A Comprasion of the Activation of Mirror Neurons Induced by Action Observation between Simple and Complex Hand Movement

  • Purpose: We compared the activation pattern of the mirror neurons (MN) between two types of hand movement according to action observation using functional MRI. Methods: Twelve right-handed healthy subjects (5 male and 7 female, mean age $21.92{\pm}2.02years$) participated in the experiment. During fMRI scanning, subjects underwent two different stimuli on the screen: 1) video clips showing repeated grasping and releasing of the ball via simple hand movement (SHM), and (2) video clips showing an actor performing a Purdue Pegboard test via complex hand movement (CHM). paired t-test in statistical parametric mapping (SPM) was used to compare the activation differences between the two types of hand movement. Results: CHM as compared with the SHM produced a higher blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) signal response in the right superior frontal gyrus, left inferior and superior parietal lobules, and lingual gyrus. However, no greater BOLD signal response was found by SHM compared with CHM (FWE corrected, p<0.05). Conclusion: Our findings provided that the activation patterns for observation of SHM and CHM are different. CHM also elicited boarder or stronger activations in the brain, including inferior parietal lobule called the MN region.

  • This study is designed to extent the investigation of the Kyongbuk Womens policy the area of family life and womens economic activity. Results indicated that the primary barriers of getting a job for married women was child rearing and the diffency of working information. On the family life, communication patterns were contributed to the problem of the relationship between child and parent, and spouse relationship. And also, school violence was founded the hot problem. The results underscore the importance of child rearing support system, and affirmative action in womens employment enviroment, Family Life Educator and Family Counselor.

Dynamic Representations of Parabolas in a Microworld (포물선의 동적 표현과 마이크로월드)

  • In this paper, we discuss two representations of a curve. One is a static representation as set of points, the other is a dynamic representation using time parameter. And we suggest needs of designing a computer microword where we can represent a curve both statically and dynamically. We also emphasize the importance of translation activity from a static representation to a dynamic representation. For this purpose, we first consider constructionism and 'computers and mathematics education' as a theoretical backgrounds. We focus the curve of a parabola in this paper since this is common in mathematics curriculum and is related to realistic situation such as throwing ball. And we survey the mathematics curriculum about parabola representation. And we introduce JavaMAL microworld that is integrated microworld between LOGO and DGS. In this microworld, we represent a parabola using a dynamic action, and connect this dynamic parabola action to recursive patterns. Finally, we remake a parabola for a realistic situation using this dynamic representation. And we discuss the educational meaning of dynamic representation and its computer microworld.

Effect of Oxygen on the Antidotal Action of Thiosulfate in Cyanide Poisoning (시안화물중독(化物中毒)에 있어서 Thiosulfate 해독효과에 미치는 산소(酸素)의 영향(影響))

  • Cyanide poisoning is expected to be antagonized by the administration of oxygen, when it is administered in combination with the conventional cyanide antidote, sodium thiosulfate. However, the antidotal efficacy and its exact mechanism of oxygen in cyanide poisoning is still a controversial one. To test the effect of oxygen on the antidotal action of thiosulfate in cyanide poisoning, author designed this study on the dose-mortality patterns for potassium cyanide in mice. Potency ratios derived from $LD_{50}$ values were compared in groups of mice treated with sodium thiosulfate alone and sodium thiosulfate with oxygen. These results indicated that oxygen enhances the antidotal effect of sodium thiosulfate, effectively. This fact demonstrates that oxygen is of importance in the treatment of cyanide poisoning.

  • Calcium promoted ethylene production from mungbean hypocotyl segments incubated in the presence of either auxin or cytokinin (kinetin). Time course studies indicated that the calcium effect on ethylene production had a longer latent period (about 6 h) in combination with kinetin than with auxin. Studies on the effects of agents that are known to interfere with either action or transport (uptake) of calcium on ethylene biosynthesis indicated different patterns between auxin- and kinetin-treated tissues. Auxin-induced ethylene production was inhibited by the calmodulin inhibitor, trifluoperazine (TFP), and this inhibition was overcome by high concentrations of calcium applied, but TFP had no significant effect on kinetin-induced ethylene production regardless of calcium in the medium. The calcium channel blocker, verapamil, inhibited auxin-induced, but had little effect on kinetin-induced, ethylene producton. In vivo activity of "ethylene forming enzyme (EFE)" was found to be substantially promoted by calcium treatment. The enzyme activity was further increased by kinetin when segments were simultaneously treated with calcium, but auxin did not have such an effect.an effect.

  • So many patterns of the clothing give the specific indication for one's clothing behavior and present the common style for the society. Human being gives the one's free expression and attempts to change the existing cultural environment by the clothing even though human being would be restricted in choosing the clothing within the category of the society & the culture. The value of human being which attempts to escape the restriction through the behavior theory of T. Parsons is analysed and studied. The role of the modern society is being transformed and human being attempts to express one's self through the clothing very strongly. The clothing behavior means the expression of oneself for others. This phenomenon comes from the changing of human being's view of value through the social & cultural environment which give human being the freedom of the individual to choose the various clothing.

The Strut-and-Tie Models for Shear Dominant R/C Members considering Plastic Deformations (소성 변형을 고려한 전단 지배 부재의 스트럿-타이 모델)

  • This paper presents a deformable strut-and-tie model of determining the shear strengths and ultimate deformations of the shear-dominant reinforced concrete members. The proposed model originates from the strut-and-tie model concept and satisfies equilibrium, compatibility, constitutive laws, and the geometric conditions of shear deformation. This study attempts to apply deformation patterns to strut-and-tie models. The yielding of flexural reinforcements determines yielding states and the ultimate states of reinforced concrete coupling beam are defined as the ultimate compressive strain of struts and the degradation of compressive strength due to principal tensile strain of struts. The validity and accuracy of the proposed model is then tested against available experimental data. The parameters reviewed include the ratios of truss action and arch action, the reinforcement ratios, and the shear span-depth ratio. It is expected that this model can be applied to displacement-based design methods.

Implementation of Intelligent Characters adapting to Action Patterns of Opponent Characters (상대캐릭터의 행동패턴에 적응하는 지능캐릭터의 구현)

  • This paper proposes an implementation method of intelligent characters that can properly adapt to action patterns of opponent characters in fighting games by using genetic algorithm. For this intelligent characters, past actions patterns of opponent characters should be included in the learning process. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, two types of experiments are performed and their results are compared. In first experiment(exp-1), intelligent characters consider current action and its step of an opponent character. In second experiment (exp-2), on the other hands, they take past actions of an opponent characters into account additionally. As a performance index, the ratio of score obtained by an intelligent character to that of an opponent character is adopted. Experimental results shows that even if the performance index of exp-1 is better than that of exp-2 at the beginning of stages, but the performance index of exp-2 outperforms that of exp-1 as stages go on. Moreover, optimum solutions are always found in all experimental cases in exp-2. Futhermore, intelligent characters in exp-2 could learn moving actions (forward and backward) and waiting actions for getting more scores through self evolution.

The Effect of Heat on the Spiking Patterns of the Cells in Aplysia (군소 세포의 발화 형태에 미치는 열자극 효과)

  • Fruitful findings have been produced from five out of sixty cells which were obtained from each 63 individual Aplisia caught at the Jeju coast. Spiking patterns of three out of five cells, such as relaxation oscillator, bursting within a short time of the inter-burst interval, chaotic bursting, period doubling sequences, bursting with long trains of action potentials separated by short silent periods, regular repeated beating or elliptic bursting, and silent states had been changed in order as the temperature was lowered to $10^{\circ}C\;from\;32^{\circ}C$. In the intervals of every about 40 minutes repeated ups and downs of temperature produced similar firing patterns at the allowable temperature ranges. The other two cells showed difference from these. The amplitudes of the action potentials of the two cells will not be highly decreased in 24 hours. Average spike frequencies, the inter-burst interval, peak to peak spike amplitude of action potentials, minimum potential values are compared and analyzed by using the computer programme. The spike frequencies according to temperature show the distribution of bell type, with maximal spike frequencies at intermediate temperatures and minimal ones at either end. The most common pattern consist of high spike frequency during failing and low one during rising temperatures.
