  • High intensity vibro-acoustic testing is the appropriate method for flight qualification testing of space flight vehicle which must ensure the acoustic environment of launch. Growing demand for satellites and launch vehicles in korea has resulted in a recent increase in the demand for high intensity vibro-acoustic test facility. The test facility is designed to provide an acoustic environment of 152 ㏈( re 20 ${\mu}$Pa) overall sound pressure level over the band width of 30 Hz to 10,000 Hz in the reverberant chamber. The reverberant chamber has a volume of 1,000 ㎥ with interior dimensions of 8.7m${\times}$l0m${\times}$12m, which can accommodate not only satellites but also launch vehicle payload fairing. Korea Aerospace Research Institute and Korean industries have been carrying out the development of the reverberant chamber and auxiliary devices, such as automatic control system, monitoring/safety device, and jet nozzle, etc. This paper presents the detailed description of High Intensity Acoustic Chamber of KARI, which will be the first and unique testing facility in Korea.

  • The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) is considered an ideal eukaryotic model and has long been recognized for its pivotal role in numerous industrial production processes. Depending on the cell cycle phases, microenvironment, and species, S. cerevisiae varies in shape and has different sizes of each shape such as singlets, doublets, and clusters. Obtaining high-purity populations of uniformly shaped S. cerevisiae cells is crucial in fundamental biological research and industrial operations. In this study, we propose an acoustofluidic method for separating S. cerevisiae cells based on their size using surface acoustic wave (SAW)-induced acoustic radiation force (ARF). The SAW-induced ARF increased with cell diameter, which enabled a successful size-based separation of S. cerevisiae cells using an acoustofluidics device. We anticipate that the proposed acoustofluidics approach for yeast cell separation will provide new opportunities in industrial applications.

ZnO 박막의 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터 증착 중 미리 가열된 기판의 자연냉각 효과 (The Natural Cooling Effects of Pre-heated Substrate during RF Magnetron Sputter Deposition of ZnO)

  • Crystalline and micro-structural characteristics of ZnO thin films which were deposited on p-Si(100) with cooling naturally down of pre-heated substrate during RF magnetron sputter deposition, were investigated by XRD and SEM in this paper. The film which was prepared on the substrate which was pre-heated to $400^{\circ}C$ before deposition and then cooled naturally down during deposition, showed the most outstanding c-axis preferred orientation. The ZnO thin film having the best crystalline result were applied to SMR type FBAR device and resonance properties of the device were investigated by network analyzer. It showed that resonance frequency was 2.05 GHz, return loss was -30.64 dB, quality factor was 3169 and electromechanical coupling factor was 0.4 %. This deposition method would be very useful for application of surface acoustic wave filter or film bulk acoustic wave resonator.

  • This study uses ZnO thin film as a piezoelectric material and Pt as bottom electrode for FBAR (film bulk acoustic resonator) device. ZnO thin film and Pt were deposited by RF-magnetron sputtering method. ZnO thin film and Pt were oriented to c-axis. Top electrode Al was deposited by thermal evaporation. The membrane was formed of bulk micromachining. The FBAR was evaluated by XRD, SEM and electrical characterization. The resonant frequency was measured by HP 8753C Network Analyzer. A fabricated FBAR device exhibited a resonant frequency of 700 MHz ~ 1.5 GHz. When bottom electrode and top electrode thickness were fixed, the resonant frequency was increased as decreasing ZnO thin film thickness.

An application of neural network analysis in diagnosis of mechanical failure of a total artificial heart

  • A neural network based upon the back propagation algorithm was designed and applied to acoustic power spectra of electrohydraulic total artificial hearts in order to diagnose mechanical failure of devices. The trained network distinguished spectra of the mechanically damaged device from those of the undamaged device with overall success rate of 63%. Moreover, the network correctly classified more than 70% of spectra in the frequency bands of 0-100 Hz and 700-950 Hz. Consequently, the neural network analysis was useful for the diagnosis of mechanical failure of a total artificial heart.

  • SAW device is widely used as band pass filters, chemical or physical sensors, and actuators. In this paper, we propose the capacitive gap measurement system with high precision using SAW device. The research process is mainly composed of theoretical and experimental part. In the theoretical part, equivalent circuit model was used to predict the SAW response by the change of load impedance. In the experimental part, commercialized capacitor was used to see the SAW response by the change of load capacitance to check the feasibility as a sensor unit. After that, experimental setup to measure and adjust the gap was made and the SAW response by the change of gap which caused the capacitance change was measured. Finally, resolution and stroke was decided compared with the signal change and basic measurement noise level.

  • 본 논문에서는 2GHz 대역 RF 대역통과 필터 응용을 위한 FBAR 소자에 대한 연구를 발표한다. 본 연구의 FBAR 소자는 크게 상부 및 하부 전극 사이에 압전체(AlN)가 삽입되어 있는 공진부와 SiO2/W이 여러층으로 적층되어 있는 음향반사층 두 부분으로 구성되어 있다. RF sputtering 방법으로 증착된 AlN 박막은 c축이 기판에 수직한 정도가 우수한 c축 우선 배향성을 갖는다. 이때 결정립(grain)은 길고 얇은 주상형(columnar)을 보인다. 뿐만아니라, 우수한 품질계수(4300)와 반사손실(37.19 dB)도 얻어졌다.

진행파의 코리올리효과를 이용한 자가발진형 표면탄성파 초소형 자이로스코프 (A Self-Oscillation Type SAW Microgyroscope Based on the Coriolis Effect of Progressive Waves)

  • An 80MHz surface acoustic wave (SAW)-based gyroscope utilizing a progressive wave was developed on a piezoelectric substrate. The developed sensor consists of two SAW oscillators in which one is used for sensing element and has metallic dots in the cavity between input and output IDTs. The other is used for a reference element. Coupling of mode (COM) modeling was conducted to determine the optimal device parameters prior to fabrication. According to the simulation results, the device was fabricated and then measured on a rate table. When the device was subjected to an angular rotation, oscillation frequency differences between the two oscillators were observed because of the Coriolis force acting on the metallic dots. Depending on the angular rate, the difference of the oscillation frequency was modulated. The obtained sensitivity was approximately 52.35 Hz/deg.s within the angular rate range of 0~1000 deg/s. The performances of devices with three IDT structures for two kinds of piezoelectric substrates were characterized. Good thermal stability was also observed during the evaluation process.

ITE 타입의 소음 차폐기용 소형 음향 필터의 설계 (Design of Small Acoustic Filter for ITE Type Noise Protector)

  • The prevention of noise induced hearing loss is very important, because there is no treatment for it. There are some kinds of devices for hearing protection, and those are effective in preventing a noise induced hearing loss. However, people often resist the use of hearing protection devices because it is difficult to have a conversation. Therefore, a hearing protection device is must effective not only in hearing protection but also in preserving communication ability. In this paper, we proposed a small acoustic filter for ITE type noise protector to solving the problem about the difficulties of conversation. That is applied a principle of acoustic filters that have been used for a muffler of automobiles, guns, and etc. To find out the sound transmission characteristic at the eardrum, we regarded an acoustic filter and external ear canal as a coupled system. So, we simulated the coupled system with OrCad, and experimented with a designed acoustic filter and a 2 cc coupler which has the same transmission characteristic as the external ear canal has. We confirmed that it is possible to adjustment acoustic transmission characteristics through simulation of electrical model for acoustic filter and external ear and experiments using designed small acoustic filters.

AVRCP 기반의 블루투스 핸즈프리를 위한 음향반향제거기 설계 (Design Adaptive Acoustic Echo Canceller for AVRCP Bluetooth Hands Free)

  • 근래에 들어 많은 A/V 제품들이 AVRCP의 프로파일을 적용하여 모바일 환경에 맞게 기술이 적용되고 있다. AVRCP는 고품질의 A/V 제품들을 제어하기 위한 표준인터페이스를 제공한다. 이러한 AVRCP는 A2DP와 VDP 기술과 함께 모든 A/V장비들을 손쉽게 사용할 수 있기 때문에 특히 모바일 디바이스에서 콘트롤러와 타켓을 블루투스와 함께 적용해서 활용될 수 있다. 모바일 환경에서 블루투스 기술은 이동성은 물론 소형화와 복합화를 가능케 한다. 이런 블루투스를 적용할 경우 기존의 적외선방식의 리모콘에서 수행했던 것처럼, 콘트롤러를 통해 사용자가 원하는 기능을 A/V 장비에게 손쉽게 전달할 수 있다. 이런 원격 콘트롤러는 이런 AVRCP 프로토콜을 활용해서 A/V를 제어할 수 있도록 설계되어있다. 이런 AVRCP 표준을 적용한 핸즈프리같은 제품에 일반적으로 제기되고 있는 음향반향의 문제를 제거할 수 있도록 개선된 DSP를 설계하였다.
