behavior scales significantly predicted ODD diagnosis. The means of these CBCL subscales were significantly higher in the ODD group when compared to the controls. Conclusion:Two CBCL subscales (Deliquent and Aggressive Behavior) displayed good diagnostic efficiency for assessing ODD in children and adolescents. Through combining information from the CBCL, an empirical-quantitative approach to psychopathology in children and the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, the results demonstrated that a clinical diagnostic approach is an effective diagnostic paradigm for children with ODD.
The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between Juvenile alcohol use and their criminal patterns. The data were collected through questionnaire surveys. Subjects serving for this study were 971 delinquent adolescents in Korea, sampled from 6 juvenile corrective institutions and 2 classification judging institutions, using a census method. Their age range was between 12 and 21. Data were analysed by IBM PC using SAS program. Statistical methods employed were Chi-square and frequency analysis. 1. Of 877 respondents, the number of adolescents committed criminal behaviors while the intoxicated were 230(26.2%), and 647(73.8%) were in a non-intoxicated state. 2. Adolescent under intoxication showed a higher rate of aggressive crimes and assault crimes, whereas adolescents under the non-influence of liquor tended to commit property climes and violations of criminal special law Drunken state adolescents during committing criminal behaviors used knifes, stones or fist-kicking as criminal tools, whereas drug use or without weapons in non drunken state. Most crimes have happened without any tools in both group. 3. In comparison of the alcohol user and the non-user, most alcohol-related crimes among adolescents were committed at AM 0:00 to AM 4:00 during the weekend in the dark, cloudy, and stormy-rainy day, while non-alcohol related crimes were at afternoon of weekday in the clear day. The places that the criminal activities occurred were streets, amusement places such as disco-theque, fields and their own house among alcohol users, whereas victim's house, another person's house and restaurant were chosen among non-alcohol users. 4. The victims assaulted by Juvenile offenders in both drunken and non-drunken state were mostly passer-by(65.4%), followed by their friends(25.1%). And the conditions of victims showed a significant differences between the drunken adolescents and the non-drunken adolescents. The victim's conditions assaulted by intoxicated delinquent adolescents were in quarreling or drunken state, whereas non-alcohol related crimes were directed against victims in a sleeping or irresistible state. 5. Almost over the half of delinquent adolescents perceived their delinquency as wrong behaviors. and alcohol non-user tended to more significantly perceive their criminal acts as wrong conducts. About the half of respondents answered that they committed their criminal acts in spite of having a very good Judgement while doing crimes, the author did not found a significant difference between the two groups. The reasons given for crimes were manifested as follows: it can be seen that ‘to get money for amusements’(30.4 % of all motives) were most common, followed by ‘to commit accidentally the offences’(23.8%), ‘curiosity or heroism’(18.9%). alcohol related crimes tended to be accidental and impulsively without any clear planning, while non-alcohol related crimes tended to be purposeful, directed to make money motivated by curiosity or a desire to live heroically. In Conclusions. the correlation between alcohol use and Juvenile criminal behaviors has been examined in this study. Generally, alcohol use had been found to be highly correlated with aggressive assault crimes including robbery, burglary and rape etc.
This article compares the psychological and behavioral profiles of adolescents on probation and high school students. A total of 253 adolescents on probation and 257 high school students completed an open-ended questionnaire developed by the present researchers and structured questionnaire that assessed moral disengagement and self-efficacy developed by Bandura (1995), delinquent behavior and academic achievement. Adolescents on probation reported that they engaged in delinquent behavior due to the fault of others and they were angry for being forced to be on probation. They are not likely to take responsibility and morally disengage from their delinquent actions. When compared to high school students, adolescents on probation are likely to report low self-efficacy, low academic grade, and less likely to feel proud of themselves. They are more likely to meet their friends in Internet and video game rooms and less likely to focus on academic achievement. Results of ANCOVA indicate that adolescents on probation have higher scores on moral disengagement, social efficacy, but lower score on efficacy for self-regulated learning. They are more likely to run away from home and have lower academic grade. The results of the discriminant analysis indicate that running away from home, social efficacy and moral disengagement are predictive of adolescents on probation and academic achievement and efficacy for self-regulated learning are predictive of high school students.
