To realize the wireless packet scheduler which efficiently considers both the effect of adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme due to variable wireless communication channel information from physical layer and the QoS differentiation of multimedia services from internet protocol (IP) layer, this paper proposes a new downlink AMC-based priority queuing (APQ) scheduler which combines AMC scheme and service priority method in multimedia services at the same time. The result of numerical analysis shows that the proposed APQ algorithm plays a role in increasing the number of services satisfying the mean waiting time requirements per each service in multimedia services because the APQ scheme allows the mean waiting time of each service to be reduced much more than existing packet scheduler having only user selection processor.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive trellis-coded Multipe Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (ATCMQAM) for slowly varying Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed system adaptively controls the coding rate combined with modulation level of pargmatic approach to trellis-coded modulation according to the instantaneous fading channel conditions, and employs MQAM as modulation scheme. Results by computer simulation show that the proposed adaptive model using MQAM can realize higher quality transmission with the improvement more than 0.5~1 bit in average bit rate, and there is a coding gain of 2~5 dB, depending on the high SNR value, compared with the conventional adaptive model employing MPSK.

In this paper, we propose and observe a system that adopts Independent-MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) level for each layer in the combined AMC-V-BLAST (Adaptive Modulation and Coding-Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) system. Also, comparing with the combined system using Common-MCS level, we observe throughput performance improvement. As a result of simulation, Independent-MCS level case adapts modulation and coding scheme for maximum throughput to each channel condition in separate layer, resulting in improved throughput compared to Common-MCS level case. Especially, the results show that the combined AMC-V-BLAST system with Independent-MCS level achieves a gain of 700kbps in $7dB{\sim}9dB$ SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) range.
Mobile WiMAX does not guarantee the media qualities because it does not consider the characteristics of video coding techniques. In this paper, PC-MCA(Priority-based Combining adaptive Modulation and Coding with ARQ), a priority based channel-adaptive streaming scheme, is proposed to guarantee media qualities. PC-MCA uses QoS scheduler by scheduling priority of the media and differentially controls modulation and coding schemes according to wireless channel condition and frame priorities. It also guarantees multimedia service quality through video decoding reliability.
The demand on various broadcasting services has been greatly increasing in the area of mobile communication. In IEEE802.16e standard and mobile WiMAX, the multicast broadcast service (MBS) uses shared downlink channel for efficiently supporting a number of users. In this paper we propose a dynamic modulation and coding scheme with relay network to enhance the performance of MBS. The proposed approach employs the adaptive modulation and coding scheme for both the base station and relay station to achieve consistently high throughput. The result of computer simulation with NS-2 shows that the throughput and transmission time are significantly improved by using the proposed approach compared to the existing schemes having a fixed modulation level for the RSs.

In the wireless adaptive modulation and coding(AMC) systems, the modulation type of user's connection can be changed dynamically. and the ongoing connection might fail due to the change of modulation. In this paper, we approach the AMC-induced CAC problem by focusing on the guaranteed connection. Three kinds of calls, new, handoff, and modulation-changed calls, are considered. We propose a modified guard channel CAC scheme that allows the modulation-changed and handoff calls to use the guard channel. Then we analyze a Markov model for the CAC scheme with long-term AMC in mind. According to the simulation results, the proposed approach reduces the call dropping probability for modulation-changed calls, which suggests the threshold of guard channels can be determined based on the proposed approach.

본 논문에서는 링크 상황에 따라서 변복조 방식과 코딩 방식을 달리하는 기술인 AMC(Adaptive Modulation and Coding)기능과 연동하는 2 단계 ARQ(Automatic Repeat Request)방식을 제안하여 한정된 무선채널을 여러 종류의 서비스와 여러 가입자가 동시에 공유하는 경우에 발생되는 QoS(Quality of Service) 문제를 해결하고자 한다. 따라서 TCP(Transmission Control Protocol)단에서의 재전송 감소에 의한 향상된 성능도 기대할 수가 있겠다.

In this paper, we combine AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) with MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) multiplexing to improve the throughput performance of AMC in Next Generation Communication Mobile Systems. In addition, we propose a system that adopts STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) in the combined system. The received SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) is improved by adopting STD techniques and an improved SNR increases a probability of selecting MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) level that supports higher data rate. The computer simulation is performed in flat Rayleigh fading channel. The results show that higher throughput is achieved by AMC-TD schemes. AMC-STTD scheme shows about 250kbps increase in throughput. And AMC-STD with 2 transmit antennas achieves about 420 kbps throughput improvement over the conventional AMC at 9dB SNR.
We propose a link adaptation and selection method for the links constituting an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based wireless relay network. The proposed link adaptation and selection method selects the forwarding, modulation, and channel coding schemes providing the highest end-to-end throughput and decides whether to use the relay or not. The link adaptation and selection is done for each sub-channel based on instantaneous signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) conditions in the source-to-destination, source-to-relay and relay-to-destination links. The considered forwarding schemes are amplify and forward (AF) and simple adaptive decode and forward (DF). Efficient adaptive modulation and coding decision rules are provided for various relaying schemes. The proposed end-to-end link adaptation and selection method ensures that the end-to-end throughput is always larger than or equal to that of transmissions without relay and non-adaptive relayed transmissions. Our evaluations show that over the region where relaying improves the end-to-end throughput, the DF scheme provides significant throughput gain over the AF scheme provided that the error propagation is avoided via error detection techniques. We provide a frame structure to enable the proposed link adaptation and selection method for orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-time division duplex relay networks based on the IEEE 802.16e standard.
