Post-earthquake crisis management is a key capability for a country to be able to recover after a major seismic event. Instrumental seismic data transmitted and processed in a very short time can contribute to better management of the emergency and can give insights on the earthquake's impact on a specific area. Romania is a country with a high seismic hazard, mostly due to the Vrancea intermediate-depth earthquakes. The elastic acceleration response spectrum of a seismic motion provides important information on the level of maximum acceleration the buildings were subjected to. Based on new data analysis and knowledge advancements, the acceleration elastic response spectrum for horizontal ground components recommended by the Romanian seismic codes has been evolving over the last six decades. This study aims to propose a framework for post-earthquake warning based on code spectrum exceedances. A comprehensive background analysis was undertaken using strong motion data from previous earthquakes corroborated with observational damage, to prove the method's applicability. Moreover, a case-study for two densely populated Romanian cities (Focsani and Bucharest) is presented, using data from a $5.5M_W$ earthquake (October 28, 2018) and considering the evolution of the three generations of code-based spectral levels for the two cities. Data recorded in free-field and in buildings were analyzed and has confirmed that no structural damage occurred within the two cities. For future strong seismic events, this tool can provide useful information on the effect of the earthquake on structures in the most exposed areas.

Vehicle vibration was introduced in the time and frequency domains using fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis. In particular, a vibration mode analysis and characteristics of the frequency response function (FRF) in a sport utility vehicle (SUV) passing over a bump barrier at different speeds was performed systematically. The response behavior of the theoretical acceleration was obtained using a numerical method applied to the forced vibration model. The amplitude and frequency of the external force on the vehicle cause various power spectra with individual intrinsic system frequencies. In this regard, several modes of power spectra were acquired from the spectra and are discussed in this paper. The proposed technique can be used for monitoring the acceleration in a vehicle passing over a bump barrier. To acquire acceleration signals, various experimental runs were performed using the SUV. These acceleration signals were then used to acquire the FRF and to conduct mode analysis. The vehicle characteristics according to the vehicle condition were analyzed using FRF. In addition, the vehicle structural system and bump passing frequencies were discriminated based on their power spectra and other FRF spectra.
The objective of the study is to evaluate the feasibility of the dynamic behavior of slope through both 1 g shaking table test and numerical analysis. Accelerometers were installed in the slope model with different types of seismic waves. The numerical analysis (ABAQUS and DEEPSOIL) was used to simulate 1 g shaking table test at infinite boundary. Similar Acceleration-time history, Spectral acceleration (SA) and Spectral acceleration amplification factor (Fa) were obtained, which verified the feasibility of modeling using ABAQUS and DEEPSOIL under the same size. The influence of the size (1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 times larger than that used in the 1 g shaking table test) of the model used in the numerical analysis were extensively investigated. According to the similitude law, ABAQUS was used to analyze the dynamic behavior of large-scale slope model. The 5% Damping Spectral acceleration (SA) and Spectral acceleration amplification factor (Fa) at the same proportional positions were compared. Based on the comparison of numerical analyses and 1 g shaking table tests, it was found that the 1 g shaking table test result can be utilized to predict the dynamic behavior of the real scale slope through numerical analysis.

Worker's awkward postures and unreasonable physical load can be corrected by monitoring construction activities, thereby increasing the safety and productivity of construction workers and projects. However, manual identification is time-consuming and contains high human variance. In this regard, an automated activity recognition system based on inertial measurement unit can help in rapidly and precisely collecting motion data. With the acceleration data, the machine learning algorithm will be used to train classifiers for automatically categorizing activities. However, input acceleration data are extracted either from designed experiments or simple construction work in previous studies. Thus, collected data series are discontinuous and activity categories are insufficient for real construction circumstances. This study aims to collect acceleration data during long-term continuous work in a construction project and validate the feasibility of activity recognition algorithm with the continuous motion data. The data collection covers two different workers performing formwork at the same site. An accelerator, as well as portable camera, is attached to the worker during the entire working session for simultaneously recording motion data and working activity. The supervised machine learning-based models are trained to classify activity in hierarchical levels, which reaches a 96.9% testing accuracy of recognizing rest and work and 85.6% testing accuracy of identifying stationary, traveling, and rebar installation actions.
In this study, during the injection molding process, a device was manufactured and evaluated that calculates a cooling time by measuring a vibration signal generated from a mold using an acceleration. The last two parts, one of which has a large magnitude change in the measured vibration signal of a mold, were divided into a cooling start section (paking end section) and a mold opening section, and the time difference at the relevant points was calculated as the cooling time. The cooling time was monitored on a 5-inch light guide plate mold by applying the method. The manufactured device was attached to a fixed base of mold to measure the cooling time, and data was obtained remotely using Bluetooth technology. Then, the measured cooling time was compared with the cooling time set in the injection molding machine to evaluate the accuracy. As a result of the experiment, the cooling times measured by the devices were 15.675±0.024 sec, 20.637±0.014 sec and 25.623±0.079 sec of each conditions. Also, the measurement results were shown with errors of 0.655±0.044 sec, 0.637±0.014 sec, and 0.662±0.013 sec, respectively.
To anlyze the diffuse axonal injury of the human brain, 3-D finite element models of the adult, two and three years child were developed. Triangular type acceleration which had its maximum value 200g was applied to investigate the effects of acceleration direction and duration time. The pattern of high shear stress generated at the brain stem, pones and midbrain was similar to the pattern of DAI seen in the clinical observation, especially high maximum shear stress was detected in the brain stem of the six year old child model under flexional acceleration. As the duration of acceleration increased generated pressure and maximum shear stress also increased. For the children's model relatively small pressure was generated regardless of the acceleration direction and continued much longer compared with adult's model. From this analysis maximum shear stress was revealed more proper indicator to predict DAI compared to HIC in case of angular acceleration loading.

This article presents the statistical characteristics of elastic floor acceleration spectra that represent the peak response demand of non-structural components attached to a nonlinear supporting frame. For this purpose, a set of stiff and flexible general moment resisting frames with periods of 0.3-3.6 sec. are analyzed using forty-nine near-field strong ground motion records. Peak accelerations are derived for each single degree of freedom non-structural component, supported by the above mentioned frames, through a direct-integration time-history analysis. These accelerations are obtained by Floor Acceleration Response Spectrum (FARS) method. They are statistically analyzed in the next step to achieve a better understanding of their height-wise distributions. The factors that affect FARS values are found in the relevant state of the art. Here, they are summarized to evaluate the amplification and/or reduction of FARS values especially when the supporting structures undergo inelastic behavior. The properties of FARS values are studied in three regions: long-period, fundamental-period and short-period. Maximum elastic acceleration response of non-structural component, mounted on inelastic frames, depends on the following factors: inelasticity intensity and modal periods of supporting structure; natural period, damping ratio and location of non-structural component. The FARS values, corresponded to the modal periods of supporting structure, are strongly reduced beyond elastic domain. However, they could be amplified in the transferring period domain between the mentioned modal periods. In the next step, the amplification and/or reduction of FARS values, caused by inelastic behavior of supporting structure, are calculated. A parameter called the response acceleration reduction factor ($R_{acc}$), has been previously used for far-field earthquakes. The feasibility of extending this parameter for near-field motions is focused here, suggested repeatedly in the relevant sources. The nonlinearity of supporting structure is included in ($R_{acc}$) for better estimation of maximum non-structural component absolute acceleration demand, which is ordinarily neglected in the seismic design provisions.

Recently, as the importance of Economical Driving has been gradually growing up, the needs for research on automatic analysis of driving patterns that will ultimately provide drivers the methods for Economical Driving have been increasingly risen. Based on this purpose, we have executed two things in this paper. First, we have collected overall driving information such as date, distance, driving time, speed, idle time, sudden acceleration/deceleration count, and the amount of fuel consumption. Second, we have analyzed the influences of driving patterns on economical driving by employing the data mining techniques. These results can be applied in preventing bad driving patterns which will have consequently bad effects on Economical Driving in two aspects: by presenting some information on the terminal of the vehicles such as idle time, over-speed time, sudden acceleration/deceleration count continuously and by providing the drivers with alert information when the idle time ratio and the over-speed time ratio are excessive.
Most domestic and international standards on the forming limit diagram (FLD) including ISO 12004-2, use a 'position-dependent method,' which determines the forming limit from a strain distribution measured on the specimen after necking or fracture. However, the position-dependent method has inherent problems such as the incidence of asymmetry of a strain distribution, the estimation of missing data near fracture, the termination time of test, and the deformation due to the new stress equilibrium after a fracture, which is blamed for causing sometimes a significant lab-to-lab variation. The 'time-dependent method,' which is anticipated to be a new international standard for evaluating the forming limit, is expected to greatly improve these intrinsic disadvantages of the position-dependent method. It is because the time-dependent method makes it possible to identify and accurately determine the forming limit, just before the necking point from the strain data as continuously measured in a short time interval. In this study, we propose a new time-dependent method based on a Gaussian fitting of strain acceleration with the introduction of 'normalized correlation coefficient.' It has been shown in this study that this method can determine the forming limit very stably and gives a higher value, which is in comparison with the results of the previously studied position-dependent and time-dependent methods.
This study was performed to develop accelerated life test methods for agricultural tractor transmission receiving variable load. To acquire parameters for calculation of accelerated life test, endurance tests were performed under different torque conditions. Test results showed that the shape factor of Weibull distribution was 1.5 and fatigue damage exponent was 5.4. The calculated test time was 5,877 hours under the conditions of average life (MTBF) 3,000 hours and 90% reliability for one test sample. According to the linear cumulative damage rule, test time could be reduced using increased test load. Test time could be reduced by 252 hours when 1.2 times of the rated load compared with 0.67 times of the rated equivalent load calculated by load spectrum of the agricultural tractor. Calculated acceleration coefficient was 23.3.
