헬리콥터 회전날개깃의 안정성 해석과 제어 (Aeromechanical stability analysis and control of helicopter rotor blades)

  • 복합재로 된 회전날개깃을 상자보로 모델링하고 수동/능동 감쇠를 주기 위해 ACL(Active Constrained Damping Layer)을 상하양면에 부착하고 복합변위이론에 기초한 유한요소방법을 이용하여 구조해석을 수행하였다. 이 이론은 ACL내의 복합재와 점탄성층 그리고 압전층의 전단변형효과를 정확하게 모델링하는데 효과적이다. Hankel 의 특이값을 이용해 축차모델을 유도하였으며 축차모델과 측정된 출력에 기초한 LQG 제어기를 설계하였다. 그러나 LQG 제어기는 공칭 운전속도에서는 좋은 성능을 보여주었으나 운전속도가 변하는 상황에 대해서는 강인안정성을 보여주지 못했다. 이 LQG제어기의 강인안정성을 개선하기 위하여 루프전달회복을 통한 강인한 제어기를 설계하였다. 수치 예를 통해 제시된 제어기가 회전날개깃의 공기역학적인 안정성을 개선하는데 효과적이며 동체모드와 연계된 리드-래그 모드감쇠를 증가시켜 회전날개깃의 진동을 효과적으로 억제하는 것을 보였다.

Detecting the Honeycomb Sandwich Composite Material's Moisture Impregnating Defects by Using Infrared Thermography Technique

  • Many composite materials are used in the aerospace industry because of their excellent mechanical properties. However, the nature of aviation exposes these materials to high temperature and high moisture conditions depending on climate, location, and altitude. Therefore, the molecular arrangement chemical properties, and mechanical properties of composite materials can be changed under these conditions. As a result, surface disruptions and cracks can be created. Consequently, moisture-impregnating defects can be induced due to the crack and delamination of composite materials as they are repeatedly exposed to moisture absorption moisture release, fatigue environment, temperature changes, and fluid pressure changes. This study evaluates the possibility of detecting the moisture-impregnating defects of CFRP and GFRP honeycomb structure sandwich composite materials, which are the composite materials in the aircraft structure, by using an active infrared thermography technology among non-destructive testing methods. In all experiments, it was possible to distinguish the area and a number of CFRP composite materials more clearly than those of GFRP composite material. The highest detection rate was observed in the heating duration of 50 mHz and the low detection rate was at the heating duration of over 500 mHz. The reflection method showed a higher detection rate than the transmission method.

Height Dependence of Plasma Properties in a Solar Limb Active Region Observed by Hinode/EIS

  • We investigate a cool loop and a dark lane over a limb active region on 2007 March 14 by the Hinode/EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS). The cool loop is clearly seen in the EIS spectral lines formed at the transition region temperature (log T = 5.8). The dark lane is characterized by an elongated faint structure in coronal spectral lines (log T = 5.8 - 6.1) and rooted on a bright point. We examine their electron densities, Doppler velocities, and non-thermal velocities as a function of distance from the limb using the spectral lines formed at different temperatures (log T = 5.4 - 6.4). The electron densities of the cool loop and the dark lane are derived from the density sensitive line pairs of Mg VII, Fe XII, and Fe XIV spectra. Under the hydrostatic equilibrium and isothermal assumption, we determine their temperatures from the density scale height. Comparing the scale height temperatures to the peak formation temperatures of the spectral lines, we note that the scale height temperature of the cool loop is consistent with a peak formation temperature of the Mg VII (log T = 5.8) and the scale height temperature of the dark lane is close to a peak formation temperature of the Fe XII and Fe XIII (log T = 6.1 - 6.2). It is interesting to note that the structures of the cool loop and the dark lane are most visible in these temperature lines. While the non-thermal velocity in the cool loop slightly decreases (less than 7 km $s^{-1}$) along the loop, that in the dark lane sharply falls off with height. The variation of non-thermal velocity with height in the cool loop and the dark lane is contrast to that in off-limb polar coronal holes which are considered as source of the fast solar wind. Such a decrease in the non-thermal velocity may be explained by wave damping near the solar surface or turbulence due to magnetic reconnection near the bright point.

  • The piping system accounts for a large portion of the machinery structure of a plant, and is considered as a very important mechanical structure for plant safety. Accordingly, it is used in most energy plants in the nuclear, gas, and heavy chemical industries. In particular, the piping system for a nuclear plant is generally complicated and uses the reactor and its cooling system. The piping equipment is exposed to diverse loads such as weight, temperature, pressure, and seismic load from pipes and fluids, and is used to transfer steam, oil, and gas. In ultrasound infrared thermography, which is an active thermography technology, a 15-100 kHz ultrasound wave is applied to the subject, and the resulting heat from the defective parts is measured using a thermography camera. Because this technique can inspect a large area simultaneously and detect defects such as cracks and delamination in real time, it is used to detect defects in the new and renewable energy, car, and aerospace industries, and recently, in piping defect detection. In this study, ultrasound infrared thermography is used to detect information for the diagnosis of nuclear equipment and structures. Test specimens are prepared with piping materials for nuclear plants, and the optimally designed ultrasound horn and ultrasound vibration system is used to determine damages on nuclear plant piping and detect defects. Additionally, the detected images are used to improve the reliability of the surface and internal defect detection for nuclear piping materials, and their field applicability and reliability is verified.

램파의 분산성과 파 반사가 시간반전과정에 미치는 영향의 이해 (Understanding the Effects of the Dispersion and Reflection of Lamb Waves on a Time Reversal Process)

  • 이 연구에서는 얇은 판형구조물의 손상탐지에 널리 사용되어오는 램파에 시간반전(time reversal)개념의 적용성을 이론적으로 규명한다. 고전적 시간반전 음향학에 의하면, 센서에서의 출력신호를 시간영역에서 반전 후 재입사시켜 원래의 가진점으로 돌려보내면, 그 가진점에서 원래 입력신호가 복원된다. 그러나 램파에 시간반전과정을 적용하게 되면 램파 고유의 분산성과 판 경계에서의 파 반사로 인해 시간반전성이 복잡한 양상을 띠게 된다. 이러한 램파의 시간반전성을 보다 잘 이해하기 위해 이 연구에서는 램파의 시간반전과정을 이론적으로 규명한다. 특히, 램파의 내부모드분산, 다중모드분산, 그리고 판 경계면에서의 램파의 반사가 시간반전성에 미치는 영향을 정식화하였다 간단한 수치예제를 통해 이 연구에서 제시된 이론적 발견들의 타당성을 검증한다.

A Probabilistic Approach for Mobile Robot Localization under RFID Tag Infrastructures

  • SLAM(Simultaneous localization and mapping) and AI(Artificial intelligence) have been active research areas in robotics for two decades. In particular, localization is one of the most important issues in mobile robot research. Until now expensive sensors like a laser sensor have been used for the mobile robot's localization. Currently, as the RFID reader devices like antennas and RFID tags become increasingly smaller and cheaper, the proliferation of RFID technology is advancing rapidly. So, in this paper, the smart floor using passive RFID tags is proposed and, passive RFID tags are mainly used to identify the mobile robot's location on the smart floor. We discuss a number of challenges related to this approach, such as RFID tag distribution (density and structure), typing and clustering. In the smart floor using RFID tags, because the reader just can senses whether a RFID tag is in its sensing area, the localization error occurs as much as the sensing area of the RFID reader. And, until now, there is no study to estimate the pose of mobile robot using RFID tags. So, in this paper, two algorithms are suggested to. We use the Markov localization algorithm to reduce the location(X,Y) error and the Kalman Filter algorithm to estimate the pose(q) of a mobile robot. We applied these algorithms in our experiment with our personal robot CMR-P3. And we show the possibility of our probability approach using the cheap sensors like odometers and RFID tags for the mobile robot's localization on the smart floor.

국소 자기장의 순/역 배열을 이용한 미세유체 채널 내에서의 강자성 입자 패턴 형성 (In-situ Patterning of Magnetic Particles in Microfluidic Channels by Forward/Reverse Local Magnet Arrangement)

  • 유체채널 내에서의 미세입자의 패터닝은 생물 및 의료 응용분야에서 활용될 가치가 높은 응용 기술이다. 본 연구는 미세유체 채널 내에서 구조물 없이 외부 자석의 배열만을 이용한 미세입자 패터닝 방법을 제안한다. 자석의 같은 극과 서로 다른 극끼리의 배열을 이용한 일렬 배열, 적층 배열 등을 고안하여, 다양한 미세입자 패터닝에 실험적으로 적용하였다. 서로 같은 극끼리의 배열은 입자 포획에 쉽게 적용 가능하여, 독립적 배열이 가능하였다. 특히 적층 배열은 다양한 패터닝을 할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 자기력 1.08mT 수준에서까지 자석 배열에 의한 일정한 패턴을 관찰할 수 있었고, 패터닝된 입자들은 20 ml/hr 의 유체 속도에서도 안정하게 유지되었다. 본 연구는 간단하면서도 자성 입자의 다양한 패터닝을 가능케 하는 방법으로 면역자기성 입자를 이용한 의학/바이오 분야로의 폭넓은 응용을 기대케 한다.

커피 폐기물 기반의 질소가 포함된 다공성 탄소 섬유의 제조 및 전기화학적 응용 (Synthesis of Nitrogen-Doped Porous Carbon Fibers Derived from Coffee Waste and Their Electrochemical Application)

  • 본 연구에서는 커피 폐기물 기반의 질소가 포함된 다공성 탄소 섬유 형태로 제조하여 고에너지 EDLC용 탄소 소재로 활용하고자 하였다. 커피 폐기물은 분쇄과정을 거쳐 폴리비닐피롤리돈과 용매인 다이메틸폼아마이드에 혼합한 후 전기방사를 통해 커피 폐기물 기반의 섬유 형태(Bare-CWNF)의 물질로 만들었으며, 질소 분위기의 900℃에서 탄화를 진행하여 커피 폐기물 기반의 질소가 포함된 다공성 섬유 형태(Carbonized-CWNF)의 물질을 제조하였다. Carbonized-CWNF는 Bare-CWNF와 같이 섬유 형태를 유지하였으며 질소 함량 역시 유지되는 것을 확인하였다. 커피 폐기물의 탄화 탄소(Carbonized-CW)및 폴리아크릴로나이트릴 기반의 탄소섬유(Carbonized-PNF)를 Carbonized-CWNF와 -1.0-0.0V의 전압 범위에서 전기화학적 성능을 비교한 결과, Carbonized-CWNF가 가장 높은 비정전용량(123.8F g-1 @ 1A g-1)을 확보할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 커피 폐기물 기반의 질소가 함유된 다공성 탄소 섬유가 고에너지 EDLC(Electric double layer capacitor)용 전극으로 우수한 성능을 나타내는 것을 확인하였다. 최종적으로, 환경 오염의 원인이 되는 식물성 바이오매스 중 커피 폐기물을 활용하여 친환경성을 확보하였고, 식물성 바이오매스와 같은 폐기물을 슈퍼커패시터와 같은 고성능 에너지 저장 매체로의 탈바꿈 할 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다.

Recent research activities on hybrid rocket in Japan

  • Hybrid rockets have lately attracted attention as a strong candidate of small, low cost, safe and reliable launch vehicles. A significant topic is that the first commercially sponsored space ship, SpaceShipOne vehicle chose a hybrid rocket. The main factors for the choice were safety of operation, system cost, quick turnaround, and thrust termination. In Japan, five universities including Hokkaido University and three private companies organized "Hybrid Rocket Research Group" from 1998 to 2002. Their main purpose was to downsize the cost and scale of rocket experiments. In 2002, UNISEC (University Space Engineering Consortium) and HASTIC (Hokkaido Aerospace Science and Technology Incubation Center) took over the educational and R&D rocket activities respectively and the research group dissolved. In 2008, JAXA/ISAS and eleven universities formed "Hybrid Rocket Research Working Group" as a subcommittee of the Steering Committee for Space Engineering in ISAS. Their goal is to demonstrate technical feasibility of lowcost and high frequency launches of nano/micro satellites into sun-synchronous orbits. Hybrid rockets use a combination of solid and liquid propellants. Usually the fuel is in a solid phase. A serious problem of hybrid rockets is the low regression rate of the solid fuel. In single port hybrids the low regression rate below 1 mm/s causes large L/D exceeding a hundred and small fuel loading ratio falling below 0.3. Multi-port hybrids are a typical solution to solve this problem. However, this solution is not the mainstream in Japan. Another approach is to use high regression rate fuels. For example, a fuel regression rate of 4 mm/s decreases L/D to around 10 and increases the loading ratio to around 0.75. Liquefying fuels such as paraffins are strong candidates for high regression fuels and subject of active research in Japan too. Nakagawa et al. in Tokai University employed EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) to modify viscosity of paraffin based fuels and investigated the effect of viscosity on regression rates. Wada et al. in Akita University employed LTP (Low melting ThermoPlastic) as another candidate of liquefying fuels and demonstrated high regression rates comparable to paraffin fuels. Hori et al. in JAXA/ISAS employed glycidylazide-poly(ethylene glycol) (GAP-PEG) copolymers as high regression rate fuels and modified the combustion characteristics by changing the PEG mixing ratio. Regression rate improvement by changing internal ballistics is another stream of research. The author proposed a new fuel configuration named "CAMUI" in 1998. CAMUI comes from an abbreviation of "cascaded multistage impinging-jet" meaning the distinctive flow field. A CAMUI type fuel grain consists of several cylindrical fuel blocks with two ports in axial direction. The port alignment shifts 90 degrees with each other to make jets out of ports impinge on the upstream end face of the downstream fuel block, resulting in intense heat transfer to the fuel. Yuasa et al. in Tokyo Metropolitan University employed swirling injection method and improved regression rates more than three times higher. However, regression rate distribution along the axis is not uniform due to the decay of the swirl strength. Aso et al. in Kyushu University employed multi-swirl injection to solve this problem. Combinations of swirling injection and paraffin based fuel have been tried and some results show very high regression rates exceeding ten times of conventional one. High fuel regression rates by new fuel, new internal ballistics, or combination of them require faster fuel-oxidizer mixing to maintain combustion efficiency. Nakagawa et al. succeeded to improve combustion efficiency of a paraffin-based fuel from 77% to 96% by a baffle plate. Another effective approach some researchers are trying is to use an aft-chamber to increase residence time. Better understanding of the new flow fields is necessary to reveal basic mechanisms of regression enhancement. Yuasa et al. visualized the combustion field in a swirling injection type motor. Nakagawa et al. observed boundary layer combustion of wax-based fuels. To understand detailed flow structures in swirling flow type hybrids, Sawada et al. (Tohoku Univ.), Teramoto et al. (Univ. of Tokyo), Shimada et al. (ISAS), and Tsuboi et al. (Kyushu Inst. Tech.) are trying to simulate the flow field numerically. Main challenges are turbulent reaction, stiffness due to low Mach number flow, fuel regression model, and other non-steady phenomena. Oshima et al. in Hokkaido University simulated CAMUI type flow fields and discussed correspondence relation between regression distribution of a burning surface and the vortex structure over the surface.
