  • Active stereo vision system allows us to localize a target object by passing only the features of small disparities without heavy computation for identifying the target. This simple method, however, is not applicable to the situations where a distracting background is included or the target and other objects are located on the zero disparity area simultaneously To alleviate these problems, we combined filtering with foveation which employs high resolution in the center of the visual field and suppresses the periphery which is usually less interesting. We adopted an image pyramid or log-polar transformation for foveated imaging representation. We also extracted the stereo disparity of the target by using projection to keep the stereo disparity small during tracking. Our experiments show that log-polar transformation is superior to either an image pyramid or traditional method in separating a target from the distracting background and fairly enhances the tracking performance.

(Two active markers at fixed distance based single PSD motion capture system)등을 소개한 바 있다.

  • Debates concerning the competitive edge of leading 3DTV technology of the shutter glasses (SG) 3D and the film-type patterned retarder (FPR) are flaring up. Although SG technology enables Full-HD 3D vision, it requires complex systems including the sync transmitter (emitter), the sync processor chip, and the LCD lens in the active shutter glasses. In addition, the transferred sync-signal is easily affected by the external noise and a 3DTV viewer may feel flicker-effect caused by cross-talk of the left and right image. The operating current of the sync processor in the 3DTV active shutter glasses is gradually increasing to compensate the sync reconstruction error. The proposed chip is a low-power hardware sync processor based discrete-event SoC(system on a chip) designed specifically for the 3DTV active shutter glasses. This processor implements the newly designed power-saving techniques targeted for low-power operation in a noisy environment between 3DTV and the active shutter glasses. This design includes a hardware pre-processor based on a universal edge tracer and provides a perfect sync reconstruction based on a floating-point timer to advance the prior commercial 3DTV shutter glasses in terms of their power consumption. These two techniques enable an accurate sync reconstruction in the slow clock frequency of the synchronization timer and reduce the power consumption to less than about a maximum of 20% compared with other major commercial processors. This article describes the system's architecture and the details of the proposed techniques, also identifying the key concepts and functions.

  • In this paper, we propose a new integrated computer vision system designed to track multiple human beings and extract their silhouette with an active stereo camera. The proposed system consists of three modules: detection, tracking and silhouette extraction. Detection was performed by camera ego-motion compensation and disparity segmentation. For tracking, we present an efficient mean shift based tracking method in which the tracking objects are characterized as disparity weighted color histograms. The silhouette was obtained by two-step segmentation. A trimap is estimated in advance and then this was effectively incorporated into the graph cut framework for fine segmentation. The proposed system was evaluated with respect to ground truth data and it was shown to detect and track multiple people very well and also produce high quality silhouettes. The proposed system can assist in gesture and gait recognition in field of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI).

  • In this paper, we propose a low-cost and compact motion capture system which enables to play motion games in PS2(Play Station 2). Recently, motion capture systems which are being used as a part in film producing and making games are too expensive and enormous systems. Now days, motion games using common USB camera are slow and have two-dimension recognition. But PSD sensor has a few good points, such as fast and low-cost. In recently year, 3D motion capture systems using 2D PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) optic sensor for motion capturing have been developed. One is Multi-PSD motion capture system applying stereo vision and another is Single-PSD motion capture system applying optical theory ship. But there are some problems to apply them to motion games. The Multi-PSD is high-cost and complicated because of using two more PSD Camera. It is so difficult to make markers having omni-direction equal intensity in Single-PSD. In this research, we propose a new theory that solves aforementioned problems. It can measure 3D coordination if separated two marker's intensity is equal to. We made a system based on this theory and experimented for performance capability. As a result, we were able to develop a motion capture system which is a single, low-cost, fast, compact, wide-angle and an adaptable motion games. The developed system is expected to be useful in animation, movies and games.
