  • In this paper, we investigate the impacts of network topology on the performance of a distributed estimation algorithm, namely combine-then-adaptive (CTA) diffusion LMS, based on the data with or without the assumptions of temporal and spatial independence with noisy links. The study covers different network models, including the regular, small-world, random and scale-free whose the performance is analyzed according to the mean stability, mean-square errors, communication cost (link density) and robustness. Simulation results show that the noisy links do not cause divergence in the networks. Also, among the networks, the scale free network (heterogeneous) has the best performance in the steady state of the mean square deviation (MSD) while the regular is the worst case. The robustness of the networks against the issues like node failure and noisier node conditions is discussed as well as providing some guidelines on the design of a network in real condition such that the qualities of estimations are optimized.

  • To initialize and maintain self-organizing networks such as mobile ad hoc networks, address allocation protocol is essentially required. However, centralized approaches that pervasively used in traditional networks are not recommended in this kind of networks since they cannot handle with mobility efficiently. In addition, previous distributed approaches suffer from inefficiency with control overhead caused by duplicated address detection and management of available address pool. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic address allocation scheme, which is based on adaptive partition. An available address is managed in distributed way by multiple agents and partitioned adaptively according to current network environments. Finally, simulation results reveal that a proposed scheme is superior to previous approach in term of address acquisition delay under diverse simulation scenarios.

  • In this paper auto-tuning scheme of weight function in the neural networks has been suggested by immune algorithm for nonlinear process. A number of structures of the neural networks are considered as learning methods for control system. A general view is provided that they are the special cases of either the membership functions or the modification of network structure in the neural networks. On the other hand, since the immune network system possesses a self organizing and distributed memory, it is thus adaptive to its external environment and allows a PDP (parallel distributed processing) network to complete patterns against the environmental situation. • An important issue in the design of future Personal Communication Service (PCS) networks is the efficient management of location information. In this paper, we propose an adaptive distributed dynamic location management algorithm that stores the position of the mobile terminal in k of the n location information databases (LIDs). The proposed algorithm chooses adaptively k. replication factor according to both the space locality of LIDs in wireless mobile networks and the location query popularity to local mobile terminal from remote mobile terminals. The performance of proposed algorithm is evaluated by both an analytical model and a simulation. Based on the results of performance evaluation, we know that the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than that of Krishnamurthi's algorithm regardless of call-mobility ratio.

  • In this paper, we investigate the performance of the diffusion adaptation strategies for parameter estimation in wireless adaptive networks, where the nodes exchange information over noisy and fading wireless channels. This paper shows the differences between the effect of Rayleigh and Rician fading over wireless adaptive networks and proves that the Rician fading is a more practical model in such kinds of networks. Simulation results imply that the effect of Rayleigh fading is more degrading for the estimation process than Rician fading. Also, the simulation results show the performance of adapt then combine (ATC) diffusion algorithm is better than the combine then adapt (CTA) algorithm by merely considering noise in wireless channels. While the performance of CTA prevails ATC over the wireless adaptive network in the presence of noise plus channel fading.

  • The installation of distributed generation (DG) in the electrical networks has numerous advantages. However, connecting and disconnecting of DGs (CADD) leads to some problems in coordination of protection devices due to the changes in the short circuit levels in the different points of network. In this paper, an adaptive method is proposed based on available setting groups (SG) of relays. Since the number of available SG is less than possible CADD states, a classifying index (CI) is defined to categorize the several states in restricted setting groups. Genetic algorithm (GA) with a suitable objective function (OF) is used as an optimization method for the classification. After grouping, a modified coordination method is applied to achieve optimal coordination for each group. The efficiency of the proposed technique is demonstrated by simulation results.

  • The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and WPANs. In this paper, firstly, a time slot reservation protocol for relay transmission is proposed. Furthermore, we propose a novel relay node selection algorithm adaptive to current UWB link transmission rate. The proposed relay node selection algorithm has compatibility with current WiMedia D-MAC standard and is executed at each device according to the SoQ as a QoS criterion.

  • Future cellular networks will mainly be driven by, high quality channels, high band with utilization, low power consumption and efficient network management. For a given channel allocation, the capacity and quality of communication of cellular radio systems using CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) can be increased by using a transmitter power control scheme to combat the near-far problem. Centralized power control schemes or distributed ones to maximize the minimum signal-to-interference in each user of CDMA wireless network have been investigated. This paper has proposed a distributed power control algorithm, which employs an adaptive search scheme, in order to solve quickly the linear systems of equations for power update in CDMA cellular radio systems. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme has faster convergence rate than the typical bang-bang type of distributed power control algorithm, which has been much used as a reference algorithm in IS-95A and W-CDMA communication network.

  • This paper describes efficient flight control algorithms for building a reconfigurable ad-hoc wireless sensor networks between nodes on the ground and airborne nodes mounted on autonomous vehicles to increase the operational range of an aerial robot or the communication connectivity. Two autonomous flight control algorithms based on adaptive gradient climbing approach are developed to steer the aerial vehicles to reach optimal locations for the maximum communication throughputs in the airborne sensor networks. The first autonomous vehicle control algorithm is presented for seeking the source of a scalar signal by directly using the extremum-seeking based forward surge control approach with no position information of the aerial vehicle. The second flight control algorithm is developed with the angular rate command by integrating an adaptive gradient climbing technique which uses an on-line gradient estimator to identify the derivative of a performance cost function. They incorporate the network performance into the feedback path to mitigate interference and noise. A communication propagation model is used to predict the link quality of the communication connectivity between distributed nodes. Simulation study is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed reconfigurable airborne wireless networking control algorithms.

  • This paper represents that auto tunings of membership functions and weights in the fuzzy neural networks are effectively performed by immune algorithm. A number of hybrid methods in fuzzy-neural networks are considered in the context of tuning of learning method, a general view is provided that they are the special cases of either the membership functions or the gain modification in the neural networks by genetic algorithms. On the other hand, since the immune network system possesses a self organizing and distributed memory, it is thus adaptive to its external environment and allows a PDP (parallel distributed processing) network to complete patterns against the environmental situation. Also, it can provide optimal solution. Simulation results reveal that immune algorithms are effective approaches to search for optimal or near optimal fuzzy rules and weights.
