Comparative Toxicity of Abmectin to the Spider Mites, Tetranychus urticae Koch and Teranychus Kanzawai Kishida (Acarina; Tetranychidae) and the Predatory Mite, Amblyseius womersleyi Schicha (Acarina: Phytoseiidae) (점박이응애(Tetranychus urticae), 간자와응애(Tetranychus Kanzawai)와 긴털이리응애(Amblyseius womersleyi)에 대한 Abamectin의 독성 비교)

  • The comparative toxicity of abamectin to the predatory mite, Amblyseius womersleyi Schicha and the spider mites, Tetranychus urticae Koch and T. kanzawai Kishida was evaluated by leaf disc method. Abamectin was much less toxic to A. womersleyi than to the spider mites. Although survival rate of adult females of A. womersleyi tended to decrease with increasing abamectin concentration, 8-78% of predators remained alive at concentrations of 0.38-6 ppm. Likewise, reproduction was significantly reduced with increasing abamectin concentration. Abamectin neither affect the hatch of A. womersleyi eggs nor the development of surviving immature predators. Survival of immature predators decreased with increasing abamectin concentration. However, 42-90% of immature predators reached adulthood at 0.38-3 ppm. Adult female predators survived on a diet of spider mites intoxicated with abamectin, although their fecundity and the sex-ratio of the progeny were significantly affected. Abamectin at selective sublethal concentrations (0.38-0.75 ppm) could he of value in adjusting predatorlprey ratios in integrated management of T. urticae and T. kanzawai.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the composition of soil microarthropods in pasture at the Unbong Area, to fulfil this purpose, samples were taken from National livestock research institute Namwon branch from 24. June, 1998 to 18. Setember. The results of this study were as follow. Collembola was hight in cattle and goat pasture, and Acarina was hight in wild and gathering pasture. Oribated mites were also hight in wild and gathering pasture more than cattle and goat pasture. Oribatid mites as a vectors of cestodes were identified 7 species of Carabodes peniculatus, Carabodes sp., Scheloribates laevigatus, Scheloribates latipes, Scheloribates rigidisetosus, Galumna cuneata and Galumna sp. The diversity indices showed hight in wild and gathering pasture. According to the MGP analysis I was type GP, and analysis II was type P.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between soil mites(Acarina:Cryptostigmata) and vegetation in sampled area. From July 1984 to June 1985, samples were taken monthly from coniferous forests; a pinenut (Pinus koraiensis S. et Z.) forest (site C-1), a whitepine(Pinus strobus L.) forest (site C-2), a needle fir tree(Abies holophyla Max.) forest (site C-3), and three broad-leaved forests; site B-1, B-2, and B-3 in Cholanamdo province, southerm part of Korea. Vascular plants of 152 species belonging to 115 genera (53 families) were identified. The flora in the coniferous forests were more diverse than in the broad-leaved forest. Similarity coefficient to the flora was shown highly between the neighbouring sites. The oribatid species in the coniferous forests were more diverse than those in the broadleaved forests. The similarity index suggested that oribatid mites in those surveying sites could be divided into "coniferous forest type" and "broad-leaved forest type".d forest type".uot;.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the population density and biomass of soil microarthropods in the forests with different flora. soil microarthropods of 29,475 individuals were identified into 6 different classes, and 18 different orders. Acarina were the most numerous with abundance of 74.8% followed by 17.9% of Collembola, comprising 92.7% of arthropod fauna. Similar dominance of the two groups was found also in biomass although the level reaching no more than 63.9%. The A/C ratio in the broad-leaved forests are higher than that in the coniferous forests.

  • For the development of the specific pathogen free (SPF) or germ free laboratory animals, a parasitological approach was applied to the preliminarily selected laboratory albino mice (Mus musculus alba) in order to observe the ectoparasites on the hair of the host animal. The mites collected from the laboratory albino mice were identified as Myocoptes musculinus and classified into the Family Listrophoridae, Suborder Sarcoptiformes, Order Acarina. The overall infection rate of the mites was revealed as high as 73.2% (52 out of 71 heads) and the development process from the eggs to larvae was observed for the understanding of the basic ecological properties.

  • Six species of false spider mites were collected and ciassifled in South Korea. Among them, a taxonomic description was carried out on the following four species new to Korea: 1. Aegyptobia nothus Pritchard and Baker, 2. Pentomerismus taxi (Hailer), 3. P. oregonensis McGregor, 4. Brevipalpus lewisi McGregor. And also esterase and alkaline phosphatase patterns obtained by polyacrylamide slab gel electrophoresis were compared on some spades. Esterase rymogram showed difference among species in band number and mobility.
