  • As network adaptive streaming technology becomes increasingly common, transport protocol also becomes important in guaranteeing the quality of multimedia streaming. At the same time, because of the appearance of high-quality video such as Ultra High Definition (UHD), preventing buffering as well as preserving high quality while deploying a streaming service becomes important. The Internet Engineering Task Force recently published Multipath TCP (MPTCP). MPTCP improves the maximum transmission rate by simultaneously transmitting data over different paths with multiple TCP subflows. However, MPTCP cannot preserve high quality, because the MPTCP subflows slowly increase the transmission rate, and upon detecting a packet loss, drastically halve the transmission rate. In this paper, we propose a new multipath congestion control scheme for high-quality multimedia streaming. The proposed scheme preserves high quality of video by adaptively adjusting the increasing parameter of subflows according to the network status. The proposed scheme also increases network efficiency by providing load balancing and stability, and by supporting fairness with single-flow congestion control schemes.

  • Video streaming applications such as Netflix and Youtube are widely used in our daily life. A DASH based streaming client exploits adaptive bit rate (ABR) method to choose the most appropriate video source representation that the network can support. In this paper we propose a novel energy-aware ABR scheme that adds the ability to monitor energy efficiency in addition to the linear quadratic regulator algorithm we previously introduced. Our trace-driven simulation studies show that our proposed scheme mitigates and shortens re-buffering, resulting in energy savings of mobile devices while preserving the similar QoE compared to the state-of-the-art ABR algorithms.

  • In this paper, we propose a group playback synchronization method using adaptive synchronization delay time by the bit rate of media to synchronize a play position of streaming media between mobile smart devices. This method consists of streaming server-side and client-side synchronization algorithms based on synchronization delay time which includes connection time, control packet transmission time, streaming data buffering time, and synchronization processing time. We implement the Android media player application with synchronization support using the proposed algorithms and present the result of performance evaluation.

  • In this paper, we propose the adaptive separated-queueing ATM switching model for the effective processing of the various types of multimedia traffic by virtue of ATM switching network with multiple outlets which is the essential part of B-ISDN. This proposed model employs the dynamically separated buffering mechanism in the processing of two classes of cell, realtime service traffic and non-realtime service traffic, at the output buffer to enhance the overall QoS(Quality of Service). The adopted ATM switch architecture has Batcher-banyan based network, but it uses different topologies and control techniques 6to resolve the cell contention. For the performance evaluation of our proposed method, we have done both analytical modeling and simulation. The both results show that our proposed queueing strategy is quite appropriate to the ATM switch with multiple outlets and can quarantee the QoS requirements of the incoming multimedia traffic.

  • This paper describes a hybrid QoS guarantee scheme for high quality audio streaming services on the Internet. The continuous playback of the audio data requires the isochronous transmission of the audio data packet through the Internet. In order to retain the QoS at the ultimate destination (client) as the same as servers provide, the transmission protocols should consider the error conditions such as packet loss, and out of order delivery. Generally, the protocols supporting the transmission of continuous media data do not try to recover the errors. The protocols are working somehow for the toll quality multimedia streaming services, but rot for the high quality streaming services, such as the DVD sound/music payback. The hybrid QoS guarantee scheme includes the three mechanisms to overcome the problem. The selective retransmission for the lost packet, the adaptive buffering at client-side, and the adaptive transmission rate at server-side are totally adopted to recover the packet loss with the minimal overhead, to prevent from the buffer starvation during the retransmission, and to maintain the isochronous transmission even after the retransmission. The experiments have shown good results for the high Quality audio streaming services on the Internet.

  • In today's technology streaming service's QoS technologiey is an issue. On quality video streaming service there are some technical issues exist, such as buffering. This submission is "Adaptive dual-streaming system design" which is for the integrity of the data streaming that is sent to TCP and UDP for faster transmission of data to the stream. This system provides real-time incoming video encoding in bitrate of h.264-based H through a process based on the video footage of several server and client-to-TCP and UDP via Adaptive providing streaming services in a network environment. This is an unspecified number of buffers in a network environment and continued through the minimization of various streaming for playback of videos and multimedia will be utilized in the field.

  • As the noise canceler with a small processing delay increases the sampling frequency, a better-quality output can be obtained. For a single buffer, processing delay occurs because it is impossible to write new data while the processor is processing the data. When synthesizing with anti-noise and output signal, this processing delay creates additional buffering overhead to match the phase. In this paper, we propose an accelerator structure that minimizes processing delay and increases processing speed by alternately performing read and write operations using the Symmetric Even-Odd-buffer. In addition, we compare the structural differences between the two methods of noise cancellation (Fast Fourier Transform noise cancellation and adaptive Least Mean Square algorithm). As a result, using an Symmetric Even-Odd-buffer the processing delay was reduced by 29.2% compared to a single buffer. The proposed Symmetric Even-Odd-buffer structure has the advantage that it can be applied to various canceling algorithms.

  • Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube are the most popular and fastest-growing streaming services globally. It is a matter of great interest for the streaming service providers to preview their service infrastructure and streaming strategy in order to provide new streaming services. Hence, the first part of the paper presents a detailed survey of the Content Distribution Network (CDN) and cloud infrastructure of these service providers. To understand the streaming strategy of these service providers, the second part of the paper deduces a common quality-of-service (QoS) model based on rebuffering time, bitrate, progressive download ratio, and standard deviation of the On-Off cycle. This model is then used to analyze and compare the streaming behaviors of these services. This study concluded that the streaming behaviors of all these services are similar as they all use Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) on top of TCP. However, the amount of data that they download in the buffering state and steady-state vary, resulting in different progressive download ratios, rebuffering levels, and bitrates. The characteristics of their On-Off cycle are also different resulting in different QoS. Hence a thorough adaptive bit rate (ABR) analysis is presented in this paper. The streaming behaviors of these services are tested on different access network bandwidths, ranging from 75 kbps to 30 Mbps. The survey results indicate that Netflix QoS and streaming behavior are significantly consistent followed by Amazon Prime and YouTube. Our approach can be used to compare and contrast the streaming services' strategies and finetune their ABR and flow control mechanisms.

  • The quality of real-time voice communication over Internet Protocol networks based on telematics is affected by network impairments such as delays, jitters, and packet loss. To resolve this issue, this paper proposes a receiver-based enhancing method of VoIP speech quality. The proposed method enables users to deliver high-quality voice using playout control and signal reconstruction, which consists of concealment of lost packets, adaptive playout-buffer scheduling using active jitter estimation, and smooth interpolation between two signals in a transition region. The proposed algorithm achieves higher Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ) values and low buffering delay than the reference algorithm.

  • Deferred Shading is a shading technique that postprocesses pixels in the screen space, following geometry-only rendering passes with depth buffering. Unlike typical shadow mapping techniques, this technique allows us to render shadows from multiple light sources without changing the structure of the rendering pipelines. This paper presents a deferred shadow mapping technique and its extension to soft shadows using mipmapping. Our technique first generates visibility maps from light sources, and blurs the visibility maps for deferred shading. This strategy leads to efficient soft-edged shadows, but does not incorporate depth variation, producing light bleeding to some extent. In order to suppress the light-bleeding artifacts, we also propose a depth-adaptive mipmap sampling technique in the screen space.
