The growth of A calcoaceticus C10 in CL medium was not increased by the addition of 0.5% E-capralactone or succinate, but increased by 0.2% adipate, xylose or even glucose which was not metabolized as a carbon source. The addition of 0.2% glucose after culture in CL medium for 6 hours increased the growth of A. colcoaceticus C10 twice as much as that in CL medium after culture for further 10 hours. Biosynthesis of cyclohexanol dehydrogenase in A. calcoaceticus C10 was not repressed by ${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone, succinate, xylose and glucose, but repressed by adipate which is endproduct of cyclohexanol metabolism. The induction of dehydrogenase by cyc1ohexanol in CL medium was not repressed completely by 0.1% adipate, but repressed almost completely by 0.2% adipate in A. calcoaceticus C10.
The vascular relaxant effect of amlodipine adipate, a new salt of amlodipine, was evaluate in isolated rat aorta, and compared with that of amlodipine besylate. Furthermore, antihypertensive effects were measured in hypertensive rat models, such as spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and rena1 hypertensive rats (RHR). Amlodipine adipate concentration-dependently inhibited $Ca^{2+}$-induced contraction of rat aorta with a very slow onset of action (reached its maximum at 3.5 h;$IC_{50}$: 3.76 nM), having a pattern and a potency similar to those of amlodipine besylate ($IC_{50}$: 4.01 nM). In SHR and RHR, orally administered amlodipine adipate produced a dosedependent and long-lasting (>10-24 h) antihypertensive effect ($ED_{20}$: 2.48 and 1.57 mg/kg, respectively), with a pattern and a potency similar to those of amlodipine besylate ($ED_{20}$: 2.50 and 1.99 mg/kg in SHR and RHR, respectively). These results suggest that amlodipine adipate is a potent and long-lasting antihypertensive agent and that its antihypertensive effect is not significantly different to that of amlodipine besylate.
The determination of phthalates and adipate in natural mineral water and its container is described. Phthalates and adipate were extracted from natural mineral water by liquid-liquid extraction with methylene chloride, concentrated and then injected in GC-MS (SIM). Phthalates and adipate from 1) PET, cap, label and glue were extracted in Soxhlet with 50 mL of carbon tetrachloride, purified with silicagel and detected with GC-MS (SIM). Peak shapes and quantitation of phthalates and adipate were excellent, with linear calibration curves over a range of $0.1{\sim}10{\mu}g/L$ in water sample ($r^2$ > 0.996) and over a range of $1{\sim}1,000{\mu}g/Kg$ in solid samples ($r^2$>0.994). The detection limits of analytes were $0.002{\sim}0.010{\mu}g/L$ in water and $0.01{\sim}0.02{\mu}g/Kg$ in solid samples. Five kinds of natural mineral water samples, two PETs, two labels, two caps and two glues were quantified by the described procedure. As a results, the concentrations of total phthalates in natural mineral water ranged from ND ~ 1.2 ng/mL. Otherwise, the concentrations of total phthalate extracted from PET ranged from 0.55 ~ 1.2 mg/Kg. We found that the accurate determination of phthalte and adipate in natural mineral water and container must be considered blank correction and the removal of label and glue in PET sample.
A study of the levels of phthalate and adipate esters, which are suspected as endocrine disruptors, in food packaging wraps and packaged foods were carried out. Among 11 wrap samples, 8 household wraps purchased at retail markets were polyvinyl chloride(PVC) and polyethylene(PE), while 3 commercial wraps at wholesale markets were PVC. All of 51 selected food samples, such as 12 samples of vegetable, 11 samples of fruit, 6 samples of bread and rice cake, 4 samples of meat and poultry, 4 samples of fish and 14 samples of side dish, packaged with commercial PVC wraps containing adipate esters were purchased at retail markets. The level of di-(2-ethylhexyl) adipate(DEHA) and diisononyl adipate(DINA) was from 2.2 to 17.9% and from 4.2 to 22.3% in household PVC wraps, respectively. In the commercial PVC wraps, the level of DEHA showed from 18.3 to 22.5%, while other phthalate esters were not detected. The phthalate and adipate esters were not detected in PE wraps. The level of DEHA in packaged foods, such as vegetable, fruit, bread and rice cake, meat and poultry, fish and side dish, were determined up to $8.2\;{\mu}g/cm^2,\;17.4\;{\mu}g/cm^2,\;31.0{\mu}g/cm^2,\;8.3\;{\mu}g/cm^2,\;2.1\;{\mu}g/cm^2$ and $92.3\;{\mu}g/cm^2$, respectively. The results suggested that migration levels of DEHA in foods were closely related to the fat content, wrapping condition of food and stroage time and temperature.
The quaternary random copolyesters of poly (butylene glutarate-co-adipate-co-succinate-co-terephthalate)(PBGAST) were synthesized and charaterized by $^1H-NMR$ spectrometry, DSC method, and X-ray diffractometry. Thus the melting point trends and crystallization behaviors of PBGAST copolyesters were obviously depended on terephthalate content in copolymers as well as reaction condition.
In order to improve the thermal stability of polyurethane, we synthesized poly(adipate urethane) (PAU) and three PAU composites, PAU/30B (2.7 wt% 30B), PAU/MP (2.2 wt% MP), PAU/30B/MP (2.2 wt% 30B and 2.2 wt% MP), from poly(oxydiethylene adipate)-diol (PAD), 4,4'-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), Cloisite 30B (30B), and melamine phosphate (MP). 30B and MP were introduced into the reactant mixture at the initial stage of the esterification between adipic acid and diethylene glycol, so 30B and MP were evenly dispersed in the PAU composites for long period. At temperatures lower than $250^{\circ}C$, the PAU composites were degraded faster than pristine PAU, mainly due to the decomposition of 30B and MP. At higher temperatures, the 30B and MP enhanced the thermal stability of the PAU composites. Compared with the pristine PAU, the thermal decomposition rates of the PAU composites decreased by 13~17%. In air, the residual weights of PAU/30B, PAU/MP, and PAU/30B/MP were 2.4, 2.3, and 7.3 wt% at $700^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Thermoplastic starch (TPS) was manufactured and blended with poly(butylene adipate-co-succinate) (PBAS), which is one of the most popular biodegradable aliphatic polyesters. The effects of the TPS contents on the mechanical properties, thermal characteristics, and biodegradability of PBAS/TPS blends were investigated. The foaming characteristics of those were also studied. With small amount of TPS, mechanical properties of the blends were largely deteriorated and the variations of them decreased with more addition of TPS. In addition, TPS decreased crystallinity and thermal decomposition temperature of PBAS. The PBAS/TPS foam having maximum blowing ratio was obtained with 20 Phr of TPS, and their blowing ratio decreased with the further increase of TPS.

Microorganisms capable of degrading poly(butylene succinate-co-butylene adipate) (PBSA) were isolated from 40 soil samples such as landfill site soil, cultivating soil and activated sludge soil from 20 different sites in Korea by using the enrichment culture and the clear zone test at $37^{\circ}C$. Based on the 16S rDNA sequences, the isolated bacterium was identified to be Streptomyces sp. PBSA-1. Morphological and cultural characteristics were employed for the identification of the isolated fungi and they were proved to be Aspergillus fumigatus PBSA-2 and Aspergillus fumigatus PBSA-3. The PBSA degradation activity of the isolated microorganisms was enhanced through the serial acclimation in PBSA plate medium. The PBSA degrading microorganisms appeared to be highly active for the PBSA degradation in that 83% of PBSA was degraded by Streptomyces sp. PBSA-l, and 65% and 75% of PBSA was mineralized by A. fumigatus PBSA2 and A. fumigatus PBSA-3 respectively during 40 days of the modified Sturm test.
The most common phthalate acid esters (8 compounds) and adipate were determined from water and sediment simultaneously. After liquid-liquid extraction with n-hexane for water and sonication extraction with dichloromethane for sediment, these were determined by the GC/MS with SIM mode. There were good linearities (above $R^2=0.993$) on the range of the 0.1-20 ng/ml (water) and 10-500 ng/g (sediment), and the detection limits of method were below 0.1 ng/ml and 10 ng/g for water samples and sediment samples, respectively. The method shows a good precision and accuracy for measurement of phthalates and adipate.
