  • We present a lattice transversal joint (LTJ) adaptive filter with fixed reflection coefficients to achieve fast convergence with low complexity. The reflection coefficients of the filter are given by the statistics of speech signals, and the proposed order of the lattice predictor is one. Experimental results confirm that as compared to the adaptive transversal filter, the proposed adaptive filter achieves fast convergence with a negligible increase in complexity. The proposed adaptive filter converges around six times faster than the adaptive transversal filter in case of the band-limited voiced signal from the ITU-T G.168 standard.

  • This paper presents lattice structure of bilinear filter and the conversion equations from lattice parameters to direct-form parameters. Billnear models are attractive for adaptive filtering applications because they can approximate a large class of nonlinear systems adequately, and usually with considerable parsimony in the number of coefficients required. The lattice filter formulation transforms the nonlinear filtering problem into an equivalent multichannel linear filtering problem and then uses multichannel lattice filtering algorithms to solve the nonlinear filtering problem. The lattice filters perform a Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization of the input data and have very good easily extended to more general nonlinear output feedback structures.

  • In this paper, the necessity of the filter coefficients compensation for the lattice transversal joint (LTJ) adaptive filter was explained in general and with ease by analyzing it with respect to the time-varying transform domain adaptive filter. And also the reduction method of computational complexity for filter coefficients compensation was proposed using the property that speech signal is stationary during a short time period and its effectiveness was verified through experiments using artificial and real speech signals. The proposed adaptive filter reduces the computational complexity for filter coefficients compensation by 95%, and when the filter is applied to the acoustic echo canceller with 1000 taps, the total complexity is reduced by 82%.

  • This paper presents two fast least-squares lattice algorithms for adaptive nonlinear filters equipped with bilinear system models. The lattice filters perform a Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization of the input data and have very good numerical properties. Furthermore, the computational complexity of the algorithms is an order of magnitude snaller than previously algorithm is an order of magnitude smaller than previously available methods. The first of the two approaches is an equation error algorithm that uses the measured desired response signal directly to comprte the adaptive filter outputs. This method is conceptually very simple`however, it will result in biased system models in the presence of measurement noise. The second approach is an approximate least-squares output error solution. In this case, the past samples of the output of the adaptive system itself are used to produce the filter output at the current time. Results of several experiments that demonstrate and compare the properties of the adaptive bilinear filters are also presented in this paper. These results indicate that the output error algorithm is less sensitive to output measurement noise than the squation error method.

  • In this paper, an improved network echo canceller is proposed. The proposed echo canceller is based on the LTJ(lattice transversal joint) adaptive filter which uses informations from the speech decoder. In the proposed implementation method of the network echo canceller, the filer coefficients of the transversal filter part in the LTJ adaptive filter is updated every other sample instead of every sample. So its complexity can be lower than that of the transversal filter. And the echo cancellation rate can be improved by residual echo cancellation using the lattice predictor whose order is less than 10. Computational complexity of the proposed echo canceller is lower than that of the transversal filter but the convergence speed is faster than that of the transversal filter. The performance improvement of the proposed echo canceller was verified by the experiments using the real speech signal and speech coder.

  • This paper describes a new two-dimensional adaptive lattice algorithm which determines reflection coefficients recursively by applying the gradient search technique to a two-dimensional lattice filter proposed by Parker and Kayran. The convergence characteristics of the proposed algorithm are also described. A new tow-dimensional adaptive lattice \ulcorneralgorithm has been obtained through the application of the \ulcorneralgorithm to the two-dimention adaptive lattice algorithm. Computer simulation proves that the convergence speed of the two-dimension adaptive lattice \ulcorneralgorithm is reladtively higher than that of the conventional adaptive lattice algorithm when \ulcornerhas a small value.

  • A new proposed method can separate heart sounds and lung sounds by the realization of adaptive noise canceler using adaptive lattice Wiener filter in contrast to adaptive transversal LMS filter and high pass filter as before. Lung sounds and ECG signal are detected for this purpose, and especially the second heart sounds are reduced by finding T wave location with a T wave seeking algorithm. As a result, for heart sounds reduction It was found that adaptive transversal LMS filter required 100-200's orders, 75-100's orders In adaptive transversal MLMS filter, and only 10-20's orders in adaptive lattice Wiener filter. Adaptive filtering technique has shown greater accuracy than high pass filtering without loss of low frequency component.

  • Resently there have been increasing interests in adaptive identification and control of flexible structures. In this paper, vector channel lattice filters and their applications to parameter identification of flexible structures are studied. Numerical examples are given to show its performace to estimate the natural frequencies of 5-mass system. It is observed that vector channel lattice filter convetges quickly and identifies modal frequencies even when some of them is unobservable for some measurements. Experimental results demonstrated the ability of the lattice filter to identify the natural frequencies and the damping ratios of cantilever beam and pipe.
