The effects of oleic acid, propylene glycol and 5% (w/w) oleic acid in propylene glycol on the electrical properties of hairless mouse skin were studied and the results were compared. The complex electrical impedance was measured as a function of frequency, and resistance and capacitance were determined from the Nyquist plot. Immediately after the treatment with oleic acid, resistance was 145% of the pretreatment value. However it decreased with time and, after 20 hours, it was about 25% of its pretreatment value. Capacitance increased; immediately after the treatment, it was about 125% of pretreatment value and it seemed to increase slowly with time. When the skin was treated with propylene glycol, resistance decreased about 5O% and capacitance increased about 65%. Similar results were observed when the skin was treated with 5% (w/w) oleic acid in propylene glycol, except that the magnitude of resistance drop was much larger. Oleic acid acted synergistically with propylene glycol. Together with the flux data in the literature, the results obtained in this work indicate that electrical resistance is closely related to the permeability of drug molecules through the skin. The results are discussed in terms of the mechanism of action of these penetration enhancers. Overall, this work provided further mechanistic insight into the role of SC lipids in skin resistance and capacitance.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the shelf life of fresh pork by spraying 2%(v/vf) acetic acid solution. Both treated with acetic acid and untreated pork were stored at $4^{\circ}C$. The spray of acetic acid solution was effective on growth inhibiton of aerobic and coliform bacteria. The pH, volatile basic nitrogen contents, and thiobarbituric acid value of fresh pork treated with acetic acid were lower than untreated pork during storage. Meat color was more darkened immediately after acetic acid treatment, but untreated pork was more darkened after 2 days storage.
The objective of this paper is to compare the variation of surface properties by hydrochloric acid pre-treatment and of metallic potassium and their salts loading effect for activated carbon after surfaces transformation by acid. From the results of nitrogen adsorption, each isotherm shows a distinct knee band, which is closely related to the characteristic of microporous carbons with capillary condensation in micropores. In order to present the causes of the differences in surface properties and $S_{BET}$ after the samples were treated with hydrochloric acid, pore structure and surface morphology are investigated by adsorption analysis. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicate that activated carbons show better performance for metallic potassium and potassium salts by pre-treatment with hydrochloric acid. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) pictures of potassium/activated carbon particles provide information about the homogeneous distribution of metal or metal complex on the surface. For the chemical composition microanalysis for potassium treatment of the activated carbon pre-treated with hydrochloric acid, samples were analyzed by energy disperse X-ray (EDX). Finally, the type and quality of oxygen groups are determined from the method proposed by Boehm. A positive influence of the acidic groups on the carbon surface by acid treatment is also demonstrated by an increase in the contents of potassium salts with increasing of acidic groups calculated from Boehm titration.
Wool fabrics were treated with low temperature oxygen plasma and/or protease, and examined for their mechanical and dyeing properties. By plasma-treatment the strength of wool fabric increased and higher rate of weight loss for protease treatment was obtained. When dyed by levelling type acid dye equilibrium dye uptake appeared same, but rate of dyeing increased by the plasma treatment, while, with milling type acid dye, both of them increased greatly in the order of untreatedplasma/protease-treated. It was assumed from the above results that plasma affects the surface of fiber, and enzyme attacks mainly the inner part of fiber. This was confirmed again by scanning electron microscope.
In this study, acid cellulase was used to treat denim fabrics by varying pH, temperature, enzyme concentration, treatment time and non-ionic surfactant (Triton X-100) concentration. Treatment condition was controlled based on the weight loss. The characteristics of enzyme-treated fabrics were measured in terms of tearing strength, stiffness, and color difference. The optimum conditions for cellulase treatment of denim fabric were pH 5.0, $50^{\circ}C$, 3% (o.w.f.), 90minutes. The weight loss did not change significantly with the addition of a non-ionic surfactant, but it improved when more non-ionic surfactant were used. The tearing strength of enzyme-treated denim fabrics did not deteriorate. The stiffness of the treated fabrics improved with the enzymatic treatment with and without the non-ionic surfactant. The difference in color of fabrics treated with enzyme increased.
The antioxidant potential of mistletoe (Viscum album L. var. coloratum Ohwi; VAL) extract in uncooked pork patties was evaluated. Three concentrations of VAL extract (0.1 [T1], 0.5% [T2] and 1.0% [T3]) along with 0.02% ascorbic acid as a positive control (V) were added to ground pork and pork patties were prepared. Incorporation of VAL extract decreased (p<0.05) the pH of the pork patties throughout the storage time and reduced (p<0.01) the thiobarbituric acid reactive substance values after day 14 of storage. Total plate counts of the VAL extract-treated samples and V-treated samples were also significantly lower (p<0.01) than that of the control (C) throughout the storage period. In addition, odor scores of the VAL extract-treated patties were lower than those of the C- or V-treated samples on 3rd day of the storage period. These results demonstrated that the VAL extract acts as a natural antioxidant in uncooked pork products.
Three kinds of organic matter such as glucose, oxalic acid, and ethanol were added to the media(N-free or $NO_{3}$-riched) and their effects on the nitrogen fixation of Nostoc pruniforme were measured by manometric technique through the experiments in vivo. 1) The organic matters used in this experiments showed effective results as a role of substrate for the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen. 2) In the nitrogen-free medium treated with the both of flucose nad ethanol, the highest nitrogen uptakes were detected in the treated of low concentrations (glucose ; 0.1%, 0.5%, ethanol : 0.1%, 0.5%). On the contrary, the highest nitrogen uptakes in $NO_{3}$-riched medium were measured at the treated of high concentrations (glucose ; 2%, 1%, ethanol ; 1.5%, 1.0%). 3) The highest nitrogen uptakes in N-free medium treated with oxalic acid were measured at the concentration of 2% and 1%, respectively. In the medium of $NO_{3}$-riched, the nitrogen uptakes were in the opposite directions.
The pure-separation of calcium chloride-treated fibroin hydrolysates could be carried out using gel filtration chromatography. Also, the effect of its enzymatic hydrolysis was investigated in order to find out the enhancement of their functionality. The average molecular weight(Mw), solubility and free amino acid compositions of three hydrolysates samples (calcium chloride, calcium chloride-flavourzyme and calcium chloride-thermoase)were measured to compare their characteristics. The molecular weight of calcium chloride hydrolysate was about Mw 46,800 and it can be reduced to Mw 12,500 and 1,070 upon the enzymatic hydrolysis by flavourzyme and thermoase, repectively. A solubility of calcium chloride-treated samples shows about 60% while calcium chloride/enzyme-treated samples are perfectly soluble (100% solubility). The total amino acid composition of calcium chloride enzymatic hydrolysates are much higher than that of calcium chloride hydrolysate.
This study was performed to test the combustive properties of Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) specimens treated with piperazinomethyl-bis-phosphonic acid (PIPEABP), methylpiperazinomethyl-bis-phosphonic acid (MPIPEABP), and N,N-dimethylethylenediaminomethyl-bis-phosphonic acid (MDEDAP). MDF Plates were painted in three times with 15 wt% solution of the alkylenediaminoalkyl-bis-phosphonic acids at the room temperature, respectively. After drying specimen treated with chemicals, combustive properties were examined by the cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). It was indicated that the specimens treated with chemicals showed the later time to peak mass loss rate ($TMLR_{peak}$) = (340475) s than that of virgin plate by reducing the burning rate. In adition, the specimens treated with chemicals showed the higher $CO_{mean}$ production (0.0883~0.0963) kg/kg than that of virgin plate. Especially, the specimens treated with chemicals showed the higher mean smoke extinction area ($SEA_{mean}$) ($5m^2/kg{\sim}21.5m^2/kg$) than that of virgin plate. Thus, It is supposed that the combustion-retardation properties were improved by the partial due to the treated alkylenediaminoalkyl-bis-phosphonic acids in the virgin MDF Plate. However, It gave a negative effect on smoke reduction.
This study was performed to test the combustive properties of Pinus rigida plates treated with bis-(dimethylaminomethyl) phosphinic acid (DMDAP), bis-(diethylaminomethyl) phosphinic acid (DEDAP), and bis-(dibuthylaminomethyl) phosphinic acid (DBDAP). Pinus rigida specimens were painted in three times with 15 wt% bis-(dialkylaminoalkyl) phosphinic acid solutions at the room temperature. After drying specimen treated with chemicals, combustive properties were examined by the cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). It is supposed that the combustion-retardation properties were improved by the partial due to the treated bis-(dialkylaminoalkyl) phosphinic acids in the virgin Pinus rigida. Especially, the specimens treated with chemicals showed both the lower total smoke release rate (TSRR) ($16.94{\sim}18.92m^2/m^2$) and lower $CO_{2mean}$ production (1.98~2.09 kg/kg) than those of virgin plate. However the specimens treated with chemicals showed both the higher peak mass loss rate (PMLR) (0.1250~0.1297 g/s) and higher 1st-smoke production rate (SPR) (0.0153~0.0167 g/s) than those of virgin plate. Compared with virgin Pinus rigida plate, the specimens treated with the bis-dialkylamimoalkyl phosphinic acids showed partially low combustive properties.
