  • Results of an experiment on the general behavior of rats in order to explore the possible pharmacological actions of Panax Ginseng upon the central nervous system can be summarized as follows: 1) The rats treated with Ginseng-saponin intraperitoneally with the doses of 50 or 100 mg/kg show the decreased sleeping component and increase in lying and grooming component and walking and rearing component of general behavior. 2) There are no difference between control group and saline treated group in pattern of general behavior components. 3) In the Ginseng-saponin treated groups, the amphetamine stimulated walking and rearing component of genenarl behavior are reduced but lying and grooming component are elevated. 4) Ginseng-saponin shows very low acute toxicity in mice. The $LD_{50}$ in mice of 24 hours after intraperitoneal injection was 795 mg/kg. From the above findings, it is to suggest that the Ginseng saponin might stimulate the central nervous system but its mode of action appears to be different from that of amphetamine. And the effects of Ginseng saponin may be varied depending on various experimental situation or condition of animals.

  • It is known that structure of Human's brain information system is controlled by cerebral cortex mainly. Cerebral cortex is divided by sensory area, motor area and associated area largely. Sensory area takes part in information from environment and motor area is actuation by decision as associated area determined. It is possible to copy brain information system by input-output pattern. but there is difficulty in modeling of memorizing new information. Such action is performed by Limbic Lobe and Papez circuit which is controlled by intrinsic emotion. So we need of definition of emotion's role in decision. In this paper, we define roles of emotion in intrinsic decision using Dynamic Cognitive Maps(DCMs). The emotion is evaluated by outside information then intrinsic decision performed as how much emotion variated. The dynamic cognitive maps take part in emotion evaluating process.

  • This paper reports the application study of the ground reinforcement under a buried conduit subjected to differential settlement via a finite element modeling. The soil-reinforcement inter- action helps to minimize the differential settlement between the adjoining conduit segments. Three different field conditions have been considered. The settlement pattern and deformation slope have been evaluated for each boundary condition. The analysis results are compared for both non-reinforced and reinforced case to measure the effectiveness of the soil reinforcement for restraining deformation of the conduit.

  • Internal defects are mainly caused by a corrosive action and degradation in the pipe used in a nuclear power plant or factory. The ESPI method have the many advantages when compared with conventional method. The advantage are the area measurement ability at one time and non-contact measurement ability in the real-time. In this paper, we studied on the measurement of a internal defect by using out of plane ESPI technique. Here, we compared the experimental results using out of plane ESPI with the FEM results.

  • Space is comprised by the movements of human beings, and draws a complex locus within it. That form seems to be complex of movement around in all directions of space axis, and be ever-changing process as time goes by. Although Human are able to move uninhibitedly, the movements are restricted to a narrow sphere during locomotion. However, the pattern of these movements delineates a certain frame within the space, and provides not only visual effects but also relevance tomovement itself. Also, critically dividing and organizing this sphere is what is realized into this tangible indoor space. This study recognized importance of human being as a core of making indoor space and brought out experimental approach on relationship human with space, and visually perceptual standpoint. And this presented the recent possibility of action and attitude though sight and walking by arranging space on the basis of modern artists' perception of human body.

  • A new neuro-control scheme for active control of structures is proposed. It utilizes lattice pattern of state vector as training data of probabilistic neural network(PNN). Therefore. it is the so-called lattice probabilistic neural network(LPNN). PNN makes control forces by using all the training patterns. Therefore, it takes much time to obtain a control force in application. This inevitably may delay the control action. However. control force of LPNN is calculated by using only the adjacent information of LPNN input. So, the response of LPNN is greatly faster than PNN. The proposed control algorithm is applied for three story building under California and El Centro earthquakes. Also, control results of the LPNN are compared with those of the conventional PNN. The structural responses have been suppressed effectively by the proposed algorithm.

  • The developmental regulation of the preimplantation mammalian embryos is a fundamental step for preparing the implantation and it may be regulated by several autocrine and paracrine factors including platelet-activating factor. PAF improved the embryonic survival and implantation but its role during blastocyst development is still largely unknown. In this study, the effects and the possible pathway of PAF on developmental regulation of blastocyst to hatching stage were investigated. Developmental pattern in hatching embryo was a concentration-response curve showing maximal activity at 1 nM PAF, with decreasing activity at higher concentrations. $50{\mu}M$ 1-(5-isoquinolimnesulfonyl)-2-methylpiperazinme dihydrochloride (H-7), a PKC inhibitor, inhibited the progression of blastocyst to hatching embryo. In addition H-7 blocked the PAF effects on the blastocyst development. Besides tetradecanoylphorbol acetate (TPA), a PKC activator stimulated development of blastocyst to the hatching stage. These finding revealed that PAF support the blastocyst development to the hatching embryo. Also it is suggested that PAF action pathways in hatching supporting include the PKC signaling pathway.

  • In this paper, the method for navigation and obstacle avoidance of an autonomous mobile robot is proposed. It is based on the fuzzy inference system which enables to deal with imprecise and uncertain information, and on the neural network which enables to learn input and output pattern data obtained from ultrasonic sensors. For autonomous navigation, the wall-following navigation utilizing input and output data by an expert's control action is constructed. An approach by the neural network is developed for the obstacle avoidance because of the redundant input data. For an autonomous navigation, the fuzzy control and the control of the neural network are integrated and its feasibility is demonstrated by means of experiment.

  • The Non-homogeneous Poisson process is probably the most popular model since it can model systems that are deteriorating or improving. The renewal process is a model that is often used to describe the random occurrence of events in time. But both these models are based on too restrictive assumptions on the effect of the repair action. The Modulated Power Law Process is a suitable model for describing the failure pattern of repairable systems when both renewal-type behavior and time trend are present. In this paper we propose maximum likelihood estimation of the next failure time after the system has experienced some failures, that is, Mean Time Between Failure for the MPLP model.
