  • Construction automation is needed to improve construction productivity. 3D printing is a key technology of the 4th industrial revolution, and when applied to the construction field, the ripple effect is very large. In this paper, we propose a 3D printing method that can predict the 3D printing process and estimate the construction duration for each process. Through literature review and expert consultation, eight 3D printing activities for structure work were derived. Construction duration and cost estimation for each activity will be needed in the future research.

  • A simple, efficient and cost effective method is described for the synthesis of Biginelli type heterocyclic compounds of dihydropyrimidinones analogous. They were prepared from a reaction mixture consisting of substituted benzaldehydes, thiourea and ethylacetoacetate using ammonium dihydrogenphosphate as catalyst. The procedure for the preparation of the compounds is environmentally benign and safe which is advantageous in terms of experimentation, catalyst reusability, yields of the products, shorter reaction times and preclusion of toxic solvents. The four new synthesised compounds were tested for their antifungal activity. They have good antifungal activity comparing to the standard (Fluconazole).

  • This research has a purpose to develop strategies for application and introduction of activitiy based costing for Korean hospitals. A 700 bed-sized general hospital in Taejon was chosen to conduct this study. The conventional costing and ABC methods were simultaneously applied to the Obstetrics & Gynecology department, using data surveyed from June 21 to 30, 1998. The difference of two costing methods' results were analyzed and ABC's superiority was recognized. It showed that the new ABC model was more rational, fair, and objective in allocating indirect costs. The strategies to introduce ABC model to hospitals were suggested as followings: 1)a committee to manage ABC should be organized; 2)education for the employees about costing and cost saving should be provided; 3)the computerized ABC program should be developed; and 4)more advanced and rigourous methods to identify activities and measure the resource consumption should be developed.

  • Low back pain has been known as the most frequent musuculoskeletal disorders in modern industrial society and cost by low back pain is increasing mon and more. The asymmetric lifting has been identified as a major risk factor of low back pain. In this study, the muscle activity and muscle exertion level during asymmetric load handling (without trunk flexion) was estimated. The results of normalized MVC measurement were decreased about 16%, 24%, 34% respectively as the asymmetric angle was $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$. From the results of EMG measurement contralateral muscles were more active than ipsilateral muscles. RMSEMG values of right erector spinae muscles were decreased as the work posture went to 90$^{\circ}$ and those of left erector spinae muscles were increased until the asymmetric angle was 40$^{\circ}$ but decreased continually over 40$^{\circ}$. And for seven of subjects, activities of left and right latissimus dorsi muscles were maintained constantly, while for remainer, those were irregular.

  • Fish skin waste accounts for part of the solid waste generated from seafood processing. Utilization of fish skin by bioconversion into high-grade products would potentially reduce pollution and economic cost associated with treating fish processing waste. Fish skin is an abundant supply of gelatin and collagen which can be hydrolyzed to produce bioactive peptides of 2-20 amino acid sequences. Bioactivity of peptides purified from fish skin includes a range of activities such as antihypertensive, anti-oxidative, antimicrobial, neuroprotection, antihyperglycemic, and anti-aging. Fish skin acts as a physical barrier and chemical barrier through antimicrobial peptide innate immune action and other functional peptides. Small peptides have been demonstrated to possess biological activities which are based on their amino acid composition and sequence. Fish skin-derived peptides contain a high content of hydrophobic amino acids which contribute to the antioxidant and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory activity. The peptide-specific composition and sequence discussed in this review can be potentially utilized in the development of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products.

  • The technological advancement in computer vision has made system like grab-and-go grocery a reality. Now all the shoppers have to do now is to walk in grab the items and go out without having to wait in the long queues. This paper presents an intelligent retail environment system that is capable of monitoring and tracking customer's activity during shopping based on their interaction with the shelf. It aims to develop a system that is low cost, easy to mount and exhibit adequate performance in real environment.

  • Korean government has granted fixed indirect cost rates to several exceptional R&D programs which is lower than the predetermined rate by the government. It has been needed to evaluate the validity of exceptional R&D programs and determine the optimal indirect costs rate of the programs. This study analyzes the cost structure and explores drivers of indirect costs of exceptional R&D programs and evaluates the validity of current indirect costs rates. Finally, we propose the formulas for indirect costs rates of exceptional R&D programs. We analyze the cost structure of the exceptional R&D programs. Equipments and material costs are 50% in infra building program. Scholarship to students is 43% in HRD program. Equipments and material costs are 50% and R&D activity costs are 31% in international R&D program. Main cost components of evaluation program are salary(37%), R&D execution costs(21%) and R&D activity costs(19%). We propose three formulas of indirect costs for exceptional programs. 1) The cost items with exceptionally large amount are excluded in the base of formula for indirect costs. 2) Fixed indirect cost rate is applied for specific R&D programs. 3) Upper bound is set for the cost items with exceptionally large amount in the calculation of indirect costs rate. Our proposal is expected to contribute to the improvement of the efficiency of national R&D programs.

  • The purpose of this paper is to estimate the total damage cost (i.e., individual welfare loss) due to dust-sand storm (DSS) in Korea, using contingent valuation method. CV market scenario is designed to elicit individual WTP for reducing the currently 14 days of average DSS per year by 50 percent. Question about the shares of various types of damage costs are directly asked after the respondent answered about his or her WTP in CV questionnaire. The yearly damage cost due to DSS is 29,510 won(95% C.I. 24,565~35,452won) in the case of an individual, therefore amounts to 444.1 billion won(95% C.I. 407.3~481.0 billion won) for the whole nation. The cost of amenity reduction counted as 33.8% is 150.1 billion won(95% C.I. 137.7~162.6 billion won); the cost of increase in morbidity counted as 36.6% amounts to 162.5 billion won(95% C.I. 149.1~176.0 billion won); the cost of averting behaviors counted as 14.5% is 64.4 billion won(95% C.I. 59.1~69.7 billion won); and the cost of car wash, activity restriction and so on, which was counted as 15.1%, amounts to 67.1 billion won(95% C.I. 61.5~72.6 billion won).

  • The purpose of study was to broaden our knowledge on the productivity and cost of thinning operations which has become increasingly practiced in Korea. The thinning operations were conducted in a 40-year old larch (Larix leptolepis) stand, including chainsaw felling and processing at the stump, followed by yarding tree-length logs using a Koller K301-4 tower yarder. The logs were further processed and sorted into 1.8 m and 3.6 m log piles at the landing. We used a standard time study method to evaluate key variables that affect the productivity of thinning operations. The total stump-to-pile operational cost was $41,707won/m^3$. The highest cost activity was the yarding phase which cost $20,083won/m^3$ (48.2% of the total cost), followed by the costs of processing treelength materials into marketable log lengths ($12,143won/m^3$; 29.1%), and then by the costs of sorting/piling the processed logs ($5,039won/m^3$; 12.1%). It was interesting to see that felling and processing trees at the stump had low costs at $1,315won/m^3$ (3.2%) and $3,127won/m^3$ (7.5%), respectively. We used the detailed time study data to develop regression equations which were to predict yarding productivity. Our analysis showed that harvesting system cost was highly sensitive to the number of logs, yarding distance and lateral distance per turn, respectively.
