  • In this paper, we studied on the thermal design of the active antenna system for stable performance considering thermal reliability. The active antenna has high performance and heat flux elements in T/R modules. Thermal heating of elements in T/R modules has to be dissipated effectively and the antenna has to be operated over the range of suggested temperature by the thermal design. T/R modules of high heat flux in the active antenna can be dissipated effectively by liquid cooling. In this study, we studied on the thermal design including the liquid cooling system to optimize the thermal performance of the active antenna. And the thermal design was verified by numerical analysis.

  • This paper proposed modelling and design method in suspension system design to analyze active suspension equipment by adopting intelligent robust control theory. Recent in the field of suspension system design it is general to adopt active control scheme for stiffness and damping, and connection with other vehicle stability control equipment is also intricate, it is required for control system scheme to design more robust, higher response and precision control equipment. It is known that active suspension system is better than passive spring-damper system in designing suspension equipment. We analyze suspension system with considering location of front-rear wheel and driving velocity, then design robust control system. Numerical example is shown for validity of intelligent control system design in active suspension system.

To reduce human effort and improve design quality and productivity. Innovative Design Processor (IDP) is being developed. Two basic principles of IDP are the document-oriented desigll and the web-based design. The document-oriented design is that. if the designer writes a design document called active document and feeds it to a special program. the final document with complete analysis. table and plots is made automatically. The active documents can be written with Microsoft Word or created automatically on the web. which is another framework of IDP. Using the proper mix-up of server side and client side programming under the LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) environment. it e design process on the web is modeled as a design wizard style so that even a novice designer makes the design document easily. This automation using the IDP is now being implemented for all the reload design of Korea Standard Nuclear Power Plant (KSNP) type PWRs. The introduction of this process will allow large reduction in all reload design efforts of KSNP and provide a platform for design and R&D tasks of KNFC.

  • This paper presents design optimization of a new Active Twist Rotor (ATR) blade and conducts its aeroelastic analysis in forward flight condition. In order to improve a twist actuation performance, the present ATR blade utilizes a single crystal piezoelectric fiber composite actuator and the blade cross-sectional layout is designed through an optimization procedure. The single crystal piezoelectric fiber composite actuator has excellent piezoelectric strain performance when compared with the previous piezoelectric fiber composites such as Active Fiber Composites (AFC) and Macro Fiber Composites (MFC). Further design optimization gives a cross-sectional layout that maximizes the static twist actuation while satisfying various blade design requirements. After the design optimization is completed successfully, an aeroelastic analysis of the present ATR blade in forward flight is conducted to confirm the efficiency in reducing the vibratory loads at both fixed- and rotating-systems. Numerical simulation shows that the present ATR blade utilizing single crystal piezoelectric fiber composites may reduce the vibratory loads significantly even with much lower input-voltage when compared with that used in the previous ATR blade. However, for an application of the present single crystal piezoelectric actuator to a full scaled rotor blade, several issues exist. Difficulty of manufacturing in a large size and severe brittleness in its material characteristics will need to be examined.

  • Vibration isolation tables are mostly required in precise measurement and manufacturing system. Among the vibration isolation tables, an air spring is the most favorable equipment because of low resonant frequency and high damping ratio. However, it is difficult to design the air spring with the required stiffness and damping ratio. Futhermore, whenever conventional active control methods are applied to the air spring, it may be difficult to obtain effective control performance due to high nonlinearity of air spring. In this paper, the optimal design of the air spring is performed using genetic algorithm to bring out low resonant frequency and high damping ratio. Also, active control of the vibration isolation table with 3-DOF model is proposed using the adaptive control method. Through experiments, optimal design is shown to be effective. And performance of the proposed control method is verified to be better than those of the passive control method and the conventional active control methods.

  • Early decision support systems (DSS) were the "passive" decision support systems in the sense that the systems only able to do what the users explicitly direct them to do. But some researchers such as Raghav Rao et al. [51 showed architectures to suggest general idea of the innovative DSS systems which offer active form of decision support, say, "active Intelligent Decision Support Systems(active IDSS)". The system can perform not only what the users want to do but some voluntary (or involuntary) intelligent works. This paper presents the issues in the design of the active IDSS in the domain of investment evaluation, a domain area where few researchers have suggested frameworks or architectures to discriminate good investment from bad one. We propose a new paradigm, by utilizing historical investment results using neural network and Multivariate Discriminant Analysis(MDA), to identify goodness of investment. A new active IDSS architecture which consists of neural network, expert system and three components of the traditional passive DSS is suggested with some scenario based results.nario based results.

  • An active trailing-edge flap blade named as Seoul National University Flap (SNUF) blade is designed for reducing helicopter vibratory loads and the relevant aeroacoustic noise. Unlike the conventional rotor control, which is restricted to 1/rev frequency, an active control device like the present trailing-edge flap is capable of actuating each individual blade at higher harmonic frequencies i.e., higher harmonic control (HHC) of rotor. The proposed blade is a small scale blade and rotates at higher RPM. The flap actuation components are located inside the blade and additional structures are included for reinforcement. Initially, the blade cross-section design is determined. The aerodynamic loads are predicted using a comprehensive rotorcraft analysis code. The structural integrity of the active blade is verified using a stress-strain recovery analysis.

  • This paper presents a method for determining the optimum active-area width (OAW) of solar cells in a module architecture. The current density-voltage curve of a reference cell with a narrow active-area width is used to reproduce the current density profile in the test cell whose active area width is to be optimized. We obtained self-consistent current density and electric potential profiles from iterative calculations of both properties, considering the distributed resistance of the contact layers. Further, we determined the OAW that yields the maximum efficiency by calculating efficiency as a function of the active-area width. The proposed method can be applied to the design of the active area of a dye-sensitized solar cell in Z-type series connection modules for indoor and building-integrated photovoltaic systems. Our calculations predicted that OAW increases as the sheet resistances of the contact layers and the intensity of light decrease.

  • To automate nuclear design works which are time-consuming and man-power intensive, Innovative Design Processor ($IDP^{TM}$) is being developed. Two basic principles of IDP are the document-oriented design and the web-based design. The document-oriented design is that, if the designer writes a design document called active document and feeds it to a special program which has a robust parser, the finai document with complete analysis, table and plots is made automatically. The active documents can be written with ordinary HTML/XML editors or created automatically on the web, which is another framework of IDP. Using the proper mix-up of server side and client side programming under the LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) environment, the design process on the web is modeled as a design wizard style so that even a novice designer makes the design document easily.
