Recently a new class of quantum gate called $NCV-{\mid}v_1$ > library with low cost realizable potentialities is being watched with keen interest. The $NCV-{\mid}v_1$ > MCT gate is composed of AND cascaded-$CV-{\mid}v_1$ > gates to control the target qudit and its adjoint gates to erase junk ones. This paper presents a new symmetrical duality library named $NCV^{\dag}-{\mid}v_1$ > library corresponding to $NCV-{\mid}v_1$ > library. The new $NCV^{\dag}-{\mid}v_1$ > library can be operated on OR logic under certain conditions. By using both the $NCV-{\mid}v_1$ > and $NCV^{\dag}-{\mid}v_1$ > libraries it is possible to realize MPMCT gates, SOP and POS type synthesis of quantum logic circuits with extremely low cost, and expect dual gate property caused by different operational attributes with respect to forward and backward operations.

The reversibility of a quantum logic circuit can be realized when two reversible conditions of information reversible and energy reversible circuits are satisfied. In this paper, we have modeled the computation cycle required to recover the information reversibility from the multivalued quantum logic to the original state. For modeling, we used a function embedding method that uses a unitary switch as an arithmetic exponentiation switch. In the quantum logic circuit, if the adjoint gate pair is symmetric, the unitary switch function shows the balance function characteristic, and it takes 1 cycle operation to recover the original information reversibility. Conversely, if it is an asymmetric structure, it takes two cycle operations by the constant function. In this paper, we show that the problem of 2-cycle restoration according to the asymmetric structure when the hybrid MCT gate is realized with the ternary M-S gate can be solved by equivalent conversion of the asymmetric gate to the gate of the symmetric structure.

In analyzing residual radiation, researchers generally use a two-step Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. The first step (MC1) simulates neutron transport, and the second step (MC2) transports the decay photons emitted from the activated materials. In this process, the stochastic uncertainty estimated by the MC2 appears only as a final result, but it is underestimated because the stochastic error generated in MC1 cannot be directly included in MC2. Hence, estimating the true stochastic uncertainty requires quantifying the propagation degree of the stochastic error in MC1. The brute force technique is a straightforward method to estimate the true uncertainty. However, it is a costly method to obtain reliable results. Another method, called the adjoint-based method, can reduce the computational time needed to evaluate the true uncertainty; however, there are limitations. To address those limitations, we propose a new strategy to estimate uncertainty propagation without any additional calculations in two-step MC simulations. To verify the proposed method, we applied it to activation benchmark problems and compared the results with those of previous methods. The results show that the proposed method increases the applicability and user-friendliness preserving accuracy in quantifying uncertainty propagation. We expect that the proposed strategy will contribute to efficient and accurate two-step MC calculations.
The effect of Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A (AMSU-A) observations on the short-range forecast in East Asia (EA) was investigated for the Northern Hemispheric (NH) summer and winter months, using the Forecast Sensitivity to Observations (FSO) method. For both periods, the contribution of radiosonde (TEMP) to the EA forecast was largest, followed by AIRCRAFT, AMSU-A, Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI), and the atmospheric motion vector of Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) or Multi-functional Transport Satellite (MTSAT). The contribution of AMSU-A sensor was largely originated from the NOAA 19, NOAA 18, and MetOp-A (NOAA 19 and 18) satellites in the NH summer (winter). The contribution of AMSU-A sensor on the MetOp-A (NOAA 18 and 19) satellites was large at 00 and 12 UTC (06 and 18 UTC) analysis times, which was associated with the scanning track of four satellites. The MetOp-A provided the radiance data over the Korea Peninsula in the morning (08:00~11:30 LST), which was important to the morning forecast. In the NH summer, the channel 5 observations on MetOp-A, NOAA 18, 19 along the seaside (along the ridge of the subtropical high) increased (decreased) the forecast error slightly (largely). In the NH winter, the channel 8 observations on NOAA 18 (NOAA 15 and MetOp-A) over the Eastern China (Tibetan Plateau) decreased (increased) the forecast error. The FSO provides useful information on the effect of each AMSU-A sensor on the EA forecasts, which leads guidance to better use of AMSU-A observations for EA regional numerical weather prediction.

A generalized method is presented for shape design sensitivity analysis of axisymmetric thermal conducting solids. The shape sensitivity formula of a general performance functional arising in shape optimal design problem is derived using the material derivative concept and the adjoint variable method. The method for deriving the formula is based on standard axisymmetric boundary integral equation formulation. It is then applied to obtain the sensitivity formulas for temperature and heat flux constraints imposed over a small segment of the boundary. To show the accuracy of the sensitivity analysis, numerical implementations are done for three examples. Sensitivities calculated by the presented method are compared with analytic sensitivities for two examples with analytic solutions, and compared with sensitivies by finite difference for a cooling fin example.
This study systematically compared two hybrid deterministic/Monte Carlo transport codes, ADVANTG/MCNP and MAVRIC, in solving a difficult shielding problem for a real-world spent fuel storage cask. Both hybrid codes were developed based on the consistent adjoint driven importance sampling (CADIS) methodology but with different implementations. The dose rate distributions on the cask surface were of primary interest and their predicted results were compared with each other and with a straightforward MCNP calculation as a baseline case. Forward-Weighted CADIS was applied for optimization toward uniform statistical uncertainties for all tallies on the cask surface. Both ADVANTG/MCNP and MAVRIC achieved substantial improvements in overall computational efficiencies, especially for gamma-ray transport. Compared with the continuous-energy ADVANTG/MCNP calculations, the coarse-group MAVRIC calculations underestimated the neutron dose rates on the cask's side surface by an approximate factor of two and slightly overestimated the dose rates on the cask's top and side surfaces for fuel gamma and hardware gamma sources because of the impact of multigroup approximation. The fine-group MAVRIC calculations improved to a certain extent and the addition of continuous-energy treatment to the Monte Carlo code in the latest MAVRIC sequence greatly reduced these discrepancies. For the two continuous-energy calculations of ADVANTG/MCNP and MAVRIC, a remaining difference of approximately 30% between the neutron dose rates on the cask's side surface resulted from inconsistent use of thermal scattering treatment of hydrogen in concrete.

A level set based topological shape optimization using extended B-spline basis functions is developed for steady-state heat conduction problems. The only inside of complicated domain identified by the level set functions is taken into account in computation, so we can remove the effects of domain outside parts in heat conduction problem. The solution of Hamilton-Jacobi equation leads to an optimal shape according to the normal velocity field determined from the sensitivity analysis, minimizing a thermal compliance while satisfying a volume constraint. To obtain exact shape sensitivity, the precise normal and curvature of geometry need to be determined using the level set and B-spline basis functions. Using topological derivative concept, the nucleation of holes for topological changes can be made whenever and wherever necessary during the optimization.
This paper investigates the Synergetics based Damage Detection Method (SDDM) for frame structures by using surface-bonded PZT (Lead Zirconate Titanate) patches. After analyzing the mechanism of pattern recognition from Synergetics, the operating framework with cooperation-competition-update process of SDDM was proposed. First, the dynamic identification equation of structural conditions was established and the adjoint vector (AV) set of original vector (OV) set was obtained by Generalized Inverse Matrix (GIM).Then, the order parameter equation and its evolution process were deduced through the strict mathematics ratiocination. Moreover, in order to complete online structural condition update feature, the iterative update algorithm was presented. Subsequently, the pathway in which SDDM was realized through the modified Synergetic Neural Network (SNN) was introduced and its assessment indices were confirmed. Finally, the experimental platform with a two-story frame structure was set up. The performances of the proposed methodology were tested for damage identifications by loosening various screw nuts group scenarios. The experiments were conducted in different damage degrees, the disturbance environment and the noisy environment, respectively. The results show the feasibility of SDDM using piezoceramic sensors and actuators, and demonstrate a strong ability of anti-disturbance and anti-noise in frame structure applications. This proposed approach can be extended to the similar structures for damage identification.
An efficient algorithm for inverting static-shifted magnetotelluric (MT) data has been proposed to produce a three-dimensional (3D) resistivity model. In the Gauss-Newton approach, computational costs associated with construction of a full sensitivity matrix usually make 3D MT inversion impractical. This computational difficulty may be overcome by using approximate sensitivities. We use four kinds of sensitivities in particular orders in the inversion process. These sensitivities are computed 1) analytically for an initial, homogeneous earth, 2) exactly for a current model, 3) approximately by the Broyden method, and 4) approximately using the previous adjoint fields. Inversion experiments with static-shifted synthetic and field MT data indicate that inversion results are highly dependent on characteristics of data and thus applying various combinations of sensitivities is helpful in obtaining a good image of the subsurface structure with reasonable computation time.
In this note we prove the following result: Let A be a complex Banach *-algebra with continuous involution and let B be an $A^{*}$-algebra./T(A) = B. Then T is continuous (Theorem 2). From above theorem some others results of special interest and some well-known results follow. (Corollaries 3,4,5,6 and 7). We close this note with some generalizations and some remarks (Theorems 8.9.10 and question). Throughout this note we consider only complex algebras. Let A and B be complex algebras. A linear mapping T from A into B is called jordan homomorphism if T( $x^{1}$) = (Tx)$^{2}$ for all x in A. A linear mapping T : A .rarw. B is called spectrally-contractive mapping if .rho.(Tx).leq..rho.(x) for all x in A, where .rho.(x) denotes spectral radius of element x. Any homomorphism algebra is a spectrally-contractive mapping. If A and B are *-algebras, then a homomorphism T : A.rarw.B is called *-homomorphism if (Th)$^{*}$=Th for all self-adjoint element h in A. Recall that a Banach *-algebras is a complex Banach algebra with an involution *. An $A^{*}$-algebra A is a Banach *-algebra having anauxiliary norm vertical bar . vertical bar which satisfies $B^{*}$-condition vertical bar $x^{*}$x vertical bar = vertical bar x vertical ba $r^{2}$(x in A). A Banach *-algebra whose norm is an algebra $B^{*}$-norm is called $B^{*}$-algebra. The *-semi-simple Banach *-algebras and the semi-simple hermitian Banach *-algebras are $A^{*}$-algebras. Also, $A^{*}$-algebras include $B^{*}$-algebras ( $C^{*}$-algebras). Recall that a semi-prime algebra is an algebra without nilpotents two-sided ideals non-zero. The class of semi-prime algebras includes the class of semi-prime algebras and the class of prime algebras. For all concepts and basic facts about Banach algebras we refer to [2] and [8].].er to [2] and [8].].
