In the current Internet, the QoS of interactive applications is hardly guaranteed because of variable bandwidth, packet loss and delay. Moreover, VoIP which is becoming an important part of the information infra-structure in these days, is susceptible to network packet loss and end-to-end delay. Therefore, it needs error control mechanisms in network level or application level. The FEC-based error control mechanisms are used for interactive audio application such as VoIP. The FEC sends a main information along with redundant information to recover the lost packets and adjusts redundant information depending on network conditions to reduce the bandwidth overhead. However, because most of the error control mechanisms do not consider end-to-end delay but packet loss rate, their performances are poor. In this paper, we propose a new error control algorithm, SCCRP, considering packet loss rate as well as end-to-end delay. Through experiments, we confirm that the SCCRP has a lower packet loss rate and a lower end-to-end delay after reconstruction.

We newly propose a multiple and unlinkable identity-based public key encryption scheme which allows the use of a various number of identity-based public keys in different groups or applications while keeping a single decryption key so that the decryption key can decrypt every ciphertexts encrypted with those public keys. Also our scheme removes the use of certificates as well as the key escrow problem so it is functional and practical. Since our public keys are unlinkable, the user's privacy can be protected from attackers who collect and trace the user information and behavior using the known public keys. Furthermore, we suggest a decryption key renewal protocol to strengthen the security of the single decryption key. Finally, we prove the security of our scheme against the adaptive chosen-ciphertext attack under the random oracle model.

NAND flash memory has advantages of non-volatility, little power consumption and fast access time. However, it suffers from inability that does not provide to update-in-place and the erase cycle is limited. Moreover, the unit of read/write operation is a page and the unit of erase operation is a block. Therefore, erase operation is slower than other operations. The AGC, the proposed garbage collection policy focuses on not only garbage collection time reduction for real-time guarantee but also wear-leveling for a flash memory lifetime. In order to achieve above goals, we define three garbage collection operating modes: Fast Mode, Smart Mode, and Wear-leveling Mode. The proposed policy decides the garbage collection mode depending on system CPU usage rate. Fast Mode selects the dirtiest block as victim block to minimize the erase operation time. However, Smart Mode selects the victim block by reflecting the invalid page number and block erase count to minimizing the erase operation time and deviation of block erase count. Wear-leveling Mode operates similar to Smart Mode and it makes groups and relocates the pages which has the similar update time. We implemented the proposed policy and measured the performance compare with the existing policies. Simulation results show that the proposed policy performs better than Cost-benefit policy with the 55% reduction in the operation time. Also, it performs better than Greedy policy with the 87% reduction in the deviation of erase count. Most of all, the proposed policy works adaptively according to the CPU usage rate, and guarantees the real-time performance of the system.
The objective of MPEG Media Transport (MMT), which is on going standard, is to develop efficient delivery of media over packet based networks in an adaptive, progressive, download/streaming fashion over various IP based networks, including terrestrial, satellite and cable broadcast networks. In this paper we introduce utilization of signal strength information based on Cross Layer Design(CLD) to efficient multimedia delivery over wireless network in which in practice the wireless conditions can vary significantly. Many recent studies have shown that a significant improvement in wireless video throughput can be achieved by utilizing signal strength information on CLD [1][2]. Despite of its usefulness, however, it was difficult to employ signal strength information in rate adaptation applications due to different representation of signal strength information for each underlying wireless network. To that end, we proposed syntax and semantics of signal strength information in such a way that the information can be interpreted in the unified way. The proposed signal strength information was proposed for the MMT standardization.

This paper presents a fire detection algorithm with a minimal false detection rate, intended for a thermal imaging surveillance environment, whose properties vary depending on temporal conditions of day or night and environmental changes. This algorithm was designed to minimize the false detection alarm rate while ensuring a high detection rate, as required in fire detection applications. It was necessary to reduce false fire detections due to non-flame elements occurring when existing fixed threshold-based fire detection methods were applied. To this end, adaptive flame thresholds that varied depending on the characteristics of input images, as well as the center of gravity of the heat-source and hot-source regions, were analyzed in an attempt to minimize such non-flame elements in the phase of selecting flame candidate blocks. Also, to remove any false detection elements caused by camera shaking, one of the most frequently raised issues at outdoor sites, preliminary decision thresholds were adaptively set to the motion pixel ratio of input images to maximize the accuracy of the preliminary decision. Finally, in addition to the preliminary decision results, the texture correlation and intensity of the flame candidate blocks were averaged for a specific period of time and tested for their conformity with the fire decision conditions before making the final decision. To verify the fire detection performance of the proposed algorithm, a total of ten test videos were subjected to computer simulation. As a result, the fire detection accuracy of the proposed algorithm was determined to be 94.24%, with minimum false detection, demonstrating its improved performance and practicality compared to previous fixed threshold-based algorithms.

The development of multimedia applications followed by development of high-speed networks has improved the performance of mobile devices with high transfer speed broadband. Mobile internet access has made possible seamless indoor and outdoor mobile multicast services. Multicasting services are used to support efficient group communications. However, mobile multicasting services have two constraints: tunnel convergence and handover latency. Many protocols and handover methods have been proposed to address these problems. The inter-LMA optimized handover model for multicasting services has previously been proposed for PMIPv6-based networks. The proposed model removes the tunnel convergence issue and reduces router processing costs. It also makes possible the performance of fast handover operations with adaptive transmission mechanisms. In addition, the proposed scheme exhibits low packet delivery costs and handover latency in comparison with existing schemes, and ensures fast handover when moving the inter-LMA domain

An efficient method for reducing power consumption in pipelined deep packet inspection systems is proposed. It is based on the observation that the number of memory accesses is dominant for the power consumption and the number of accesses drops drastically as the input goes through stages of the pipelined AC-DFA. A DPI system is implemented where the operating frequency of the stages that are not frequently used in the pipeline is reduced to eliminate the waste of power consumption. The power consumption of the proposed DPI system is measured upon various input character set and up to 25% of reduction of total power consumption is obtained, compared to those of the recent DPI systems. The method can be easily applied to other pipelined architecture and string searching applications.
Quadtree-based terrain visualization methods have been used in a lot of applications. However, because most procedures are performed on the CPU, the rendering speed is slow in comparison to methods using GPU. In this paper, we present a quadtree-based terrain visualization method working on the GPU with specially designed data structure, error-texture and LOD-texture, and block-based acceleration method. In preprocessing step, we calculate errors in world space and store them to error-texture. In rendering step, we examine projected errors of error-texture and choose the detail level, then store the projected errors to LOD-texture. View frustum culling is performed as block unit using the values of error-texture and LOD-texture. This method reduces CPU load and performs time consuming jobs such as LOD selection and view frustum culling.

In recent years the interest in online monitoring of lightweight structures with ultrasonic guided waves is steadily growing. Especially the aircraft industry is a driving force in the development of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. In order to optimally design SHM systems powerful and efficient numerical simulation tools to predict the behaviour of ultrasonic elastic waves in thin-walled structures are required. It has been shown that in real industrial applications, such as airplane wings or fuselages, conventional linear and quadratic pure displacement finite elements commonly used to model ultrasonic elastic waves quickly reach their limits. The required mesh density, to obtain good quality solutions, results in enormous computational costs when solving the wave propagation problem in the time domain. To resolve this problem different possibilities are available. Analytical methods and higher order finite element method approaches (HO-FEM), like p-FEM, spectral elements, spectral analysis and isogeometric analysis, are among them. Although analytical approaches offer fast and accurate results, they are limited to rather simple geometries. On the other hand, the application of higher order finite element schemes is a computationally demanding task. The drawbacks of both methods can be circumvented if regions of complex geometry are modelled using a HO-FEM approach while the response of the remaining structure is computed utilizing an analytical approach. The objective of the paper is to present an efficient method to couple different HO-FEM schemes with an analytical description of an undisturbed region. Using this hybrid formulation the numerical effort can be drastically reduced. The functionality of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by studying the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves in plates, excited by a piezoelectric patch actuator. The actuator is modelled utilizing higher order coupled field finite elements, whereas the homogenous, isotropic plate is described analytically. The results of this "semi-analytical" approach highlight the opportunities to reduce the numerical effort if closed-form solutions are partially available.
The determination of the mixture parameters of stabilization has become a great concern in geotechnical applications. This paper presents an effort about the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques including radial basis neural network (RBNN), multi-layer perceptrons (MLP), generalized regression neural network (GRNN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) in order to predict the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of silty soil stabilized with bottom ash (BA), jute fiber (JF) and steel fiber (SF) under different freeze-thaw cycles (FTC). The dosages of the stabilizers and number of freeze-thaw cycles were employed as input (predictor) variables and the UCS values as output variable. For understanding the dominant parameter of the predictor variables on the UCS of stabilized soil, a sensitivity analysis has also been performed. The performance measures of root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and determination coefficient ($R^2$) were used for the evaluations of the prediction accuracy and applicability of the employed models. The results indicate that the predictions due to all AI techniques employed are significantly correlated with the measured UCS ($p{\leq}0.05$). They also perform better predictions than nonlinear regression (NLR) in terms of the performance measures. It is found from the model performances that RBNN approach within AI techniques yields the highest satisfactory results (RMSE = 55.4 kPa, MAE = 45.1 kPa, and $R^2=0.988$). The sensitivity analysis demonstrates that the JF inclusion within the input predictors is the most effective parameter on the UCS responses, followed by FTC.
