The assessment of an urban site depends on the way it responds to multiple needs such as functionality, aesthetic and complex comfort of acoustic, thermal, lighting and air quality This study aims to investigate the assessment of various urban soundscapes in the sense of acoustic amenity by the questionnaires. As a result, acoustic amenity assessment was influenced by the non-acoustic factors such as environment assessment of visual, thermal, air quality etc.. And it was shown that the subjects tend to perceive the noise level less than 3$\sim$10dB L$_{Aeq}$ under the similar noise exposure level according to the urban landscapes.

As a result, acoustic amenity assessment was influenced by the non-acoustic factors such as environment assessment of visual, thermal, air quality etc. In the sense of sound quality, urban environmental sound was interpreted as 3 factors of strength, evolution of time, spacial localization. So these factors would be considered in the new assessment method for acoustic amenity. And it was shown that the subjects tend to perceive the noise level less than $3{\sim}5dB\;L_{eqA}$ according to the urban landscapes under the similar noise exposure level.

Virtual Acoustic Field Simulation System (VFASS) has been developed through soundscape technique research for making comfortable acoustic environment in urban public places. This system could suggest Introducing sounds which are suitable for certain area, Also this system gives certain area vitalities and amenity through with the correspondence to time, temperature, humidity, wind velocity and sunshine of the area. In this paper, Application possibility of VFASS is examined how can be adapted to D University square as a case study.

It is said that the goal of the design of good acoustical environment is at first the reduction of undesirable sounds. and in addition the introduction of desirable sounds by which our minds are soothed. The task of creating the desirable sounds leads to the realization of a comfortable acoustic environment and the design of soundscape. It may be an important starting point of soundscape design to select suitable sounds for the target spaces. because each space has a different surrounding condition and requires a special ambient sound. This paper aims to survey preference of the environmental sounds suitable for the public spaces in urban areas such as parks. bus terminals. 35 kinds of natural sounds are. rated by 26 pairs of adjectives. The results of psycho-acoustic experiments are as follows. 1. The proper adjectives for expressing the environmental sounds are classified into 6 groups of comfort, pleasure, fullness. variety, distinctness. and naturalness. 2. Bird singing. murmuring of a stream, artificial sounds. singing of insects and animals are the affirmative rank of preference. 3. Green musics consisted of music and natural sounds are preferred to the pure natural sounds. 4. Sound level relative to background noise causes various preferences to natural sounds in public spaces.

The method of promoing sound surroundings with the new concept named 'Soundscape' attracts the public attention. This new method is the way of active promoting acoustic surroundings to offer the vitality, comfort and identity of urban space and relative quietness by masking the noise with natural and signal sounds. Therefore, this research has the purpose of finding out the method of soundscape concept of urban public space for the comfort acoustic surroundings.

본 연구의 목적은 소음진동규제법을 비롯한 각종 소음진동관련 규정의 목적이나 정책의 목표에 기술된 '정온'의 의미를 명확히 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 사운드스케이프 사상에서 나타난 소음의 개념과 쾌적성을 고찰하고, 관련 연구자의 '정온'에 대한 정의를 검토하였다. 그 결과 '정온'은 조용함으로서 양호한 음환경 조성의 기본 요건이지만, 그것만이 절대적 의미의 정온이 아니며 high acoustic quality의 관점에서 사람들이 선호하는 소리가 포함되고 원하지 않은 소리를 마스킹할 수 있는 유쾌한 환경까지를 포함한 상대적 의미가 되어야 함을 알 수 있었다.

Today, interest in soundscape idea is growing according to recognize the surrounding sounds as design target and to introduce them into environmental spaces positively. The word "soundscape" proposed by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer is now very popular in the world. So various soundscape designs based on soundscape idea are carried on worldwide for acoustic ecology. Also in Korea, several researchers are carrying on studies about the soundscape, but basic concepts behind soundscape design are insufficiently defined and studied. In that sense, this study aims to review and to arrange the concept of soundscape Idea and soundscape desgn systematically. Through investigation of literature concerning soundscape study, the backgrounds and characteristics about soundscape idea were reviewed and concepts of soundscape design were arranged.

For the comfortable housing life, comfortable and pleasant urban environment should be created for the people living in house and in city. There are lots of environmental conditions in city affecting house and life. Also most of all the noise pollution have been become major factor that makes people's life uncomfortable. Recently soundscape researches have been performed to create comfortable urban environment and various studies on the evaluation of urban environmental sounds are now undergoing. This study aimed to analyse the subjective characteristics through the subjective evaluation to the sounds measured with physical parameters and eventually to find out alternative evaluation method for urban environmental sounds. Adjectives applied to previous studies were used for the subjective evaluation and sound sources recorded in specific places were presented with picture at the same time. As a result, new physical parameters such as Lmax, Unbiased Annoyance, G, N and EmT have a feasibility to evaluation of urban environment sounds in terms of acoustic comfort.
