  • Chrysanthemum showed worse grow of wilt to death during summer at the field which is Allium fistulosum (welsh onion) plants had been cultivated. This study was carried out to analysis of activative inhibitors of chrysanthemum from root exudate of Allium fistulosum. Bioassay experiments with welsh onion root exudate were conducted and the biologically active compounds were determined. The results were obtained as follows. The root exudate of welsh onion inhibited root and hypocotyl growth of chrysanthemum and lettuce at low concentration(10ppm). The inhibitory effects was higher in closed bottom box but with drain hole than in open bottom box plot. The inhibitory substance contained in root exudate was analysed as vanillic acid. This phenolic acid was also detected in stem-leaf and root of welsh onion.

  • A facultative anaerobe Enterococcus faecium 19-46-4 was used to study the production of an antimicrobial substance in anaerobic conditions. Major part of the antibiotic activity was found in the culture filtrate of the bacterium. The active compound was extracted by an equal volume of iso-butanol and concentrated in vacuo (at 50$\circ$C) before purification by C-18 liguid column chromatography and HPLC. A chromatographically pure compound was obtained by two passages of HPLC columns, The compound appeared as a pale-yellow powder. The yield was about 2.5 mg 1$^{-1}$ culture filtrate. The compound was named as KIST 194. KIST 194 were identified as cholic acid (3$\alpha$, 7$\alpha$, 12$\alpha$-trihydroxy-5$\beta$-cholan 24-oic acid) based on its physico-chemical properties determined by UV, IR, $^{1}H-NMR, $^{13}$C-NMR, El-MS and LC-MS.

  • In order to find out an anticariogenic substance, antibacterial activities of some medical herbs and spices against Streptococcus mutans were investigated. The essential oils of oregano, thyme, sage, fennel, nutmeg, rosemary, calamus and cassia cortex were shown antibacterial effect against S. mutans. The essential oil of oregano among other tested medical herbs and spices showed the most active antimicrobial activity. The essential oil of oregano inhibited the activity of glucosyltransferase from S. mutans. The minimal inhibition concentration of oregano essential oil was determined as 0.05nl/ml. The activity of glucosyltransferase from S. mutans was inhibited in the presence of oregano essential oil.

  • In previous study, Gyrophora esculenta showed significant inhibitory effect on $\alpha$-glucosidases in vitro and blood glucose elevation in vivo. In the isolating process of active substance, orcinol was separated from Gyrophora esculenta. Orcinol is known to be toxic, therefore, in this study, it was analysed by the TLC densitometry method for quantitative determination from Gyrophora esculenta. The average amount of orcinol of Gyrophora esculenta was 0.2%. For the purpose of removing orcinol, the water extract of Gyrophora esculenta was sequentially fractionated by organic solvents, and the acute toxicity of each fraction was assessed in mice. Among them, the LD50 of butanol fraction was 1.19 g/kg(p.o.) and the weight increase of mice in that group was somewhat retarded.

  • Currently, the size of the electronic device is in the nano area. In order to control the movements of these nanoscale devices, one should be able to understand the physical phenomena in the nano area. Recently, due to carbon nanotubes and mechanical outstanding electrical conductivity and mechanical characteristics of the carbon nanotubes and Graphene behaves to apply. Efforts have been active. There are various tubes with a radius of a in a compact mass in the form of a Multi walled carbon nanotubes in different between the radius. Van der Waals force can move smoothly without friction with each other by the nanoscale motor turning, using the properties, making. This is the lightest solids per unit area on the thickness is electrical atomic layer one of the substance and the electrical conductivity, the best material and mechanical characteristics are very much. Many studies because great is the ideal nanoelectromechanical device of material is being considered. In this study, electrical resonator for a new structure proposed and the nature and methodology would like to come up.

  • This studies were carried out to purification and seperation of chitooligosaccharides which containing excellent biological active substance. After deacetylation of chitosan (DAC%), DAC-45%, DAC-70%, DAC-95% and DAC-99% were used substrates and hydrolyzed by chitosanase (Bacillus pumilus BN-262) DAC-99% has excellent hydrolyzate which contained several chitooligosaccharides. Therefore, chitosan was hydrolyzed DAC-90 as substrate by chitosanase, and then purified and seperated of chitooligosaccharides Gel filteration and HPLC. This oligosaccharides composed with GlcN0, GlcN2, GlcN3, Glc5 and GlcN6.

  • Effect of ginseng polysaccharide fraction was examined for $CCl_4$-induced hepatotoxicity in vitro and in vivo. In $CCl_4$-injured primary cultured rat hepatocytes, treatment of the polysaccharide fraction (0.1, 0.3, 1.0 mg/ml) significantly Inhibited the release of LDH and GOT into the culture medium in a dose-dependent manner. Oral administration of the polysaccharide fraction (100, 200 mg/kg) inhibited the decrease of body weight and the increase of the ratio of liver to body weight in $CCl_4$-intoxicated rats. Elevation of GOT, GPT and ALP activity in the serum by $CCl_4$-induced hepatotoxicity was suppressed by administration of ginseng polysaccharide fraction. MDA levels increased in the serum as well as in the liver tissue by treatment with $CCl_4$ showed a tendency to be 연w in the rats given to the polysaccharide fraction. These results suggest that the polysaccharide fraction may be active substance responsible for antihepatotoxic effect of Panax ginseng.

  • Fruits of Hovenia dulcis T. (Rhamnaceae) was called ‘jiguja’ in oriental medicine which has been used for diuresis, remove of hangover and leaves has been used for detoxified the alcohol. In order to investigate the efficacy of antioxidative activity from leaves of Hovenia dulcis, the activity guided fraction and isolation of physiologically active substance were performed. Its 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% MeOH, H2O, Acetone fractions were examined antioxidative activity by DPPH method and TBARS assay. (omitted)
