Adaptive Stereoscopic-PIV System for the Analyses of the Flow-Structure-Interactions (FSI) of Air-Lifted Bodies (공기부양 물체의 유동-구조 연동운동 해석을 위한 능동형 스테레오-PIV 시스템)

  • Measurements results of flow-structure-interactions (FSI) of an air-lifted body are introduced. An adaptive stereoscopic-PIV system has been constructed for the measurements of the air-lifted body. The measurement system consists of two cameras and optical sensors. The flow characteristics around a lifted cylinder body(length=60mmm, diameter =10mm, polystyrene) in the swirling flow field in a vertical pipe (length=600mm, inner diameter=) are investigated by the use of the constructed adaptive stereoscopic-PIV system. The images of the two cameras were used for the analysis of the flow fields around the floated cylinder body. The images of the cylinder body captured by the two cameras were used for the analyses of its motions. Four optical sensors (LED) were used for the detection of the postures of the freely-lifted cylinder body. The FSI analyses have been carried out to find the physical conditions at which the floating body is stabilized with its upright postures.

  • LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm using steepest descent way in adaptive signal processing requires simple equation and is used widely because of the less complexity. But eigenvalues change by width of input signals in time domain, so the rate of convergence becomes low. In this paper, we propose a new fast running FIR filter structure that improves the convergence speed of adaptive signal processing and the same performance as the existing fast wavelet transform algorithm with less computational complexity. The proposed filter structure is applied to wavelet based adaptive algorithm. Simulation results show a better performance than the existing one.

  • This paper proposes an indirect adaptive fuzzy controller for general SISO nonlinear systems. No a priori information on bounding constants of uncertainties including reconstruction errors and optimal fuzzy parameters is needed. The control law and the update laws for fuzzy rule structure and estimates of fuzzy parameters and bounding constants are determined so that the Lyapunov stability of the whole closed loop system is guaranteed. The computer simulation results for an inverted pendulum system show the performance of the proposed robust adaptive fuzzy controller.

  • In this paper, a robust reduced order adaptive controller is proposed based on Internal Model Control(IMC) structure for stochastic linear stable systems. The concept of gain margin is utilized to make the adaptive IMC controller robust. We prove the stability of the proposed adaptive IMC system for stable plants under the assumption that upper bounds for system orders are known. Simulation results show that the proposed method has good performance and stability robustness.

  • This paper proposes a nonlinear adaptive equalizer which is based on fuzzy rules and fuzzy inference of several affine mapping for the received channel data. The proposed nolonlinear adaptive equalizers with the significantly lower computational complexity. Also it can be applied to the on-line adaptation environments owing to its fast convergence characteristics and the lower computational load. When using the decision feedback vectors, this equaalizer can be easily realized in the form of the DFE structure with out the requirement for the perfect channel knowledge as in the case of the fuzzy adaptive filter.

  • As a method of separating the signal arriving from a desired direction in the presence of noise and interfering signals, a linearly constrained adaptive beamformer based on the escalator (Gram-Schmidt) structure is presented. The weights are chosen to minimize local output power subject to the response constraint. The performances of the proposed escalator adaptive beamformer are compared with those of cascade adaptive beamformer via computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we present a global adaptive output feedback control scheme for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems to which adaptive observer backstepping method may not be applicable directly. The allowed output feedback structure includes quadratic and multiplicative dependency of unmeasured states. Our novel design technique employs a change of coordinates and adaptive backstepping.   • In this paper, a new adaptive analysis scheme for element-free Galerkin method(EFGM) is proposed. The novel point of this scheme is that the triangular cell structure based on the Delaunay triangulation is used in the numerical integration and the node adding/removing process. In adaptive analysis with this scheme, there is no need to divide the integration cell and the memory cell structure. For the adaptive analysis of crack propagation, the reconstruction of cell structure by adding and removing the nodes on integration cells based the estimated error should be carried out at every iteration step by the Delaunay triangulation technique. This feature provides more convenient user interface that is closer to the real mesh-free nature of EFGM. The analysis error is obtained basically by calculating the difference between the values of the projected stresses and the original EFG stresses. To evaluate the performance of proposed adaptive procedure, the crack propagation behavior is investigated for several examples.

Adaptive length SMA pendulum smart tuned mass damper performance in the presence of real time primary system stiffness change

  • In a companion paper, Pasala and Nagarajaiah analytically and experimentally validate the Adaptive Length Pendulum Smart Tuned Mass Damper (ALP-STMD) on a primary structure (2 story steel structure) whose frequencies are time invariant (Pasala and Nagarajaiah 2012). In this paper, the ALP-STMD effectiveness on a primary structure whose frequencies are time varying is studied experimentally. This study experimentally validates the ability of an ALP-STMD to adequately control a structural system in the presence of real time changes in primary stiffness that are detected by a real time observer based system identification. The experiments implement the newly developed Adaptive Length Pendulum Smart Tuned Mass Damper (ALP-STMD) which was first introduced and developed by Nagarajaiah (2009), Nagarajaiah and Pasala (2010) and Nagarajaiah et al. (2010). The ALP-STMD employs a mass pendulum of variable length which can be tuned in real time to the parameters of the system using sensor feedback. The tuning action is made possible by applying a current to a shape memory alloy wire changing the effective length that supports the damper mass assembly in real time. Once a stiffness change in the structural system is detected by an open loop observer, the ALP-STMD is re-tuned to the modified system parameters which successfully reduce the response of the primary system. Significant performance improvement is illustrated for the stiffness modified system, which undergoes the re-tuning adaptation, when compared to the stiffness modified system without adaptive re-tuning.

  • A design method for a single-input single-output discrete time model reference adaptive system is described in this paper. By using the state-variable filters into inputs and outputs in reference model and unknown system, a simple adaptive structure which use all accessible signals can be constructed. Some papers for the adaptive shstem is which thw relative degree of unknown system have one or two have been reported, but the resulting adaptive system are intricate in structures and the design theories for the model reference adaptive system are not generalized. In this paper, for having two or more relative degrees, it has been verified that an adaptive scheme can be obtained by introducing a simple linear filter.
