  • Backgrounds & Objectives : Prolonged hearing loss was considered as one of the factors which have the potential to cause vocal changes. However, the analysis of quality of phonation in hearing loss patients has not been achieved enough. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the difference in objective acoustic parameters between long-term hearing impaired patients and normal control group. Material & Methods : The material of this investigation comprised a group of 20 patients (M : F=10 : 10) with moderate or profound hearing loss(over 50dB). The duration of all hearing loss was over 1 year. All of them underwent the acoustic examinations comprising electroglottography, multidimensional voice program and formant analysis during phonation of the bowels /a/ with free confortable tone and /i/ with voluntary high tone. The results of the acoustic examinations were compared with those of a control group, composed of 20 sex- and age-matched normal hearing subjects. Results : In the male hearing loss subjects, the significant increase was detected in pitch and shimmer during phonation of /a/ and in pitch during phonation of /i/. In addition, this group was characterized by decreased fundamental frequency during phonation of /i/. In female, there was no difference between hearing loss group and normal control group except a decreased formant 1 frequency. Conclusion : Long-term moderate and profound sensorineural hearing loss could affect the objective voice parameters.

  • It is important for identification of noise and vibration problem of tire to consider influence of interaction between road and tire. A quantification of road noise is a challenging issue in vehicle NVH due to extremely complicated transfer paths of road noise as well as the difficulty in an experimental identification of input force from tire-road interaction. A noise caused by tire is divided into road noise(structure-borne noise) and pattern noise(air-borne noise). Pattern noise is caused by pattern shape of tire, which has larger than 500 Hz, but road noise is generated by the interactions between a tire and a vehicle body. In this paper, we define the quantitative analysis for road noise caused by interactions between tire and road parameters. For the identification of road noise, the chassis dynamometer that is equipped $10mm{\times}10mm $ square cleat in the semi-anechoic chamber is used, and the tire spindle forces are measured by load cell. The vibro-acoustic transfer function between ear position and wheel center was measured by the vibro-acoustic reciprocity method. In this study three tires with different type of mechanical are used for the experiment work.

  • The 2 GHz film bulk acoustic wave resonator(FBAR), one of the most necessary device of the next generation mobile communication system, consisted of solidly mounted resonator(SMR) structure using Brags reflector, was researched in this paper The FBAR applied SiO$_{2}$ and W had large difference of the acoustic impedance to reflector Al to electrode and ZnO to piezoelectric layer. Specially, the FBAR applied the two-step deposition method to improve the c-axis orientation and increase reproducibility of the fabrication device had good performance. The electrical properties of plasma such as impedance, resistance, reactance, $V_{pp},\;I{pp}$, VSWR and phase difference of voltage and current, was analyzed and measured by RF sensor with the variable experiment process factors such as gas ratio, RF power and base vacuum level about concerning the thickness, c-axis orientation, adhesion and roughness. The FBAR device about the optimum condition resulted reflection loss(S$_{11}$) of -17 dB, resonance frequency of 1.93 GHz, electric-mechanical coefficient(k$_{eff}$) of 2.38 $\%$ and Qualify factor of 580. It was seen better qualify than the common dielectric filter at present and expected on business to the filter device of 2 GHz bandwidth with the MMIC technology.

  • In this study, performance, flow characteristics and noise of a cross-flow-fan system, used in indoor unit of the split-type air conditioner, were predicted by computational simulation. Triangular elements were used to mesh the calculation domain and quadrilateral elements were attached to the blade surfaces and walls to enhance the simulation quality. The unsteady incompressible Wavier-Stokes equations were solved using a sliding mesh technique on the interface between rotating fan region and the outside. Two stripes of velocity stream inside the cross-flow-fan were shown - the one was due to the eccentric vortex and the other was due to the normal entrance flow. As the flow rate increased, the center of the eccentric vortex moved toward the inner blade tip and rear-guide, and the exiting flow still had velocity variation along the stabilizer, which can increase the noise level. The acoustic pressure was calculated by using Lowson's equation. From the calculated acoustic pressure, it was found that the trailing edge is a dominant of acoustic generation.

  • The purpose of this study is to materialize the viscosity sensor by using the SH-SAW sensor of which the center frequency is operated at higher than 50 MHz. In order to measure the viscosity, SAW sensor of which the center frequency is operated at 100 MHz is developed. By using the developed sensor, phase shift, delay time, insertion loss, and frequency variation are measured at different viscosity. The result shows that the phase shift difference between the viscosity variations is such that the difference between the distilled water and the 100 % glycerol solution is approximately $45^{\circ}$, the change of the insertion loss is approximately 9 dB, and the difference of frequency variation is approximately 5.9 MHz. Therefore, it is shown that viscosity of unknown solution can be measured with the surface acoustic wave sensor.

  • We have developed an acoustic resonance inspection system to inspect the welding defects in the mechanical parts fabricated using friction stir welding method. The inspection system was consisted of a DAQ board, a microphone sensor, an impact hammer, and controlled by a PC software. The system was developed to collect and analyze the sound signal generated by hitting the sample with an impact hammer to determine whether it is defective. In this study, 100% welded good samples were compared with 95%, 90%, and 85% welded samples, respectively. The variation of the completeness in welding did not affect the visual appearance in the samples. As a result of analyzing the natural frequencies of the good samples, the five natural frequency peaks were identified. In the case of the defective samples, the frequency change was observed. The welding failure detection time was fast enough to be only 0.7 seconds. Employing our welding defect inspection system to the actual industrial field will maximize the efficiency of quality inspection and thus improve the productivity.

  • The present paper describes an experimental work to investigate a transonic resonance in supersonic jet that is discharged from a convergent-divergent nozzle. When the nozzle m: at low nozzle pressure ratios, the shock occurs within the divergent section of the nozzle. The transonic resonance of a jet flow is generated by an emission of strong acoustic tones due to the unsteadiness of the shock. A Schlieren optical system is used to visualize the supersonic jet flow In order to specify the flow resonance of a jet, acoustic measurements are performed to obtain noise spectra. The acoustic characteristics of transonic resonace are compared with those of screech tones. The results obtained show that unlike screech frequency, the transonic reso- nace frequency somewhat increases with increasing the nozzle pressure ratio.

  • During the past decades, the application of acoustic emission techniques (AET) through the diagnosis and monitoring of the fracture process in materials has been attracting considerable attention. AET proved to be operative among the other non-destructive testing methods for various reasons including their practicality and cost-effectiveness. Concrete and rock structures often demand thorough and real-time assessment to predict and prevent their damage nucleation and evolution. This paper presents an overview of the work carried out on the use of AE as a monitoring technique to form a comprehensive insight into its potential application in brittle materials. Reported properties in this study are crack growth behavior, localization, damage evolution, dynamic character and structures monitoring. This literature review provides practicing engineers and researchers with the main AE procedures to follow when examining the possibility of failure in civil/resource structures that rely on brittle materials.

  • Recently, digital signage is various changes and converging media. It is common to exhibit and guide focusing on information transfer by using the display. Such a method can not express variously changing digital signage. Therefore, we have to find a way to solve the problem of place and structure. In this paper, we experimented the new direction technique. Finally, we are going to propose acoustic direction technique using a microphone to maximize digital signage and intention of delivery by adding an sound reinforcement method to the visual representation.
