Their home room teachers completed scores of the mathematics achievement test of their students. Data were analyzed by F-test, t-test, correlation and step wise multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows. First, there were statistically significant differences in coping behavior to mathematics depending on grade, mathematics achievement and level of mathematics anxiety except for sex. • The purpose of the present study was to examine mechanisms by which the characteristics of child temperament influences academic achievement in late childhood. It was hypothesized that the effects of child temperament on achievement would be mediated by assertive behavior on the part of children and maternal parenting behavior. Data for this study came from self-report questionnaires completed by 657 elementary school children (343 boys, 314 girls). The results of structural equation modeling demonstrated that child temperament affected academic achievement through both assertive behavior and maternal parenting behavior; this was evidenced across the entire sample. Child temperament (approach-withdrawal, mood quality, persistence) also had a number of positive effects on assertive behavior (directiveness, social assertiveness, defense of rights and interests) and maternal parental behavior (warmth-acceptance, guidance). These results were found to be the case for both boys and girls. The results of this study further revealed that maternal parenting behavior mediated the relationship between child temperament and achievement for boys, whereas assertive behavior played the same role for girls. These findings suggest the need for different approaches in developing programs to improve levels of academic achievement which give due consideration to child temperament and social behavior as well as parenting, based on child gender.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of socio-demographic variables on time management and to investigate the effects of time management on self-efficacy and academic achievement in college students. The data were collected from 382 college students through questionnaire surveys and analyzed using frequency, percentile, and regression analysis with the SPSS program. College students' time management behavior was influenced by the social status of their families and by their participation in time management education. There were differences in variables affecting time management according to its sub-areas (planning, regular habits, and goal-oriented behavior). Planning was influenced by the students' majors and by their participation in time management education. Regular habits were influenced by the students' genders and their families' social status. No variables affected goal-oriented behavior. Time management (especially planning and goal-oriented behavior) and gender had strong effects on self-efficacy, and male students showed more self-efficacious behavior than their female counterparts. Time management (especially planning and regular habits) and gender had strong effects on academic achievement, and female students received higher academic grades than their male counterparts. Based on these results, time management was confirmed as an influential element in self-efficacy and academic achievement. Planning and goal-oriented behavior particularly influenced self-efficacy, and planning and regular habits particularly influenced academic achievement.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relation of middle school students' stress in relation to certain variables, those of grade, gender, academic achievement, coping behavior and self-concept. The subjects were 574 students selected from 4 middle schools in the Incheon area. The instruments included a stress index, coping behavior questionnaire and self-concept inventory. The statistics used from this data were t-test, one-way ANOVA (Scheff test), correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. This study showed that middle school students' stress was influenced significantly by the grade, gender and achievement in school. Also, coping behavior and self-concept were influenced significantly by the grade, gender, and achievement in school. Correlation analysis indicated that student's stress and certain coping behavior were postively correlated, especially avoidance coping behavior indicated a higher correlation to students' stress than active coping behavior. The relationship between stress and self-concept indicated a negative high correlation. It was also found that avoidance coping behavior, family self-concept, general self-concept, school and class self-concept, grade and academic achievement were significant predictors of middle school students' stress.

  • In this study, a survey was carried out on 300 students in Korea Culinary Arts Science High School located in Gyeonggi-do from August 1 to August 30, 2011 to figure out how the control of high school students' eating behavior affects the change of their psychological achievement. Analysis showed that attitude toward eating behavior, and perceived behavior that recognize this and act, as eating habits for control of their eating behavior, are the most control factors of eating behavior. It says that the right perception of customary attitude and the correction of habits according to the exposure and performance of repetitive eating behaviors are important. Consequently, an ordinarily regular norm as a social norm, or a rule around it won't act as big positive factors.

  • Hasteful behavior means choosing the best suited methods while behaving fast and quickly. We can't conclude whether hasteful behavior is totally bad or good. Striving for achievement of own certain purpose reflects achievement motivation or need for achievement. However, this striving also has potentiality of missing confirmation, therefore the potentiality may cause errors. The aim of this study is to investigate the psychological structure and characteristic of the hasteful behavior. One hundred ninety-one students conducted Hasteful Behavior Questionnaire, Achievement Motivation Measuring Scale, and NEO Personality Inventory. We analyzed data of 188 respondents, because of missing value. The result of factor analysis showed that hasteful behavior consisted of 5 factors- 「Uncomfortableness」, 「Time Pressure」, 「Isolation」, 「Boring Condition」, and 「Expecting Rewards」. According to correlations among the hasteful behavior factors and the relationship between hasteful behavior and achievement motivation, we found that hasteful behavior had two aspects, one was "Missing Confirmation(MC)" and the other was "Need for Achievement(NA)". We also found that 「Time Pressure」 was related to the both aspects. MC had a positive relation to Neuroticism, whereas MC correlated negatively with Conscientiousness. On the other hand, NA had a positive relationship with Extraversion and Achievement Striving.
