  • In this paper, acoustic transmission characteristics are theoretically considered on a cylindrical cavity system. The cylindrical cavity system is a simplified model of the acoustic cavity of King Seongdeok Divine Bell and it consists of a main cavity, a gap and an auxiliary cavity, Under a point sound source in the main cavity, acoustic frequency response property is determined and acoustic modes are analysed. The results are compared with those by the boundary element analysis using SYSNOISE. Using the proposed theoretical method, the effect of the auxiliary cavity and the gap on the resonance frequency and sound transmission characteristics is identified. Finally the best combination of the auxiliary cavity and gap is determined for the maximum transmission of the source frequency.

  • In the current study, in order to understand the dynamic response characteristics of the system according to the external acoustic forcing, a numerical approach was developed by adding an sign-sweep forcing function to the existing network model. Through this model, the sensitivity of frequency and pressure amplitude changes according to system parameters such as the physical dimensions and boundary conditions of the target combustor was analyzed in a wide frequency range. Analysis results of dynamic response characteristics of the target combustor are shown that the frequency regime with high dynamic pressure response was similar to the instability frequency range measured in the same combustor, and in particular, the response of the system depends greatly on the location of the acoustic forcing source term.

  • We studied the characteristics of impedance and electromechanical coupling coefficient in ZnO and AIN thin films by using resonance frequency spectrum method. The response peak of impedance decreased with the decrease of thickness of piezoelectrics, the number of mode of response peak decreased with the decrease of substrate thickness. An error of Kt² estimated from input Kt² increased as the thickness of piezoelectrics decreased and the thickness of substrate increased. Also, the error was increased in case of a large acoustic impedance of substrate. It was found that the composite resonator operating in optimized condition could be designed through the resonance frequency spectrum analysis of composited resonator consisted of piezoelectric thin film and substrate.

  • Acoustic response control of a corner-pinned plate using piezoelectric wafers was studied, both theoretically and experimentally Three different sizes of aluminum alloy plates were used and available ball joints were employed to hold the plate at the four corners. The plate with the largest aspect ratio showed the largest and most clear responses to the acoustic excitation in the range of frequencies (0∼200 Hz), and sound pressure levels (80∼100 dB) as predicted. The reduction of the acoustic response of the plate by piezoelectric actuator was very significant, more than expected, but abatement of the sound transmission through the plate was only slightly altered by the piezoelectric actuator. This work is an original work extending earlier work with doors excited by acoustic fields. The important difference is the used of ball joints to simulate the joints.

  • It is well known that the acoustic cavity inside the tire-wheel assembly contributes to vehicle interior noise. In this paper, we have performed acoustic and structural modal testings to investigate the influences of the acoustic cavity resonance on structural vibration characteristics for the tire in free-suspension and for the loaded tire. The testings have given us some findings, which are reported in this paper.

  • In hands-free full-duplex communication systems, acoustic signals picked up by the microphones can be mixed with echo signals as well as noises, which may result in poor performance of the corresponding communication system. Also, the system performance may decrease further if the reverberation occurs since it is harder to estimate the impulse response of the demixing system. For blind source separation (BSS) in such cases, a time-frequency masking approach can be employed to separate undesired echo signals and noises, but, permutation ambiguities also should be solved for the echo cancellation. In this paper, we propose a new acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) approach utilizing the time-frequency masking and higher-order statistics, whereby a desired signal selection, based on coherence and third-order statistics (i.e., kurtosis), is introduced along with output signal normalization. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach yields better echo and noise cancellation performances than the conventional AEC approaches.

  • This paper describes an implementation of a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) controlled random carrier frequency modulation for the PWM inverter for acoustic noise reduction of induction motors. Real-time generation of the random variable and RPWM(Random PWM) along with the speed control was achieved by DSP TMS320C31. The experimental results show that the voltage and current harmonics are spread to a wide band area and the power spectrum of the acoustic switching noise was spread to create a more appealing, less annoying sound. Also, the speed response of the implemented method and the conventional method is nearly similar to each other from the viewpoint of the v/f constant control.

  • A flexible structure submerged in acoustic fluid is affected by its surrounding fluid. In transient response of a submerged structure, the coupled effect between structures and surrounding fluid emerges as damping and added mass at early and late time, respectively. Therefore, the characteristics of submerged structure such as natural frequencies and damping coefficients are changed by its surrounding fluid. In this paper, the analytic modal equation of a spherical shell surrounded by water and air is dealt with. Through the example, the damping coefficients and natural frequencies of flexible structures are studied for various external acoustic fluid and structures.

  • The vibration modes of resilient mounting system and foundation structure which support diesel engine/generator set and acoustic enclosure walls play an important role in the vibration transmission process. So, it is necessary to perform vibration mode analysis of resilient mounting system and foundation structure. For some reasons, if the vibration modal analysis of resilient mounting system and foundation structure of acoustic enclosure could be simultaneously done by finite element method, it would be very efficient approach. In this paper, vibration modal analysis method using finite element method for multi stage mounting system having n d.o.f model was proposed. Vibration analysis of single and double stage resilient mounting system was performed to verify the validity of the proposed method. Also frequency response results were compared in case of rigid foundation model and finite element foundation model which was compared with experimental modal analysis results.

  • The present article evaluates a performance hall, which improves sound efficiency. In general, the sidewall of the music hall is plane circle. thus there happens a focus phenomenon. To overcome it. the music hall improves its sound efficiency by making its sidewall irregular. After measuring impulse response from the performance hall, evaluation indices on the temporal distribution of sound energy such as RT, EDT, D50, C80, RASTI and BR were obtained, and based on them, indoor acoustic characteristics and the generation of echoes were determined. According to the results, evaluation indices showed that the acoustic condition was satisfactory in general. This study is to provide fundamental data for acoustic design of music hall with round form by analyzing the room acoustic characteristics of music hall.
