The subjects of investigation for this study was the elementary school girls in the province of Jeonbuk and Taejeon city. The conclusion of this study was as follows; The 40.2% of the total subjects were wearing brassieres like the 63.3% of the fourth, the 85.4% of the fifth, and the 89.7% of the sixth grade students. The main reason of non wearing brassieres was for the underdeveloped breast, and also that of wearing brassieres was for the good shape of the breast. The main types of brassieres were ranked "Tank Top type", "Mold type", and "Adolescent girl-Bra". They had started to wear brassieres by the recommendation of adults who were their mother or teachers, and usually wearing brassieres all day. They usually purchased brassieres "with mother together" or "only by their mother". The standard of choosing brassieres was also ranked by FASHION, CONVENIENCE, SIZE, TOUCH, and SWEAT ABSORPTION. The total score of satisfaction for wearing brassieres was showed "Average score" and the score higher in Jeonju and Taejeon than in Kunsan. The higher grade and fatter was showed decreasing the score of satisfaction. The higher grade became, the more various for the size and preferable a pure cotton fabric for brassieres. The favorite types of brassieres were "Sport Bra" and "Volume-up Bra". They usually purchased a little larger size than their original size of that.

  • This study was performed to investigate the factors related to vitamin & mineral supplement use by the adolescents. Nine hundred and seventy-two adolescent boys and girls attending middle or high schools were chosen from various cities and rural communities in Korea. In this study, the factors affecting vitamin & mineral supplement use were analyzed from a self-administered questionnaire. It was found that vitamin & mineral supplements were taken by 31.3% of subjects. High school students(p<.01), female girl students(p<.001), and rural-dwellers(p<.001) took vitamin & mineral supplements more frequently than their complementing groups. The socioeconomic status of the family (p<.01), and supplement consumption by parents and siblings respectively affected the supplement use by the subjects(p<.001). Vitamin·mineral supplements were consumed more often in subjects who perceived their health as poor(p<.001), skipped breakfast(p<.05), and received nutritional information from books or magazines(p<.05). However, food habits and nutritional knowledge score of subjects did not affect vitamin & mineral supplement use. These findings suggest that adolescents take vitamin & mineral supplements commonly, and they tend to use supplements without prescription. Vitamin·mineral supplement consumption seems to be affected by general characteristics, health related variables, and meal management attitudes of subjects. Therefore, nutritional understanding and education are required in regard to the used of vitamin & mineral supplements, and the relationship between balanced diet and good health for the adolescents.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the adolescent girl's weight control practices, degree of obesity and body image. The data were collected from July 1st to 15th, 1996 using the questionnaire and the physical examination record. The subjects of this study were 295 junior high school girls. Darta were analyzed with percentages, means, t-test, ANOVA, Kruscal-Wallis one way ANOVA, Scheffe test and pearson correlation coefficients using the SPSS program. The results were as follows: 1. The mean for the degree of obesity in subjects was -1.26%. The 34.2% of the subjects were underweight, the 46.8% were normal, the 9.2% were overweight and the 9.8% were obese. The girls who perceived themselves obese were 39% and only the 47% of them were really over-weight and obese. 2. The mean score of body image was 139.30. It was 145.51 for underweight girls, 128.07 for normal weight girls and 125.17 for obese girls. The higher the degree of obesity was, the lower body image score was. The body image score of the girls who perceived themselves obese was significantly lower than that of the girls who perceived themselves normal or underweight. 3. The 65.1% of subjects experienced weight control practices. They reported that they had used the following weight control methods such as diet(42.2%), exercise(35.9%), diet and exercise(15.1%) and others including drug(6.8%). The degree of obesity was significantly higher and the body image score was significantly lower in the case of the girls who had weight control experiences than in the case of those who had no weight control experiences. 4. The 60% Of the subjects often had 2 meals per day. The 48.8% of the subjects tended to skip breakfast, the 7.8% would skip lunch and the 20% did not have dinner. The higher the degree of obesity was and the lower body image score was, the more the girls would skip their meals. In conclusion, many adolescent girls tended to believe their body weight heavier than their real body weight. Many girls who were not overweight and obese tried to lose weight. In the case of the girls whose degree of obesity was high or who perceived themselves obese, the body image score tended to get lower and the weight control practices tended to be increased.

  • The purpose of present study was to develop the Korean Version of Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery for Children(LNNB-C), to examine the reliability of it, and to establish the norms for determining the probability of brain damage. The normative group used to standardize the Korean version of LNNB-C was composed of 147 children between the age of 8 and 12(body 74, girl 73). The clinical group consisted of 19 brain damaged, 16 ADHD, and 16 psychiatric controls. The inter-scorer reliability was 96.3%, indicating that the stability of the scoring system for the Korean version of LNNB-C is good. The reliability coefficients(Cronbach's ${\alpha}$) of LNNB-C scales were ranged .51 to .91, which are similar to those of original LNNB-C. To establish the norms for detecting brain damage, the means and standard deviations for normative group were used to calculate T-scores for each scale. To determine a critical level that could successfully predict a normal child's average score at a given age, first the average score of normative group was calculated, and this score was then entered a regression equation with age to predict the average(baseline) acore. Finally, some issues on constructing the Korean version of LNNB-C and the cultural differences between Korean and American children in performing LNNB-C were discussed.

  • Procalcitonin (PCT) is commonly employed in medical practice as a diagnostic biomarker of bacterial infection and also as a monitoring biomarker for antimicrobial therapy. There have been a few published reports concerning elevated PCT levels in people with acute liver injury caused by an overdose of acetaminophen. We report here on a case of PCT elevation in an adolescent with acute acetaminophen poisoning without any bacterial infection or liver injury. A 15-year-old girl had deliberately ingested 20 tablets of 650 mg acetaminophen (13 g) and she presented to our emergency department. The PCT level on admission was elevated to 65.64 ng/mL (reference range: 0-0.5 ng/mL). Her PCT level on the second day peaked up to 100 ng/mL and then it gradually decreased. There was no evidence of liver injury or infection on the computed tomography examination and other lab tests. The patient regained her good health and was discharged on the sixth day of hospitalization.

  • The purpose of this study in the patient suffering from scoliosis analyse the degree of scoliosis, Cobb's angle, by Yoga exercise therapy and then find the effects of Yoga program on idiopathic scoliosis. In this study, yoga program restores flexibility and elasticity by relaxing and contracting muscles around vertebrea. It could help scoliosis from balancing agonistic muscle, antagonistic muscle and synergistic muscle during exercise. so did pelvis movement and vertebral twisting movement. The subject for this experiment was a meddle school girl diagnosed with scoliosis in C hospital in Gwang-ju city. In order to find the effects of yoga program on idiopathic scoliosis, conducted yoga program 60minutes a day, 5days a week for 12weeks. Before and after experiment, measured Cobb's angle by radiation and verified effects. First, master of yoga and chiropractor studied and made movement together. Second, Yoga program-developed about scoliosis was prescribed for the meddle school girl suffering from scoliosis during 12weeks. Third, Feasibility and effect was verified on idiopathic scoliosis by yoga program. As a result, the amount of curvature was reduced about 5degrees than before and improved the idiopathic scoliosis. Lots of Yoga movements help patients of idiopathic scoliosis to be improved. It shows that Yoga program could give adolescent scoliosis a hand.

  • The so-called borderline children are characterised by disturbances in the sense of reality and interpersonal relationships, lack of control, fluctuation of functioning, uneven development and excessive anxiety. But the concept of borderline disorder of childhood is very difficult to define and diagnose in current classification system. The present study adapted the consensus symptoms in borderline children by Bemporad and Vera eight cases aged 7-11 were examined in 37 variables. Results are as follows 1) All subjects are boys and girl hardly be diagnosis n current diagnostic system and have many concurrent diagnoses. Common chief complaints in the sense of reality. 2) In KEDI-WISC test, the borderline children showed average intelligence, but performance IQ tends to be higher than verbal IQ. In Rorscharch test, they showed high thought disorder index, emotional instabilities and aggressive impulses. The results of TOVA suggested attentional deficit in half of the subjects. The organicity is not prominent. 3) Many of the borderline children were unwanted baby. Although primary care takers of all the subjects were their mothers there were moderate problems in caring attitude of their children and marital relationship with their husband. Sccioeconomic status was generally below middle class. Most of all subjects have delayed language development, but have overcome subsequently. Many subjects were rejected by peers because of their aggression. 4) The first visit of the subjects was about 6 years of age. Average duration of treatment was 2 years. All of them were treated in the outpatient basis except one. The effect of pharmacotherapy was doubtful and the necessity of long term play therapy was suggested. Although there were many limitations of method in present study, it was suggested that further research is needed for diagnostic criteria, epidemiology and treatment.
